100% BS... under HPS maybe but I never had red or purple stems under HPS, same strains under Intense LED's make stems red & purple depending on the strain. There is nothing any Cal, mag, nitrogen, P or K will do to fix it under led. I feed mine much more calcium under white LED's & I get the most red & purple stems, but its nothing to fret as the leaves tell the real story & there is no cal deficiency with my plants... but what is a magnesium/calcium deficiency is what I circled in this picBuddy look at ur stems. That a cal mag deficiency. Are u watering with RO or distilled water. If so u must add. Dark red purple stems r 100% signs of cal mag deficiency especially if ur plant look like it suffering. Hope this help. Just buy cal mag from ur local store
pH & ppm
pH is coming out exactly what I am putting in, 5.8-5.9
PPM was coming out 1800 when I fed and 800 with plain water. (Feeding at 800-900 ppm)
What do these results tell you?

Tells me the plants are eating most of what you are feeding them but its very high ppm and it will build up.
I just had a plain water feed, I’ll let you know what the ppm coming out is on next feed.
thanks for the explanation, now I understand it is a method to see what is being consumed!
Runoff should be checked every time so we can see trends developing. It will show ph going up or down as well as ppm and its color and if it smells can alert us to problems as well.
But it is not accurate enough to trust just a random check once in a while. It can be different than the root zone.
I am checking it with every feed now and will keep you posted. What problems signs should I be looking for in the run off numbers?
Since starting to water with run off, I have not gone over 10% run off.
Does anyone know why the white pistils aren’t growing out further anymore? Should they?

Mostly that the ec goes up a lot more than you put in. And usually 15-20% runoff is suggested but it is just a guideline. I want to wash out calcium amd iron from my well water so i use more runoff.
My TDS meter says it has ec capability, but not sure how to test it correctly. I see numbers like1.0 -1.3 ec, but the meter reads like 1800 u/cm

But that meter says it reads EC too.Ec is universal. Tds and ppm are different factors. It would be great if everyone used ec.

how do you read your EC? from run off water? What tool?
@MIMedGrower can you help me analyze the runoff readings?
runoff readings from last night:
pH 5.8
TDS 1531
uS/cm 3280
Edit: i found this helpful article :)
Numbers i see for this stage of the plant say input EC levels should be 1.2-1.5; does that sound right?
