You dont. It is a popular myth to soak willow branches in water and use that to root cuttings since willows are so easy and vigorous to root themselves. They contain an abundance of the popular rooting hormone (IBA?) and also salacitic acid (aspirin).

However neither of these substances are water soluble hence the myth.

I read an alcohol extraction could work but no studies are showing any effacy with willow branches.

I have giant swamp willows around my house. I thought and read about this a lot at one point.

I read someone rooted big woody 4’ cuts no problem. They just want to grow.

unrelated to willows, but Larry the roofer has done his share of landscaping and old school farming so i was trying to pick his brain for cross tech
said he used to graft the i forget what must b grafted to grow onto walnut trunk, but he said cuttings
straight into what sounded like prefabd holes and as our cloning n grafting isn't this way
i hung up across the table from him.
maybe that's of use to u guys, willow wise?

I have had great success rooting clones without anything but my well water. Just like seeds it seems problems are usually caused from environment.

and my cloner sprayers, "APPEAR", to strip off any dip
i think when dod is in one of her anticannabis moods
she just tosses hers in straight up tap, besides her more serious strainz... she's mentioned plenty of methods

i mention it because it may b an extremely valid point, ur makin very softly spoken

when i grow ditch weed or my next fuckit male

I'll not dip the cutting n c what happens

if it takes

even if it takes longer to root

i think most of us, especially med/perpetual- look for bottle necking trix that still work, reliably

this, may b another stalling technique
if it goes 100/100 in an aero cloner

I'll try it someday just for kicks but I'll only use water boil &/or soak, I dont like using solvents for anything if avoidable, the more natural the better but whatever works in the end

I believe cinnamon repels some garden pests and honey I know nothing about but i used it to cover a broken branch wound once. But it healed fine without so i never used it again.
