you need a pump in the top off res that has a tube to lift up the water as your water level drops. And yes you absolutely need one in the top off res.No oxygenated water in a top off res is really bad about breeding bad bacteria and all your doing is filling your system with it.I got my pumps from walmart for 14 dollars a piece.I put hydroguard in it at 2 ML per gallon and it will usually build up a very nice colony within a couple days.I mark on my board whenever i add to the system which is once a week.
Once you put the filter in the top off res you will see the bad bacteria on the blue filter and after you clean it as every day goes by you will see less and less.My top off res stays sparkly clean now like a mountain creek.I use to use air stones but the filter works better and adds more DO to the water.
okay i will look into this.

and i wanted to clarify because i misrepresented some information earlier. i was trying to convey thats how i WILL be using my top off reservoir but to be clear, since i am only on about day 15, i have not used my top off reservoir in the way that i mentioned because they have not been drinking that much water. this week was when i planned on utilizing it that way. sorry for the confusion. i only correct myself so as to not misguide you on what might be going on with my roots. my roots for plants 7-12 in my second six site look better i will post pictures tonight or tomorrow. the roots in my first six site definitely all seem to be affected equally.

at what point should i consider adding something additional like great white or voodoo juice?

thanks dude!

i wouldnt add any of that other stuff man,I have had bad experience trying to save plants in the past but yours arent that bad.I think the majority of what you are seeing is stain and algae stain.Just keep doing what your doing.
Is the Ph dropping and and the PPM going up.If not dont worry about it.
When you see the PPM rising and ph falling than you need to take drastic measures.
Just keep the hydroguard in and you may have to add some more.Might not hurt to do a water change if you think it will help but at this point i think your ok

yeah man if you had root problems that dark color would be going all the way up into the pot.Im not sure what kind of nutes your using but that looks like root stain to me,I see some newer bright white roots in there so i think your good. Also when the roots loose there small tenticle roots and turn to spaghetti there fuked.they dont look bad.

ive been using house and garden aqua flakes a and b, drip clean, roots excelurator gold for the first week (until i discovered this could cause problems) now using roots silver, amino treatment was in my systems up until today and yesterday. i swapped out one site yesterday, the second site tonight. multi zen, nitrogen boost. and hydroguard.

my ppm's have pretty much stayed stable these 2 weeks but pH has slowly risen day by day so ive been using pH down when i need to. one thing driving me crazy and throwing me for a loop is i will mix up my nutes in my reservoir and then pump them into my system. i set the pH at 5.7 and its stable in the rez but upon putting it in my system it goes up to 6.3-6.5 over the duration of filling the system. do you think thats because of the algae or because the system has the oxygen whereas the reservoir i mix in does not have oxygen?

yeah bro if your having to put the orange juice in there your roots are good,When you have to break out the blue bottle start worrying,Also a falling PPM and rising PH means you need to up your EC
Yeah the roots accelerater is all hype man,I never use that shit and you can see i get retarded roots at 2 weeks.
I only use gen hydro flora duo part a and B and calimagic,I cut out all the additives and bullshit and i get better growth, cleaner roots, and just straight up better everything,.
I only use bloom acceleraters in mid flower and dry koolbloom the last 10 days to fatten everything up.My water always is a clean amber color,My hoses are always clean and never get any sludge,
And this is the worst fukin water in the country im dealing with.My starting ppm before RO is 450 and half bacteria

one concern im having is will my systems always be infested with this algae? like lets say i make it through this grow and then clean my systems afterwards. will i be able to eradicate it or is this shit gonna haunt this equipment forever?

Naw man once you clean the system its clean.ive been battling pythium for years.it sucks and you'll always have to deal with it but you can take measures to control it where it wont effect your grows.listen to what I'm telling u and u will be fine.
Your plants look good.just get the pump in your top off res and keep a close eye on your ph.it is your best friend in these systems

what do you suppose this could be boss? my first thought was phosphorus deficiency but now im not so sure and am wondering if its magnesium?

fan leaves are dark, rough texture (some crinkly), red/purple stems, and some spotting on some leaves. worse on the older fan leaves but new fan leaves stem clearly going purple/red.

overall the plants look good though

almost looks like bug damage.Have you checked for bugs?
knock on wood i have not seen any bugs that would indicate thats what this is. the occasional ant running through the room that i step on lol.

what makes you believe its bugs? christ now im worried lmao

just did a thorough examination of my 12 plants. im confident its not bugs. i see no signs of bugs and havent seen any in the room thus far knock on wood. the effects seem too uniformly systemic to me to indicate bugs but then again i dont know what it is which is why im here lol

I would guess you might have some ph fluctuations and the purple looks like the normal older fan leaf stem.
But that's a guess on my part based on what I've read somewhere . It's also why I'm here, trying to sort out the good info from the not so good. Thanks for sharing guys.

heisenbubble (or anyone else reading this thread)

check the images below. still having that problem with my fan leaves. as i said before im thinking phosphorus or magnesium deficiency but the pictures i tagged you can see how its progressed. purple stems on the top, new fan leaves are affected but its not every fan leave.

thinking i need to up aqua flakes a+b, maybe up the nitrogen boost as it has magnesium sulfate in it as well but definitely looking for some input.

thank you

sonny this thread has been quiet for weeks and then we both post within 4 minutes of each other lol. go check my recent post in this thread replying to heisenbubbles. my pH has been consistent btw. the ph osmosis stabilizer than house and garden makes is amazing

Phosporous,whats your ph at

Damn! I guessed wrong, magnesium would be my next guess, that's crazy stuff, but I've seen it before as well. Hopefully you get it figured out.

Phosporous,whats your ph at
so for the first 2-2.5 weeks my ph was over 6.2, between 6.2 and 6.5. its my first time in the system and i had several variables giving me a high ph (unsoaked grow stones, oxygen content in the system but not when i mixed up my nutes).

the last 2-2.5 weeks the ph has been locked in at 5.8-5.9 almost no drifting.

the plants have been eating well. ppms would either stay the same or lately now that they are getting bigger they would drop between 60-90 ppm over 2-3 days id say.

i switched to flower last night so it was the first night on 12/12. checked them this morning ph still stable and 5.8 and 5.9 but ppms went up about 10-20ppm per system. first time ppms have risen all grow.

so if its phosphorus, should i up my base nutrients (aqua flakes a and b) or get a separate phosphorus supplement?

thanks bro.

it started out with the purple stems and darker fan leaves. i think i underfed during veg cause i was worried about blowing them away.
