One of these days I'll spring for an AI controller but for now the old way is fine lol. We never even had these simple luxuries for the majority of my growing experience so I'm very grateful. šŸ’š

I turned the UVb fixture on. 5 mins before lights on and three more 5 min intervals spread throughout the day. I'll keep a close eye and go from there.

Had an unplanned pregnancy pop up šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™‚ļø

Remember we were joking about brewing beer as a "sustainable" way to harvest CO2?
I'm experimenting first with yeast and sugar water. If I set the fans to make the tent basically a closed space it goes from ambient to over 600 in less than an hour. I'll keep a close eye today on how long a jar lasts.

Besides the usual wonkyness everyone looks ok šŸ’š

You’ve got a solid setup going there — reminds me of the kind of grows we used to run before everything went high-tech. Sometimes the shed grows bring out the best results with the right care and attention. Looking forward to seeing how it all finishes up. Keep it going steady

Someone here on the farm was doing something like this with yeast i think!? Maybe they were talking about doing it and were questioning the off gas quantities and safety or something like that.

My wife does sour dough starts so i may see about trying this! I keep my flower room pretty tight during lights on during the day. Ac only no outside air. Wondering if my plants would like the addition of some CO2? Im running my room hot with the lights turned UP! 😃

@SunshineSupergirl is doing it in her window grow! When the exhale bags came out everyone screamed "scam!" but missed the whole point of having a closed room and needing more heat and light. This fixture, plus the UVb throws down and I've got plenty of summer heat on the way. Just trying to get ahead of the curve on that and have options.

When I put the CO2 meter it the tent it would shoot up to 1100 if I just breathed in there for a minute while watering and so I figured I'd give the yeast the chance. The trick is to feed the yeast more than sugar so they have some strength and longevity. So they're getting a little micro and grow at like 300 ppm.

Yes! Thats her! : ) I think there may have been another also, created quite the debate about whether it was ā€œsafe or notā€ to be in there? Maybe that was sunshine? Either way doesnt matter lol im hella high drinking my coffee!

I’ll let my wife know about the feeding of the yeast. She has tried a few different ways over the years. Much like me, she likes to see what happens when you mess around with ingredients and even try all new methods.

So how sealed are we talking about needing for this to work? Like 100% or 98% and i guess if it’s less one could just bump the co2 output up? Very ignorant on the topic. But i seem to be running an environment that could be beneficial if i added a co2 jobby and, could totally swing a jar with some yeast in it! 🤩

I'm like 95% closed right now. If temp gets too hot, the intake cycles on and there's positive pressure, if humidity gets high, the exhaust kicks in. So far, when the outside temp is below 72° the tent is basically exchanging zero air. The only exception is for 3 hours when it's in the sun, then the inside temp jumps up and the fans work basically the whole time. The thing is, this is in my dark period, and the need for CO2 goes way down then so I don't mind sucking it out of the tent.

You can see it action right now...the intake is blowing up the tent with cool outdoor air keeping enough of the shed heat out and the exhaust is at zero.

Outside temp 72°
Shed temp 91°
Tent temp 80°

Oh man thats awesome! With having a little bit warmer temps I figured out I could run my exhaust system to control humidity this growšŸ˜† were gettin there! hahaha!

thanks for the break down! : ) āœŒļø

My DIY CO2. I couldn't be bothered with an airlock when a sponge works fine

I made sure the source and the monitor are on opposite sides of the tent to get the most honest reading I can

Starting back at ambient, mid 400s. Let see how it does tonight.

It’ll be interesting to see how long it stays elevated.

I brew beer, and a 5 gallon batch of beer can take a week or so to ferment. I’ve captured the outgassed CO2 before, and it’ll easily fill a ten gallon bucket. But it comes on hard and heavy the first couple of days, then slows down for a few more, before calling it quits at around day 7. It depends alot on the temperature, and how much sugar you give the little ones.

I’ve always wondered if the yeast would produce more, longer, or both when compared to some of the mushroom spores. I find it hard to imagine a 2 kilo block of mushroom spawn could put out 10 gallons of CO2 . . . but I also imagine they can push out CO2 for a longer time period than a week.

Whats your recipe for the CO2 in a jar?
It seems to elevating your CO2 levelsšŸ‘šŸ¼
1:10 sugar:water, add some yeast usually does the trick.

So, if it’s 1L of water, about 100 grams of sugar.
You can also do molasses or honey. The yeast doesn’t really care much.

The recipe

3 cups 100° water
1/2 cup sugar
2 tsp or 1 packet of yeast
1/2 tsp flora micro
1/2 tsp flora grow

Dissolve the sugar in 1 cup of the water, then add the remaining water, micro and grow. Sprinkle the yeast on top and let it hydrate and sink to the bottom, about 5 min.
Then one light stir, cap it, and in the tent it goes.

I noticed an increase within an hour. It's been about 4 now and it's over 700. My goal is to make a formula that peaks at 6 hours so it might take some tweaking.

The plan is to change it every day and there's definitely room for a second jar as well.

It's hour 5 and starting to slowly decrease. Down to 650. Let's see how long it takes to fade completely.

I read somewhere that 800 is the minimum to really do any good! And that 1500 is a sweet spot! But you have to maintain a pretty tight VPD! Hope you can make it work!šŸ‘ are your fans, mixing the air up good! Otherwise it just sinks right down to the floor!

Yeah the meter is a couple feet off the floor on the opposite side of the tent. Might even be a higher concentration at plant level. It's generally recommended to run hotter with a higher vpd with CO2.

The original plan was to shut this down from memorial day to labor day and avoid the summer swelter. I should have known then that I wouldn't be satisfied doing that!

I need to control VPD in high humidity conditions using only added heat. This tent is going to run like 90° sometimes even at night whether I like it or not so this is the best way I know how to deal with it!!

And I was wrong before, the exhaust must have just cycled before I checked because it's back up to 783!

Temp 78°
Rh 72%
VPD .92 kPa

It's been over 13 hours and it's the highest reading so far at 846. I'm guessing because the tent is closed it's just trapped in there? We'll have to see what happens when the tent is full of plants I guess. šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™‚ļø

I just poked in to check the jar and it's definitely dead.
