Been reading through this thread and only made it about half way... a lot of great info here ... but about all my head can take in for now.

Ive ditched the idea of buying lights with the IR and UV built in as Ive seen some of you suggest they have a shorter life span and I would be better having my bar full of whites and reds. I like the idea of supplementing with independent deep reds (IR) (and maybe IV) anyways and then having them on an independent timer.

Now ive got myself a 4x4 grow space. I have been thinking I want two independent light rigs so I can adjust height independently depending on variation in growth. So two of the 2x4 rigs to cover 4x4.

But I cant choose out of the quantum board or the quantum bars from kingbrite.

Anyone got some recommendations? Also, are the red CREEs worth the extra coin?

Two of these 2x4 bar set ups:
Bars seem like they would give optimum spread + they got the cree.

This product is no longer available.

This product is no longer available.
www.alibaba.com

Orrrr for QBs I would purchase 2x these that have cree.. and the boards can be moved indepdently. So would end up with 4 separate boards

Or buying two of these provides a total of 6 boards! Boosting it up to 640W total power but they are using the epistar and not the cree (the cree model is too expensive)

Hi!

New to the forum and joined to chime in this wonderful discussion. I am new to quantum boards and was trying to figure out which one from Kingbrite would be ideal for my 4x8 room.

I am debating between 4x 240w or 2x 480w for my 4x8 room. Then there's all the different model with Cree/Epistar, UV/IR , without UV/LG, QB288/QB272 and so on. It's very confusing. Anyone with experience with quantum boards could give me some insight?

Anyone have an idea what would be ideal for a 4x8 room?

Ty for the help!

For a 4x4 area you're probably looking at 480 watts being your target for coverage. I'd go with a 480 watt board, or 2 240 watt boards, or the equivalent in bars. More lights with individual drivers tends to be slightly more expensive, but then you gain the ability to hot swap one if it fails.

For a 4x8 you're looking at double that, @Conky.

Awesome , thank you Kanzeon!

I was mostly heading towards 4x 240w to have better spread. I also guess i should avoid going with LG/UV . Now i'll have to find which one the 15 different 240 with these specs to get haha

edit: so far this is the one i'm eyeballing : https://www.alibaba.com/product-det...pm=a2700.wholesale.deiletai6.2.156328829B15sL

Yeah, I've got one of those lights. No issues at all so far. I opted for the red and UV since I can just use it for veg or indoor nightshades if some diodes die.

Remember there's no real difference between Samsung LM301B and H. It's the same diode, just labeled for "horticulture."

Cheers Kanzeon. I might jump on the bars since they can sit closer to the canopy, and should be pretty easy to replace if need be down the track. And agree with ya on the B vs. H

@Conky, the shop layout sucks to sort through doesnt it... so many listings of the same thing, or one tiny word differnt. I feel ya pain.

Just email them. sales01@kingbrite.cn

I've got a 320w lm301b with UV/IR @3000k, a 240w lm301b @ 3000K, and a far red booster strip from them.

The IR is worth it the UV isn't imo. If you want UV better to go with a UVB florescent. LED UV diodes are extremely expensive for the proper ones. I can guarantee these are not of that quality

Thanks Aqua man.

Now just to confirm, and I think this will help others who are digging through the end of this thread.

LM301B and LM301H are essentially the same just the 'H' designates horticulture lighting (marketing!)

660nm red is good to have throughout the grow cycle from start to finish as it promotes photosynthesis

730nm is IR (or far red) also boosts photosynthesis but IR = heat and ideally is not run for the complete lights on cycle, so being able to switch these independently and have them on their own timer for a shorter cycle is desirable. These diodes also have shorter lifespan then LM301B/H

UV may help with resin content but it is still inconclusive. They probably help keep pests away. These diodes also have a shorter lifespan and are less efficient

Please correct me if I am wrong

H is slightly more efficient.

IR is good all the time. Emerson effect. The epistar are meh and the cree have a better lifespan.

The best sources are florescent UVB and generally small doses.
UV is conclusive and helps but LED diodes are not ideal for UV yet and the ones that are cost an arm and a leg.

Alright, Ive changed my choon... maybe.

What if I were to purchase 8x 560mm strips and 2x 240W drivers. Make 2x frames at 4x2 each to cover my 4x4 space. Each frame would hold 4 strips and be driven by a driver each. I could then buy 4x 560mm IR booster strips to supplement throughout and run them interdependently from a 120W driver.

Only works out to be slightly more expensive then buying the complete kits. Allows me to experiment with supplemented 560mm strips (IR, UV, blue) and control them independently. Ill also build the frame so I can indepentantly move each strip (have them on rails) so I can completely control where light is.
Then if if a strip fails I just need to replace a pretty inexpensive single strip or a 240W/120W driver.
I also don't mind a DIY and do have a fair bit of electrical/fabrication experience behind me

wow you guys really do make it hard on yourselfs........... all these v1-v4 is the same thing..............................

buy a 3500k in301b or H if you want something to run start to finish..........................

3000k in cree yes there worth the extra money

I would not just buy the uv ir unit....................... if your looking to use it all the way though.........................................

if I had to pick at this point

for the same price I would buy the 301b with cree in 3000k and run it alll the way............

the uv ir are nice but they need help..... so I run 1 next to there CHEAP 301B 3500K...............

again just my 2 cents worth but man from what I seen there alll the same.....................................I think they screwed up with all these V3,v4's it's made it hard to pick.......so fast but what do I know.....

If I was to do it again I would buy all there 110.00$$$$ qb's in 3500k and run....... add some Red and Blue if you like and go.....................................

I would buy there strips of they were cheaper or had the $$$$$$ also..............................................................
