think this is from the high ph water I was giving them did not think it would rise that much on its own so looks like ill ph at 6 and go from there

Well, the smell makes me think it isn't salt. That would create a antibacterial environment. That smell says you have water sitting in those pots causing some form of rot.
You know it sounds crazy, but when I had a similar problem I literally took my brita filter and started using that to filter my water. It might be some other build up calcified something. Good luck man.
