12 days into flower. Spotted something that looked fishy. Opened it up under a microscope and sure enough, this is definitely a male flower yeah?

Plants aren’t really under any major stress.

Chop it down?

Also, there’s no way for me to get a good look throughout all the plants with how they’re situated under a screen. I have noticed from almost the beginning of flower formation that there are browning pistils already. Would have to go double check but I think mainly and possibly only the 12/12 pistils. So possibly not pollination but I don’t know..

I think I found another one on that plant, plus probably one on another. Not sure about that yet. Go ahead and cull the whole plant yeah?

Continual defoliation can cause herm. Excessive loss of leaves. Node sites or bud sites clipped off. Sex organs (single blades at the base of leaf sites) removed during defoliation. Not enough rest between prunes. Any one stress with a defoliation, followed the next day by another defoliation, even a light defoliation day after day will cause it.

3-4 day rule between defoliates in veg. Longer waiting in flower. I adopted the 2-3 heavy defoliates and scheduled specific times of growth periods. Only up to 3 leafs in flower After week 4 and only if they need to be gone. Not including dead ones. Flipping to flower is the ultimate stress the plant will go through. Hence why some or most prune heavy one week before flip and then 3 weeks after flip to manicure it back to what they wanted before the flip. Then the least amount of stress possible after that.

Pruning snagged me in the test phases of early growing. I only went to the second day after pruning and she was doing soo goood. But because I couldn’t stop touching her and trying to take too much off in one sitting, she hermed on me and was popping pre flower. I had her for a couple months and she hated me for chopping her up too often with no rest inbetween.

Time is against the grower to manicure and prune. But time always has to be given to the plant to recover before we stress more. Genes have a lot to do with their stress limits. But if you maintain a 3-4 day rule and limit it…you have to schedule your prunes and be very careful. Pruning is what will do this to a lot of first time pruners. It got me on my best plant when I first started.

Typically, I always put a body bag over her entire plant and do it gently not to rustle her up too much and rip her out.

Just before my first push to flower, there was that one girl that was so nice and she hermed. I tossed her out as soon as I saw a stick and ball. Only one or two sacks barely opened. After removing it I pushed flower on some other plants in the room, after a couple weeks. No signs of anything until week 6 of flower. Bananas, multiple sacks overnight and forced to early harvest my first bunch of cuts due to pollination. And I made sure to not touch them or stress them the rest of the time and only 90 degree LST, no pruning. She was pollinated but it took her a while to show it in full force.

Basically, I wish I had started over and dumped the whole room and sanitized.

But with that all being said. I find my self going a week + between prunes. Because I am afraid of my past mistakes and have taken the back seat since then. And boy has it made the difference to let them “chill” more than I caused stress. Better bud, success and less work. When I’d say to myself, I want to cut these off, I always waited a day or two. Always forcing myself to wait a day or two when I had the feeling I wanted to remove or cut something. I just say nah, 2 days after the thought, let’s plan what and how much. So I’ll stare and plan for 2 more days even after the 3-4.

Gotcha, thanks for the information!

I have been plucking a few leaves here and there every couple of days.

That’s the kind of precious information that unfortunately I’m just getting now, but too late.

Heartbreaking after 2 months of pretty damn decent health and vigor. I thought I was doing pretty good :(

I don’t see any open male flowers but I don’t have much access to see. Pollinated already maybe, just 12 days? I saw this at least a day or two ago, so could be more like pollinated within 10 days?

Early brown hairs, squished calyx at the lower parts of main stems (not supposed to cut these off during prune and lollipop), stick and ball, bananas.

An okay, so when you prune leaves, you gotta look super carefully or prune them a bit further away from the stalk?

You think it’s time to squash the whole grow and start over?

Stick and ball, bananas? Are you seeing that in those pictures?

You sure you see a squished calyx? I thought I was being reasonably careful but I can certainly be more careful in the future.

Smashed looking calyx and Brown hair means is has already been pollinated, so there is pollen everywhere. That’s a ball and it had a stick attached to the plant, if they are open at all, any of them, pollen is everywhere. Bananas come from the buds and drop pollen and is progressive stage of it.

in flower they say “If it is yellow, double check” (looking at new growth during bud production). Because bananas will be yellow growth and almost look like new bud growth.

I do not see that but that is the information of how to identify when or if herm/pollinated. So if any of those are true. It’s infected the grow space with microscopic pollen. It will rest anywhere. If let go that way, the pollen will even become visible on the leafs as it just falls all over the place and looks like white powder. It can also look like white powdery dust on surfaces in the grow space.

I do small defoliating every 3 to 4 days, and heavy pruning once a week. Worked okay so far. Mid to late veg though when there's just too much bush going on

I was doing lite defoliation every 2-3 days, never did anything even remotely major.

Listen. What you do is just wait a few days and keep finding or trying to find more. Look for all those things. If you catch it super early and scour your butt off on her, you can sacrifice and pray to the weed gods. If it is a male

You mean the very first picture? The one through the microscope lens or are you talking about one of the regular perspective shots from the last set?
