pulled about 2.5 grams of nice amber from 21 or so grams of sugar leaf. Made a few different flavored e juices that should last me awhile!

I have to say the double boil method really screws with the consistency up. I used a flat grill at 175f it took about 5 hr but quality is much better!

Everclear is Illegal in NY. Bacardi 151 is the strongest alcohol were allowed to drink.

Is it economical in terms of value to do this with bud or just trim?
Does it need to cook or can you just wait for it to evaporate?

That really all depends on if you like smoking bud or dabs... some will rinse a whole harvest for dabs.... i prefer flowers.
And it will evaporate on its own but heat makes evaporation happen 100 times faster.
Do a little experiment. .. put a little iso on a plate and see how long it takes to disappear. Then do one with water. The farther you are from 100% alcohol the longer the evap.

I was wondering if anyone here has tried this with large amounts of material. I just ran 3 pounds of fluff/popcorn and had crappy yield (74 grams from ~1300 grams of starting material). I have a few process tweaks that might up the yield to something close to the yield I get from processing 1 ounce at a time (~4 grams per 28 grams of material).

In all, I washed the 3 pounds with 6 gallons of 99.9% iso. I ended up with 4.5 gallons of infused iso. Let set for 48 hours at -15F. Then filtered twice through coffee filters.

Here is 1.5 gallons of iso in the evaporating vessel after the quick wash was filtered...

I put the evaporating vessel into an oil bath and used a temperature controller from my brewing rig to keep the temp below boiling for the iso. I'd top off the infused iso when it got down to an inch or so in the pot. Here's my rig (also shows my failed attempt at reclaiming the iso)...

Here's 37 grams, or half of the total yield...

I still have inconsistent results when it comes to "shatter" and "snapping." Sometimes, it does, sometimes it doesn't. I've had some snap that was totally heated too hot (above 250F), and some that was more gel-like that was kept lower (not exceeding 175F). Really, the only reason I even care if it shatters is it makes it much easier to handle the end product if you want to give some out.

Would love any input on improving yield (aside from using better buds of course).

Hopefully going to try a few more pounds soon and will report back...

Good stuff!!! Do you give your buds a little grind or do you put it in buds whole... i noticed that helps a lot. Shaking the rinse hard helps too.

Thanks!

I would normally break them down to something slightly larger than would be suitable for rolling in a joint. In this case, they were literally see through so I didn't grind anything. It was also really dry and I was worried it would just turn to dust if I handled it much more.

I didn't shake - just poured through. That was based on the tek I originally saw elsewhere. They were adamant about not submerging, but pouring over at 1 quart per ounce. I have used that method with one ounce, with decent yield.

My thought is the difference in surface area when I scaled up to pounds. For example, when processing an ounce, I poured it into a coffee filter filled with pot. Pouring into that, all the solvent touched all the pot. When I scaled up, I used a broader screen, which meant I could only pour over a small area at a time. I was thinking I should use a tall, narrow column of material instead of a wide, short one, similar to the larger commercial rigs I've seen.

I was also thinking I should increase the overall amount of solvent (I used half of what my original tek recommended). Or, maybe using the total volume of solvent from the start and pouring that over each half pound. So for 2 pounds, use 4 gallons of iso from the start, swapping out the pot after each wash, but keeping the iso. Or just dunk it for 10-20 seconds... :) if I can get my reclaim piece working, using more solvent would be less of a concern.

Read thru this full thread last night gents (and purple lady).
Looks good. I have actually been doing the everclear process for a few weeks now in testing to get some wax for VAPE oil.

I get about 4-5 Grams, per batch of 50 grams of product I wash. I been using a stir for 30 seconds, but think my next batch I will try the shake like a MO FO for 10 seconds instead of a stir.

Once I have my wax, I then add 3:1 PG and heat it up. So for 5 grams for example, I add 15 ML of PG and heat, mix and done.

A really simple and nice power VAPE.
