Getting the buffer built back this morning and surprised to see a noticeable change in color coming in on these blossoms and I am hoping the drop off in nutrients didn't get started too soon. Also seeing some typical late weeks fade in some of the larger fan leaves, especially the ones I noticed a slight P or K deficiency starting to manifest. Looking like the beginning of a nice fade, just hope the timing is not off by too much....ppms sitting about 570 atm.

These blossoms are already starting to look amazing and stoked to see how she ripens up.

Hey Fam and good morning-

Thanks to @steamroller for the hat tip over at the POTM thread!

Cruising along here, pretty much on autopilot after the last res change. She is still eating and drinking, although she did seem to slow down after the res change the other day. Does a res change normally shock the plant some? I would think it would and she definitely stopped drinking as much for a day or two afterward but now seems to be back to normal.

The one thing I am a bit concerned about is finishing this gal properly to get the best out of the grow. Near as I can tell, 8 weeks since flower onset will be right around the 30th of Jan, so right about 2 1/2 weeks left to go by that guestimate, which will be 10 weeks since 12/12 flip. Does anyone think she is turning too soon? Lots of purple coming in and everyday the signs of ripening are getting more apparent. Also, I wonder about amending the res any more before I'm done here. With all the problems with my first hydro grow, I learned a lot, but this time I am going start to finish with GH and really not sure how to finish things out. I know I want a gradual decrease in nutes going in to the last weeks, which is what seems to be happening right now. When I amended the res the last time, i had the ppms sitting around 550=600, today they have dropped to about 450.

So my question is, do I amend the res a time or two before chop, or let her ride those numbers downward to the finish line?

My definition of "tiny" and yours are not the same, lol, BUT that is changing. Have you seen the new Mendel grow I am working on? I think I have improved a lot on this grow in this area and actually taking many branches now and trying to apply what I have learned from you. It's just so different from soil and I have a hard head I guess, lol. I think there will be a vast improvement on this next one, would love to hear your opinion of my perceived progress.

That low temp for the res is only because I had just changed out the res and the water in my holding tank is cooler. It quickly warmed up afterward and is now sitting at 68F.

As far as the finish, I am in no hurry, I have plenty of medicine so that is not motivating an early harvest. I think you are right, there is a tiny bit of new growth, not much, hoping she doesn't start to foxtail, one flower looks as though she might do that. So yea, more weed is good. Jeff says 9 weeks on this strain and I think Max confirms that. Going from flower onset I am entering week 6 so we're looking at the first week of Feb or thereabouts for harvest. That is my guestimate anyway but that could change as she ripens.

When you say back off the light a tad, do you mean dial back the intensity? ATM, that is the only control I have with the light. I also realized it might not be a good idea to switch the light on her at this point, and also, that new light won't even fit in this tent so that was a duh moment I had when I thought I could finish this plant with the new light. Night temps have been 67F, in the day getting in the upper 70's and sometimes low 80's. I don't want to cool it too much because of the other tent that is right next to it in veg. That is about the best I can do at this time.

Looking at trich's, she is obviously not even close. I do see the potential for purple in those injured leaflets, and I also see a very slight bit of color coming in overall, she is definitely puttin on her party dress

I love these macro shots bro! You’re killing it in this water system, to keep numbers low and have super healthy well yielding plants it really seems like the way to go.
When hydro or aero is dialed to the T this is the results.
First grow I ever saw in person was a flood and drain table in lava rock and man when he had those tables diadem with ak-47 shit was unbeatable!

I’m not a hydro guy so take my advice with a grain of salt but I’d say she’s well fed and probably has stored reserves that can take her till the end.
It’s a timing issue last run I felt I started fresh water just a bit to early, the weed is superb but too early yellowing drops the yield for a lot of strains. so it’s a balancing act lol

I would expect her to slow down at this point, I do not think it was your res change.

To your question, personally I would amend. I'm still seeing a lot of white pistils (new ones too?) and no change in trichs last you reported. So you have 2 weeks left, more if you want to stretch it out.

I'm of the school of thought that the colorful fade (I can see it starting in your girl) is cool to look at but does nothing for the end product. If you time the fade wrong, you may be forced to harvest before she is ready. That said, @Trustfall has grown more plants than I have ever seen, and he says let her go. Sure he's not a hydro grower, but this is not a hydro vs soil issue, it's a grow style issue.

You decide. Either way you will learn something, and I don't think you will hurt your grow much at all either way. Nuance.

Man I can't wait to get that half a pack of smokes from Max. It's about time I started smoking cigarettes.

If you think you are lite or short then ADD!
I saw it but refused to recognize it [ in soil] and well the rest is written.
Looking hungry in your view means they are probably hungry. I would trust you or myself.
Fade will still happen.
With zero hydro I will say you can always dilute in the future if wrong.
Love your grow and style man!

Thanks for the love Fam! Ya'all seriously rock!

Also, thanks for all the great advice, super solid in all regards. I definitely appreciate @Trustfall and his experience growing, I almost went this route. However, my gut has been telling me deficiency, in particular Potassium, see photos. In the end I decided to amend the res by two gallons worth of late bloom ratios, got the ppms back up to around 550. Gonna keep an eye on things and add more if needed.

Funny, you were at over 1000PPM, now hovering around 500. Had burn, and now seeing fade. Seems to me you figured out where your limits are on nutes this grow, and every strain you do that with will become part of your rote memory.

I just don't think you need people advising you any more. What happens next is you start to see changes in the plant, have experience to fall back on, and you don't overreact, which can be the kiss of death in a fast grow like RDWC.

I'm guessing you have also thrown out the GH chart at this point too lol.

Welcome to the ranks of successful hydro growers like Aqua Man. Here is your prize.

Wow, I did not see that coming! Quite an honor to be mentioned alongside greats like the A-Man! Thanks @Moe.Red for all your help, guidance, and friendship, you rock bro!

So.....just wondering if what you thought of my read on the K deficiency? Accurate? No? I am definitely still learning to read the plants and that is what I saw, right or wrong. My thoughts were there is just way too much time to finish to be showing a K def this late in flower and that should be corrected. If I had seen this a week later, I think I would have just let it ride.

Like you had said, it probably wouldn't negatively affect anything either way and I agree, just wondering if my assessment was accurate or not.

Good stuff in Moes post above.
Whether you know it or not, you now know how to let your plants tell you what to do and know what to do.
But I think you should still ask or tell so you just don't need us anymore!
I don't have the science down, but consider myself lucky to see clearly and have a little experience being lenient on both sides.
I will still probably ask for advice but think my gut instinct will be the answer 8 out of ten times.
You deserve the gold star for how fast you adapted from one type to another.
I hope my eventual transition goes half as smooth as yours and I know this is the thread I will look to and re read again and again as questions or positions occur.
I will go out on limb and say that 8 days ago you set for 600 aprox. and now you are under 500.
They are hungry and you did right.

This is where I am at too.

Not telling you what to do, but I'd drop the green, half the brown, and add pink to get back to the 600 - 650PPM range. So your ratio at this point is 0:.5:1 grn:brwn:pink. You are done with N at this point, but still getting some N in the brown. Pink will stop the fade, while providing that last shot of sulfur, and in conjunction with the micros in brown will give you raw materials for terps. This close to harvest, you want the plant to have everything it needs to be as stinky as possible. You kinda want to get her loaded up, and later if you decide to fade, she can still make terps.

I'm sorry, I just can't help myself. Don't ask me anything unless you want me to drag out the soap box lol.

OK, this is a great lesson here. Going to go with it and dang, I thought about eliminating the green AFTER I amended everything yesterday.

To correct that error, do you think it's a good idea to dilute the res down some and then add back in the 0 : .5 : 1 ratio to get that target ppm?

That is what I would like to do and think it will suffice for what I did yesterday.

So here's where things get techy.

There is nothing wrong with feeding N all the way to the end. This will produce more weight in the harvest.

The problem with feeding lots of N in the last couple of weeks is that it can reduce THC. Buy how much is anyone's guess, there are way too many variables to predict, not the least of which is genetics. As a rule of thumb, no N just before harvest if you have that level of control. But it will not really hurt either. You didn't do anything wrong.

Where this becomes a follow your gut kinda thing is that you will never know. It's not like you are doing a side by side. N could have no effect, or it could knock 1% off your THC. All we know is that large scale testing bears this out to be true on average.

Again, follow your gut. You are virtually guaranteed a good harvest at this point no mater what you do.

Bro, I wanted to take a minute to thank you for all your encouragement. I would not be here today if it were not for great folks here at the Farm unselfishly sharing their time, expertise, and encouragement, many in that list and they know who they are. I'm so thankful for all my Farm Fam!

So glad you figured out the tech problems you were having and are now back to sharing your expertise and kindness again back on the forum.

Short video update, did a small update on the res, also sneak preview on the Mendel grow. Lots more LST going on here with the lessons I’ve learned.
