Could be Anasazi, Mogrow. If it is, it is believed that they were very active in region approx 800-1200 years ago

The term Anasazi simply means 'ancient ones' in Navajo. Depending on where you are in the desert southwest such drawings- and points, dwellings and other artifacts- could be from any of dozens of identified tribes. I've been out there to see the drawings and routes a few museums. Fascinating stuff! Lessons learned;

Building a sustainable culture is the only way to have a cultural memory as long as the Navajo.
Sustainability can be effectively managed anywhere- even in a desert!
Creative use of local materials makes their gardening techniques look like the advanced civilization! Want proof? Google 'lithic mulching techniques'. Growing food with rocks. Seriously.

Interesting stuff guys. Reminds me of growing up. My family owned 640 acres in North East Kansas and there were rumors of an Indian burial ground on the property. We never found any sign of that however you could find flint arrow and spear heads most any time you went looking down by the creek. Had a great collection but some how over the years they have disappeared. Sure wish that property was still in the family. Great bird hunting, fishing and all kinds of things a person could get lost in.

Just back from 3 day 2 nite guided fly fishing trip thru the Black Canyon of the Gunnison river.
One lucky bastard.
At the last minute some guy had a detached retna in his eye and had to cancel.
The guide was waiting on river so owner got me down and off I went.
Had my own personal guide and boat.
2 other boats with2 fisherman and 1 guide.
Mushrooms all day everyday.
Spectacular time. Peak of stone fly hatch. millions of bugs swarming everywhere.
1st day ok, kinda slow,, 2nd day 15 or so same today.
Not a ton of fish but this trip thru that canyon is beyond amazing.
Guides were awesome full service, got them baked and tipped them well.
Best of all free.....

That sounds like three days in paradise. Awesome. So is there a secret 'Farmer' discount, if we 'tip' them well?

I wish, it was real nice for him to get me on this trip.
Guide would have hated to be left without a client, he is their head guide, the leader of the trip, so he would have had nobody in his raft, no tip.
I had no idea how much to tip, gave him $300.00 and a nice ounce of nuggies and some shrooms, seemed way happy....
What do you think Pute? Hope I did him right.
River is low making it real tight in spots. raft got hung up on rocks several times.
So very awesome was drifting and casting rapid fire into deep dark pools and I noticed a flow between two rocks, commented watch this, flipped a perfect back cast and fat brown breached 1 foot out of water took off went deep real nice 22 incher.
A must for the bucket list........
Guide ate a stone fly, tried one myself, tasted just like the mushrooms I was eating.
Had the group laughing asses off.
Told them drinking stories, brought a gallon of goat milk and Mike the orthopedic surgeon loved it and could not believe how good it was and that I brought it along.
All very rich, no doubt but they were all way cool, really appreciated everything, loved the experience not snobby or stuck up at all...

Yup, $600 a night per person is pretty much the going rate. You lucked out! Thinking they did to. Gonna have stories to tell their grand children about the famed CHICKEN MAN. Glad you had a good time. Is the water clearing? Gonna hit the Colorado as the flow is dropping and water clearing. Stone fly hatch is a shadow of what it used to be but hoping the caddis are starting to pop. Fishing season is officially on and I am going to get my share.

Hoping all farmers take the time to get outside and enjoy this wonderful area we have the privilege to live in.

Floating the North Platte at Alcova only costs $400 per boat, $100 tip plus the nuggetry. 2 people per boat, $75 for two twins beds at the hotel, and you're under $450 with gas to get there and back. Plus the guide does the hard work of rowing and getting on the fish, and they'll back row stretches of good water. We floated a section 5 times last year, getting double hookups all five times. The only negative is that the guides are hesitant to let clients touch and hold fish, because most people are idiots.

Keep in mind local guy that the rates provided are day floats only. C-Man was on an overnighter. Cost is a lot more. Guides usually provide dinner, shelter and breakfast the next morning. Also are responsible for keeping you entertained during the evening. In this case however I am sure that C-Man not only provided the entertainment but told most of the stories as well.

Do you know much about Saratoga? Was thinking about hitting that area once runoff drops the water clears and the dry flies are hatching. Never fished Grey's Reef. Nice looking fish. Hate the Miracle Mile, to much moss. Haven't been there in years though.

Only a few outfitters are permitted, bet it costs a ton of dough to get permit for black canyon. Limited amount of commercial rafts allowed, strict rules, good rules, no fires, must pack out your Cleveland steamers and butt wipe and trash pee in river, no more than 3 nites per trip,
Also costs to get raft and provisions to river, guide pay, boat cost, insurance, food, it all adds up.
The river has more fish per mile than any other river in state.
Ive travled the world, been to the top of the great pyramid in Eqypt this is just as amazing if not more so.
Incredable steep walls 500 feet straight up. Constantly overwhelmed by the sheer beauty

Sunday night owner calls, says could be a cancellation, will know by 10am Monday. Go fishing will call you.
Got on by 6am up river 3 miles and he called and said its on get down here asap. I rowed my ass off, he drove to drop off hiked down to river and there was my guide.

Sounds like quite the trip, CM. When's the next outing?

Thought about trying to set up a campout.....have access to a private campground near Leadville with 2 stocked lakes and a stream below 'em with beaver ponds (Don't fish so dunno what the fishin is like in the creek)....but after hearing about this luxury/high-dollar foray into Fishdom.....it kinda seems like such an offering would be seriously slummin' it in comparison!

Anyone need a refill on their caviar or Dom? :D

Will work on one.
Right now the river is starting to moss up. The fish hunker down and eat worms and other bugs from that moss and fishing slows.
Got a wedding in Cali this month, busy, will get some time in on river glad I hit it when it was on fire....
