Now for some goods news.. The mail man brought me an early birthday present today my new flower tent light has arrived Unit Farm UF4000. All hooked up and ready to rock and roll provided I can get these girls the distance.

Within 24hrs the fan leaves deteriorated rapidly so I removed them and the next day there was improvement. Yesterday I started some light stress training to even out the growth. The plants have continued to improve and with the one in the gold pot looking a bit yellow today I gave a light feed of 80ppm and will alternate with plain water. I noticed roots poking out the bottom this morning when I picked the pots up so they will get transplanted in 2 days provided they continue to improve after the feed.

I took a look at the roots of the plant in the gold pot this afternoon and she was close to being root bound with the plant in the black pot not far behind. So I took the opportunity with the girls looking happy to transplant into the cloth pots with the amended soil mix ( + perlite ) The soil in the cloth pots was just damp as I misted the mix as I turned the perlite through so I'll wait for that to dry out a bit then give them just water to start. I've removed the pipe cleaners for now until more growth developes and they show no signs of stress from the transplant.

That soil mix looks much better. The cloth pots will help get air to the roots as well. Some minor signs of deficiencies. Are you checking the PH of your feed solution?

When mixed PH is at 7 now I'm using tap water it was 7.9 for the first few weeks with rain water..

If you have some PH down and are confident in your meter the plants could access nutrients better if you could get that PH in the 6.0 to 6.5 area. Since it is already a tad high you might consider shooting for 6.0

Evening crew.. it's been quite a while since visiting this site and I'm here hopefully to post my first attempt at an indoor grow. Got a 3ft X 3ft tent that's only 6ft high and I'm already thinking this may be an issue. I went with 2 x 6inch Spiderfarmer exhaust units one to blow filtered air into the tent and one to remove hot air each fan 200cfm. This will also help to keep negative pressure throughout the grow. Also Spiderfarmer 3000W LED light board without a dimmer also may be an issue. I've removed the control board from the light panel and running it from outside the tent to keep temps down as I live in a Subtropical climate. Also using the cool exhaust air to regulate the temp of the control board to the LEDs hoping to improved efficiency and longevity of my lights. Only growing 2 plants at first to see how I go, I need to get some to germinate first. I'll be growing in non fertile soil as the medium and supplimenting nutrients. Heat sink that power supply to concrete or metal. Wood is an AWFUL heat sink. By simply setting it on the concrete floor (or a sheet of aluminum about 2-3x the size of the power supply) , you will likely solve the overheating issue you're dealing with using the tent exhaust..

Just wanted to be a bit clearer... by "sheet of aluminum", I mean a sheet about .5mm thick... not aluminum foil. However, you could stack sheets of aluminum foil and it might be a bit better than a solid .5mm aluminum plate.

Just make sure to use proper thermal adhesive and bond the heatsink to the power supply metal to metal... not over stickers or paints.

I'm in Arizona growing in a 4x4x7 tent in an uninsulated shop and summer heat is a serious problem... you're in Australia, right? Winter time... but I suspect summers can get pretty brutal there too.

Yeah I'm in Australia just started Winter but summer will be a different story. I'm not having issue with lights over heating at the moment but this will definitely help for summer when shed temp is rather high.. I think I might actually have a peace of aluminium down in the shed..

This won't help with the light heat (but that's not much of an issue with LEDs), but heat shortens life span and kills electronics... and this can help protect the power supplies and extend their life.

110f+ days, in an uninsulated shed with a metal roof... and a power supply that already runs hot... they aren't designed for that, but it's easy to DIY a minor upgrade and create a "sink" to "dump" the heat into. Also, with your tent exhaust blowing on the heatsink, it will be VASTLY more effective.

So girls are looking ok seem to be recovering from the transplant started some light stress work again yesterday arvo the smaller of the two has come back we'll. The other messy looking plant has clawing maybe still from the over watering or could be the fan is too strong and she has wind burn so I'll raise the fan and see how she reacts. Gave them a feed yesterday morning of 100ppm 1.5ltrs each just to wet the soil and will alternate with water next feed dropping the PH to 6 to see if this will help. Humidity is better now having the larger cloth pots temps are low as the shed temp is very low..

It will depend... IF you can get a good amount of the bottom of the power supply touching the heatsink, then the heat will diffuse into the aluminum and give a huge surfface area to bleed the heat off into the air.

Various power supplies I have seen and a few I own seem like they are designed so they can be heatsinked like that (in fact, I have a 12v DC power supply I just set on my shop floor and it works great), however, if their is even a *tiny* gap it won't help.. much. Easy to fix tho... I'd just fold aluminum foil exactly the size of the bottom of the power supply until it was just a tad thicker than the gap, and sandwhich it between the aluminum plate and power supply. This will absolutly help... and with your tent exhaust blowing on it, it should be sufficient.

However, if you still notice it running hot when summer hits, an engineered heatsink and an ultra thin layer of thermal glue is ideal because it is designed to provide 99.99% contact between the heat source & heatsink and transfers the heat more efficiently. Also, engineered heatsinks provide massive surface area to bleed off heat and take up less space.

I have never needed these on my power supplies, BUT I do use them on the motors of the "bucket coolers" I build to deal with overheating -- these cheap radiator fans work great for this, but they overheat because they need massive air flow... so I had to create the air manifold & attach heatsinks. These are only 5mm 5mm x 3mm... and 8 of these tiny heatsinks did the trick.

Almost one week in the cloth pots and they seem to be yellowing with the messing looking one more so. I removed a couple of lowers from each that were declining rapidly, the way they yellowed from the tip of the leaves back indicated it is sucking the nutrients out of the leaves because the roots won't uptake any nutrients. If I were to have a guess I think they both have lock out so I will wait until they dry out flush them and check the run off. Yesterday I made a week foliant spray with seaweed solution and sprayed the messy one once a day to see if the colour come back before I flush.

Or perhaps Nitrogen deficiency as the yellowing has been progressive and the veins aren't dark but has only occurred since transplanted so I'm not sure. You can see by the progressive pics it has been gradually getting more yellow..
