Would appreciate any input on the photos i will post below. First time RDWC (current culture) grow. running chillers at 66 degrees using house and garden nutrients. House and garden nutrients does leave the water with a dark tinge from the roots excelurator, amino treatment, and multi zen but i question whether this is just nutrient stain or is this early onset root rot? i provided a handful of photos and will/can upload more pictures tomorrow. 12 plants total. as you can see from the brown speck on my finger, something clearly came off the root lol

i can provide any follow up information if you need it.

Thank you.

i really appreciate the quick response from you and gnome. just to confirm, hydroguard is compatible with house and garden nutes? should i add the hydroguard everytime i mix up my weekly nutrients? sorry for so many follow up questions. thank you!
Yes it is compatible with any thing except UC roots.uc roots will kill any beneficial bacteria which is what hydroguard is.avoid putting h202 in there also.get the hydroguard.u might need to add double dose on the first round to get it going but them roots will whiten right on up

Thanks boss. im seeing a lot of posts say amino treatment and roots excelurator are no good in rdwc systems. is it still acceptable to use the roots excelurator Silver since it was designed for hydro? i dont know if house and garden is your forte but i figured id ask.

thank you.

I wouldnt put anything organic in dwc.i use to back in the day but found the less I put in the better all the way around.using 2 part flora duo and calmag till bloom gets me through veg with big roots and healthy plants.all them additives aren't gonna give you a bigger plant or a faster veg time so there really pointless.2 and a half week old clones in rdwc no joke.

I noticed no one suggested uc roots was wondering why?
Cause that shit is bottled diluted pool shock.18 dollars at walmart can get you about 20,000 gallons of it.but you have to keep adding it cause chlorine evaporates, bennies just keep building the army to keep everything pearly white.ive used both and prefer hydroguard.uc roots is for complete sterile systems which is almost to impossible without uv filters and alot of root boosters are organic.

Thanks man, yeah, I've read about the cost of uc roots, I've been trying to run a sterile system, but it keeps going bad after a couple good days. My chiller is set at 64 yet the water temperatures creep up to 70 then back to 65

It's normal for the temps to fluctuate between a range.64 is to low for bennies imo.i would keep it set to 68 degrees and let it creep to 70 and than back down as long as your running hydroguard or another beneficial bacteria.
64 is to low for good root development and colonizing bacteria.
Running a true sterile dwc is almost impossible cause when you drop water levels, the area in the net pot is unprotected and seems to be the breeding ground for pathogens.
Get the hydroguard in there asap and things will brighten up

Should I just replace uc roots for hydrogaurd and do the feeding schedule cc uses? I appreciate your help more t h an you know.
Everything I read is not up to date.

Depends on your water quality.i know some guys can get away with just using UC roots and other cant.
I think bennies are gonna out perform a sterile system any day of the week.also with bennies you can use root starters and other organic stuff if you feel the need.
I have tried uc roots and it was ok,made pool shock mix that was better but the problem is it evaporates and using air stones it evaporates even faster.you gave to stay on top of it.
Hydroguard you dont.i would order the hydroguard and use it at 4ml per gallon to start, and taper off to 2 ml per gallon
It's not gonna cure a severe case of root rot but it will definitely stop it from progressing and if your still in veg new roots will grow.
I've tried shit from zone to h202 and hydroguard was the only thing that I could depend on.

okay just finished up for the day. have a few follow up questions. so to confirm, im gonna cut the amino treatment and run hydroguard. i put 4 ml per gallon into my system this evening. will do a full system change this sunday and keep with the 4 ml hydroguard along with my house and garden. so when running hydroguard keep temps at 68 like you mentioned? can i still run a weekly h2o2 bath ( i was planning on letting the h202 circulate for maybe 6 hours every sunday before my res change)?

and here are two pictures of roots (this was right before i put the hydroguard in)... so i can learn, are the root strands that are sticking together in the bottom half, does that mean they are starting to go bad, or are these just danglers sticking together because they are submerged in the water?

Thank you!

Roots dont look bad,Do not run H202 at ALL in your system. That shit is bad man,It kills off everything but also creates the perfect environment for explosive bacterial growth after it leaves the system.I only use a small drop in seed starting water to keep seeds from hardening off when transplanted.I would not change the res on sunday.Leave the hydroguard in there to build there army.In a few days your gonna see root growth like youve never seen.I would wait 10 days before you change the water. If you have tanks to store the water in its best to get your hydroguard in there a couple days before and aerate the water with an aquarium pump.
Thats what i use in my top off reservoir and it stays crystal clean.Looks like you got past the first step of taking some solid advice,Congrats. The rest is easy
