Moving my big ol pleco & the 55 gallon today. Old stand was getting kinda wonky & I decided I'd rather not come home to 55 gallons of broken fishtank spilled in the middle of my house. Stand is over built in case I decide to get a 100+ gallon tank later. It's all 2x4s run smooth thru the planer, burned with the torch to enhance the grain, & then sprayed it with a flat spar urethane. Just gotta get glass & spray a super light coat of black or brown to tint it & drop it in the the channel, will hide the filter & stuff down below.

dam that came out beautiful...used to have fish tanks as well....buddy had a 210 Salt Water....was amazing, that wood looks awesome....makes me wonder how that would work building a guitar....been seriously thinking about getting a DIY kit and build one....just the kits come with cheesy China electronics....but the body and neck are supposedly good quality ... Solo is recognized as one of the better DIY kit companies, that burnt wood look would be crazy on a guitar bro ~

Thanks man! I've been involved in refinishing for a long time but this is my first time burning anything, I'm really happy with it. The guy who helped me actually had woodshop with me back in high school, he bought a house a mile away about 6 months ago & we've been hanging out a lot ever since. He makes & sells some pretty sick cutting boards as his main business & does furniture on the side, I'm sure between the two of us we could build anything.

Burning the wood was exactly like spraying a car in my opinion. Uniform speed & distance were key. Too close & it would just char, to slow same thing. I put the torch (bernzomatic propane like a plumber's torch or someone who takes dabs a lot & doesnt play with them sissy Lala butane torches) on full blast locked on & kept a distance of about 3-4 inches @ a travel rate of about 1ft every 3-4 seconds. Guitar will def be thinner wood & will require a lil more speed so it doesnt try & blister. Not all torch tips are the same either, my bernzo is an older model & the tip seems more concentrated than the two newer ones I've used.

Oak table I built for my mom about 12 years ago has a slate tile inlay

Man I see furniture I could easily build listed for thousands of dollars on etsy... just dont know anyone who wants to pay thousands for a table lol.

Lol I'll make a burn video showing dif speed & the effect if you need to know more, more than happy to help bro! Believe me with some gloss urethane that burn finish would be sooooo siccckkkkkkkk.
I'm gonna be testing dif types of wood & finishes later so I'll keep you updated on what I learn

I can tell you already hard woods proved difficult to get the grain to show. Pine was easy peasy. I think with the hard woods its gonna take multiple light passes or maybe a less concentrated flame, I just couldn't get it to look even on my practice piece, I wasnt trying very hard either tho since my workpiece was pine.

I watched a kid basically play whack a mole with the spindle sander once. Was working an inside piece with a big drum & the sander grabbed it from him & started swinging it around in a circle & he kept ducking under it as it got faster & faster. Teacher hit the breaker before we could see if the kid could reach a high score lol
