I am down for the camping trip!

Speaking of camping, I am going this weekend... I am looking for a spot closeish to Denver (1-2hr drive) that is secluded enough so that there won't be any other campers to bother us (or our free range dogs) but I also want some water so I can fish a bit...

Anyone know of any good spots at all? I was thinking Rainbow Lakes up behind Nederland but haven't been there before... Most of my camping has been up in the Poudre Canyon or Redfeather Lakes but I am looking for something new...

Go check out the lakes I just mentioned. Tiago Lake would be the better of the two and your dogs shouldn't have a problem. It also has the biggest fish in it.
Take hwy 14 out of Ft Collins to Walden. Stay on 14 to the town of Hebron, from there turn west (r) on county road 24 and go approximately 10 miles to Grizzly Creek camp ground. From there turn N on Forrest road 615 and continue on for about 2 miles. Tiago is the first of the two lakes and has a more private campground. If you are interested pm me and I will tell you how to catch the bigger fish that are in there.

If anybody is interested I will be fishing the Colorado River just below Parshall on Saturday afternoon. There is a caddis hatch that starts to come off in late morning and last until about 2 or so. It will start up again in the evening. If you want to meet me there we can meet at the Parshall Inn about 10:30 and I will take you to the river from there.

This is a catch and release area only and a fly rod is needed. Since it is a weekend it will probably be a little crowded but with a little patience we will be able to work our way into some of the better runs.

i hoard my spots like i do my elite cuts  ;)

I used to but there is a lot of places that I will never go to again. I know some great high mountain lakes you can only reach by horse or back pack. To old to carry a 60 pound pack five miles any more. I also used to 4wd into a lot of places, won't beat my truck up like that anymore.

Teal and Tiago lakes used to be my most secret spots. Don't care anymore. Great family get a way, worth taking a look.

FINALLY get to spend a full day on river. Bought a new used top of the line 11 ft pontoon boat, stones are flying, will be havin a blast....

Looking forward to using my pontoon boat. Got it specifically to fish the gunny with you. It's been sitting in my garage for months now just waiting for me to pull my last run of plants. Fishing here is going to be on the decline shortly due to low flows and high temps. Had a great time on the upper Colorado last weekend, caught lots of fish but the flow is dropping daily and the water temp had climbed to 59 degrees before noon. There won't be anything but tail water and lake fishing soon. I get bored on lakes so it's big rivers for the rest of the summer.

Looks like your knee is in good enough shape to get out, glad to here that. I thought you might be done for a while but you are a tough old geezer and a little acl isn't going to keep you down.

Have four plants that need to finish and it's off for longer trips. Going to hit the Gunnison and try to work in the Big Horn and the San Juan yet this summer and fall. And back into the basement garden for the winter. Life is good as long as we can keep the state from burning up.

Pretty much decided to curb my fishing this season. Not going to kill some poor trout to get my fix. These low oxygen levels are tough already and its only gonna get worse.

Yea, the Colorado was already showing signs of stress. Flow is only 180 cfs, last year at this time she was running at 6,000. Don't quit though. Just find colder water. Go higher, do tail waters or fish big water.

Ill need to bring my .45 1911 if i hit the tailwaters. Fuckin put a hole in somebody at those spots. Had a guy one time come right past me and practically trample my gear. Then the asshole had the balls to start drifting flies at the bottom of my run. A few words and glares later and he was high tailin it outta there. Should have bashed his head on a rock in a back eddy.
Im not a big water guy and i dont have time for any big excursions. The lakes are too warm already and the fish are deep. Thankfully im heading to hunt for some tarpon but besides that im doneski for the season. Yampa is already talking about shutting down for rec use and its flippin june!

Cannarado, you own one of the best drift boats money can buy and you are just going to keep it in the garage??!! You have been fishing the dream stream and the San Juan to much. People are courteous on the Big Horn and c-man says the Gunnison is free of crowds during the week. You are hurting my eyes:confused:

See Cannarado life sucks and I wouldn't fish in this shitty state either. ha ha Just wait, I WILL talk you into it. Especially with the hash at the end. Probably won't know how to get home.

drift boat would be awesome for the lower 12 mile strech...fun overniter, never too much pressure or people on the gunnie where i go. Had Hot tubsoak Pretty stiff and tired, 815 time for bed...still all swrilly

Good night c-man, hope you pass out (sleep) well. Got to finish this last run and we will for sure do the over night trip. Don't worry Cannarado will be back from those warm water pussies and will be ready for some hopper fishing with his 1wt. You in the mean time get that leg healed enough for an over night trip.

I'm sold. When are we going?

But first, can you do us Colorado residents a favor and STOP TELLING EVERYBODY HOW NICE IT IS HERE?! Damn, the state's population is growing fast enough already! o_O

Just remember, all you coasties out there thinkin' of a change of venue; we have tornadoes, floods, blizzards, hurricane force winds, single digit humidity... and oh yeah- forest fires. So stay home. :p Colorado is not as nice as he says it is. Reeeeaaaallllly.....

You are right ty, sucks here don't come. The whole state is on fire. Going to be hot today and cold tonight. Go to kansas instead. lol

I am going to hit the Gunnison in late July or early August. I have to finish my last run and get the ladies dried and cured before I can leave for more than a couple of days. This will be a blast however you will need some type of flotation device. Canoe, belly boat, pontoon or drift boat. C-Man knows the area and should be able to tell more on what, when and where.
