@HerbalEdu: And what were yields in comparison?
It a bit hard to tell yet after 3 harvest with LED, but my friend and me feelings and observations so far are:

plants produce it's leaves stages faster and get bigger faster with HPS 250W than with LED 200W the first few weeks of vegetation, being ready for the 12/12 flip sooner

yield seem pretty much equivalent/the same (may be a little smaller with LED) but bud are noticeably more dense and compact with the LED 200W than with the HPS 250W resulting in much more apealing buds once dried and cured.

this have to be confirmed with some more grows with some more strains.

i ll probably bump this thread again after a few more growsession from my friend and me to share our observations

I'm still thinking it's not really worth the switch. They claim a 300W one will do the job of a 1,000w HPS but anyone who's used a 1,000 watt HPS can tell you that's bullshit. 750 Watts of LED sure it's possible.

Of course you grow 100 plants in a hydroponic colosseum with a 600w HPS you can do more damage than any LED. Of course that's a lot of clones and work for 1 little grow room. You're growing pounds the electricity is cheap enough to add a few thousand watts and probably pay a lower rate than a Tesla owner.

Been using hps since I bought a full kit about 5 years ago! They work fine but the heat always burns the tops of my trees!Im in Scotland so it’s only hot in summer for 2-3 months and I use lst to keep them small!Been thinking of switching to LED’s but some comments here are putting me off!Im going to buy decent lights so can anybody recommend any?Im going to get a bigger tent so I can grow 6 phenos at a time!(autos don’t seem to work good for me.)!I think a 6-2 metre tent should do it!I only get one in my 2-1 tent! How much led power should I need? Thanks guys!!!🇬🇧💯💪🏻

I am fighting 100f outside these days and keep the room 78f. I just have some hot times in tent temp up to 84f. Have started some AK auto flowers in pots today so will have those ready when y flowering is done. I use Two 300 w led and two fans and humidifier so get heat from that too...I just knkw don’t grow photos in the summer.i will see how these do and decide if I want to grow autos or photos.
Happy growing😊😊😊
I just cant get autos right with my setup!I don’t know what I do wrong but I never seem to get more than an oz or two so it’s not worth it!An extra couple of weeks for a pheno and I get sooo much more! What do u think I’m doing wrong?Im using hps right now but will be changing to leds soon!

Check out the chinese HLG lights from alibaba, they make identical models to the NA version but it only costs about 300 USD + 70 shipping. I've seen people over on the microgrow subreddit go nuts over them for a while now.
I’m going to be switching soon from hps to leds!Would you recommend these and are they expensive? How many would I need to cover a 4-2 metre tent? Thanks bud!

you can have a look at one of the most used and rather cheap led brand like:

spiderfarmer, viparspectra, hlg, vivosun, phlizon, ac infinity, mars hydro

6x2m tent is rather big you will need 12 light that work for 1m² so 12x 300w to 500W led like for exemple spiderfarmer sf4000 480W, se3000 or g3000 300W, se5000 or g5000 480W

Lol, you wish. I've got about a half pound each R7 and R15...

And here is another sweet HPS grown top for good measure lol. May as well see what these puppies can do. Id love to see more LED growers show off their nice buds too.

If I were to notice anything different about the bud structure from some pics I've seen here, it would be HPS seems to produce rounder, denser buds, and (some brands of) LED looks to produce more foxtailing and looser bud clusters. But a lot of that could be attributed to environment. Nevertheless, it would be cool to see a bit of a friendly photo showdown between the two lol. Or is that inviting disaster? haha

How much hps do you use?Been thinking of switching but loads of these comments are putting me off!Going bigger to a 4-4 shortly as I only grow phenos!Im thinking I should just get another hps which would put it up to 1200!Is that enough for a 4-4?Im using a 600 in a 2-1 metre tent and only getting one at a time but I want about six, will this do?Thanks!

It’s a 4-2 or 3-2 tent sorry!4-4 is too big,your right!Been looking at spider farmer,are they good?Maybe just get another 600w hps!Would that cover say a 3-2?

There is a company that has acheived a spectral output that matches natural sunlight incredibly closely. Way ahead of the competition.

Here is the spectral output of their different lights. There is one for for veg (bottom), transition (middle) and flowering (top).

These could be a game changer! 😎

What are they called?Thinking of changing and this might sway me!Are they expensive?

the calcul is the same as before

for a 4x2 tour gonna need 8 light that cover 1m² for a 3x2 6 light that cover 1m².

Bbs hpswatt

to cover efficently a 4x2m or a 3x2m you would need 8 or 6 400W hps

Would two 1000 w do a 3-2 then? Not very smart with all this stuff yet, thanks bud!

@gazyabam Yujileds is the brand. I have been working on a design using their bulbs for s few months.

As a general reference, thus might be useful.

2 1000w won't offer a good light coverage for a 3x2 that's why you want 6x400W for a even light coverage and light dispersion or 6 led that cover 1m² so 300W to 500W led x 6

30 watts per square foot is still a good rule of thumb for LED lights. It's what I use for my tents. So, doing the conversion, 2x3 meters is 64.6 square feet. Multiplying that times 30 results in 1,938 watts. So, yes. 2,000 watts would be a good size for that space.
