What is everyones take on this. I am able to control temp and humidity pretty well during drying. In the past I have wet trimmed. Left buds on branches, dried, and jarred.

Have read that dry trim is better for better tasting buds. Anyone have any input as to why that may be true. I would really like some good technical answers as to what is going on chemically. Thanks.

Wet trimming needs to be done all at once and usually means a quicker dry.

Dry trimming means you get a slower dry. You can also seal the buds away and trim when you need to/can be fuct. Still trimming bits of a harvest that came down in March!

Just to be clear, I know how to do both. I want to know the details as to why one may be better than the other, such as why dry trimming typically results in a better tasting smoke.

Dry trim = slower dry.
Chlorophyll gets locked in during a quick dry, and tastes like shit.

So does Chlorophyl slowly attach itself to water, then evaporate with the water? In a fast dry with wet trim the water is gone, and the left over Chlorophyl has no way to get out?

Not a clue on that level, I'm no chemist! Chlorophyll also breaks down during curing so I could be wrong.
if you dry quickly you risk losing vital flower terpenes that account for much of the taste. That might be more accurate.

Wet trimming is faster and easier but result in not the best final quality .
Dry trim is slower and harder but it retains better the flowers quality in the end.

Nobody can tell wet trimmed bud from dry trimmed bud. You can slow dry wet trimmed bud or dry your dry trim plants too fast. Whatever works for your production style is fine. With the centurions and twisters on the market these days it doesn't matter how you do it. Drying is the important part. If you are a home grower I would do a little bit of both

I believe wet trimming is for someone who has perfect drying condition. For people who do not have perfect conditions like myself. We need to leave more of the plant on to slow down the drying process to make up for our lacking environment.

I prefer more towards the dry end as not so sticky and the leaves come off easier

I dry trim indoor, wet trim outdoor due to disease concerns. My indoor is cured well, dried well, it's dialed in , but outdoor I have in a room with a fan and hope for the best

I wet trim, leaves stand and out so it’s easier by far.
Crystals don’t fall off near as much as there still wet.

No dry because the small itty bitty leaves I left behind are now caressing my bud and have to place my scissors under each to lift and get.

2nd way more crystal fall off and if I wanted to make hash I would have just frozen wet.

Enjoy and good luck with your trimming.

Wet is easier is about the biggest difference I've found over the last 25 years

You can get the small leaves and dont have to deal with knocking off trichomes when wet trimming
Your bud shouldn't be dry enough for trichs to fall off, you probably overdried IMO fresh weed is sticky/springy, not crumbly. If the stem snaps its way too dry, pull it earlier and stabilize it by burping in canning jars instead. It will make a world of difference for terps ✌️
Happy growing 😃
