Peace, extension agent, all cmgs (cert mast gardener s ) do volunteer for the community to help many peeps on growing...love to help and inform on the latest...doing fertilizer review now for top level production using veganic nutes...the key after the grow...is drying and cure... it brings out the flavor that is soft and rose like with the raspberry taste... KOL did a stint on veganic grown plants...food grade...I think Cervantes...Mikado the kind bud... the Kushes are IMHO r not of the same as indica, .... nitetroller cut them down now!!! My que is when the pstills have 'burnt' out, not trichomes... that usually indicate maturity of flower...average Mikado flower is 45-50 days on short , wide leaf, 5-10 xtra on the thin leaf... I have to say, that sour grapefruit is a good description of the other phenotypes... I had one ...now that u chimed did have a sharp aroma... of grapefruit... smell is super strong... u could smell it a mile away, unlike the raspberry pheo...people got scared when they put it on their person... this one reeked...at cut down could be smelled from 100' away!... this was the thin leaf sativa pheno... I think I can agree on u on grapefruit... sour ...hmmm sharp and acrid...penetrating... it was impossible to hide, needed glass to put it in... I dealt with a grounds crew on a local university here, all cmgs, one fellow got some off me, and it smelled up the whole locker room, man panicked, had to put in his car under the hood...he had to roll out at finish of day...
That's the one Fly I'm telling you about... supreme...
Peace

@chillywilly I definitely agree with you, they are ready now. I normally take this one at 52-56 days depending on season. Unfortunately I started my flush about a week later due to remodeling my bathroom, lol. This pheno also has a grapefruit smell while flowering but attains that beautiful raspberry creme smell and flava during the last week of flowering and intensifies with dry/cure. Tastes phenomenal but doesn't have that permiating smell. My grapefruit pheno reeked as well, super sour grapefruit. Very similar to an afghan pheno of sage I ran. Almost sour diesel like without the rancid skunkish smell. I'm gonna pop 2 more beans to try to find a grapefruit male and female. I've read that the raspberry males aren't the best for breeding as they tend to lower the yields of the mother. My mikado's are from hazeman seeds which I believe would be an f2 or inbred line of old federation stock. I'd like to breed a grapefruit pheno male to the raspberry female and also a grapefruit pheno female, just to keep the genes in seedform for longterm storage. I also want to dust my other keepers with mikado pollen, madness, cherry pie, pineapple, and an Ozark strawberry. The Ozark strawberry is something I made about 7 years ago. It's a strawberry haze x great white shark. Both parents sucked bad but the offspring are super chronic! Full on wild strawberry smell and flavor to the max. I've been kind of a dick and have been hoarding her in fear of it winding up in dispensories around here. All this mikado talk has me wanting to do some breeding again though.

@Easty nice stocky mutha you got there! Hard to tell if it's the raspberry till she's done. I think terpine profiles can show up in different structured plants. All the leaves in this thread do a similar look to them, even the crosses. My raspberry pheno is shorter but not super stocky. I have noticed she has super long fan leaf stems. This one has about 8-10 days left.View attachment 514726View attachment 514727 View attachment 514728View attachment 514729 View attachment 514730

@happy b she is very frosty. I've noticed the mikado trichs have long stalks on them. This seems to give them an almost 3D look to them. Almost looks like a double or triple layer of trichs. I also run a bright moments from gage seed stock that was our undisputed frost queen until the mikado was started. The bright moments looks frozen but the mikado frost looks like a thicker coating,if that makes any sense. Here's a shot of the bright moments from my last run. Sorry it's a small bud but it's the last one in the jar.

Seems I stumbled on to a great Genetic, Now I see why it was the base line for a few other runs,
Its a strong branched lady with Frost for Daze.
She is really blowin up Big
The top colas are starting to have buds coming out the sides of the buds from the top its almost the size of my fist
and its solid the sour smells along with the fruity smells is taking it towards the grapefruit side imo
The littler one is almost a super sweet and sour milk IGK it may change by friday LoL hell it just looks Great.
And so is all of yours.
Way to hit the mark Nite-Man
bring ON the Dank

Greetings all,
Still trying to get that @ thing u guys got going on,oh well ... looking most excellent Fly j now I know ure happy like I am when I got and did Mikado, it's made many friends and still is doing so...
Nitetroller I did exactly as u were saying cross the grapefruit with the raspberry...tsa...oh well, hopefully my boy when he comes back home from boot camp, he'll send the shorty strain Mikado, I sent out quite a few over the years. I think I may on next run do either sativa seed bank s 'white lady' or C99 selfing male grapefruit sativa pheno...stunning...
Oh oh , let me show u something, sweet tooth #3, a sweet pink grapefruit x Dj Short s Blueberry ... the ones that Dj and Breeder Steve did in Switzerland like in 00 or 01 from Gypsy... strong grapefruit taste...baseball bat colas, don't let the look of the size fool you, all done in Rock Creek Park in D.C. I've done some stuff that some would sh.t on themselves... I was homeless, struggling in 02, got my master gardener certification from the USDA HQ Beltsville Md, but at American U from the peeps that started the cmg program in 72, for all United States ,Canada and Mexico, my teacher contracted NIH for 11 yrs in Bethesda, got my cert from at time the head Agronamist ... learned a lot from Baker, Dr. Kathy, read and apply principles from T SLOP (the secret life of plants) ... the author was a CIA agent who became compassionate after contact and was undone...the plant told him to back off and learn... ha ha... he he he...

Peace grow buddies...

Greetings
It would seem that SPG IS the dominant strain here... check Alpine seeds description , and as Nitetroller chimed of Afghan characteristics... many Japanese have migrated to Canada if I recall correctly and that the strain would be a relative tropical(island) genotype being sativa characteristics...hmmm...SPG would possibly b as Alpine say NL strain with Afghani characteristics...

Peace grow buddies cw

What I started with
View attachment 515147
When I started this thread I had sourced Mikado Gear from 3 different Origins as It was my Desire to try and locate the Single leaf Pheno. Raspberry, I had BX gear I had gear from a very stand up breeder from Canada who had some from Federation and I had some that where Old as Dirt that were said to be pre Federation but in the end only four made it into the Flower room. One was a weak male so with 3 in flower I have focused on the Tallest and the Big yielder leaving the 3rd till Now. Here She is My Mikado #1 from Mikado F2's The Oldest Beans.
She is smaller But what a Beautiful Lady

With Frost for Daze and the smell of Sweet Berry I could not be Happier

Buddafull!!! It maybe possible that the original spg that is said to be an Canadian original for some 30 + yrs... my summation is that someone from Japan brought seeds to Canada, possibly linked with someone to attempt to stabilize or to make a seed generation from the clone only spg. SPG origins is still somewhat sketchy, but Alpine seeds say to some degree of NL influence... don't truly know though... Beautiful plants Fly... you'll be soon doing that...lol
Peace cw

@FlyinJStable, talk about saving the best for last! Very nice! That looks very similar to my pheno. Super frosty even on the fans and the same red leaf stems. When they talk about the single leaf pheno, I believe they are talking about the single leaves that pop out late in flowering or possibly the original mother had been regenerated and threw single leaves. I've noticed that mine throws normal fans early but as flowering drags on the leaves start to elongate in the middle, then finally singles on the top of the plant. I've only come across true single leaf plants that have been either regenerated or cloned during flowering. Some grow out of it and some stay like that forever. I usually off the ones that don't return to normal. Here's a shot of my mikado leaves. These are off a flowering plant that's basically done.
