Sup guys and girls...well ive been watching some of Mr Canucks grow vids on YT and I just cant get my head around the claim that he just uses dry amendments...I mean your plants and buds can surely not get that big and fat just by eating some dry ammendments.I mean where does all the nitrogen etc come from, where does all the potassium and phosphorous come from to feed those sized buds, surely they are raping ppm?Coco in itself has no microbes so wouldn't they need a long time to build up in that medium etc? Its a coco grow so how does the plant survive on just dry amendments?he says he ph his water and thats all thats given but from the size of the buds etc i have a hard time believing that dry amendments alone with the coco/perlite give off such big colas or am I missing something?Even looking at the pots all i see is coco perlite nothing else?Maybe someone can clarify

Watched like 5 mins to see what you were saying. He is adding amendments that contain NPK and all needed nutrients.

Coco is a fantastic media for microbes. Highly oxygenated and tons of surface area. I would imagine unlike ppl growing in coco with inorganic nutrients he is not watering with high runoff. IMO this would be one of the best ways to grow organic since it provides such good conditions for microbes.

So I would say yes not just possible but more than likely and almost positively just amendments that he adds.

Just to further this. It's not the nutrients responsible for the bud size. Light drives growth. When you provide high light, a good environment and adequate nutrition with good genetics you get great big gorgeous buds. Imo bud size doesn't determine how good the smoke is, nor potent. Some genetics just naturally produce bigger buds under optimal conditions bit just because they are smaller does not make them any less desirable and some smaller strains really kick ass. It's more about growing a strain to its potential

so does the mixture that he uses sit for a bit or get hot etc before he uses it?or is it fresh?i also agree if thats the case this is they way id grow"organic" without having so use soil as such. This seems like the best of both worlds then, you growing in coco organically and all you doing is just ph-ing your water. Thanks for the clarification

No your not missing out on anything that’s how dry amendments work using ph correct water , it’s pretty simple , well it pretty simple for the plant . Od .
thanks Od,so in your opinion do u reckon he lets his mix of amendments and coco build up over a period to build up the microbe life and then use it or u think its a fresh mix he uses?tbh i never realised how potent some simple dry ammendments could be in a generally speaking coco grow using just phed water

When it comes to organics you kinda gotta test it out. Look at how much of each he is adding and replicate it.

The key to this will be only water till the pot is saturated not until 20% like coco normally does. Because it's organic you don't need to rinse the media or removes and beneficial microbes.

Also you will need to add microbes for the biggest benefits. Im using Raw grow and bloom microbes bit there are plenty out there.

and like what if you were lacking a nutrient etc,how would you add it?how do u know how much of what amendment to use or is that just his secret?is measuring ppm runoff still relevant in this type of grow?

thanks, yeah that makes sense not to water to runoff...let all the goodness build up.most likely microbes get produced in this manner aswel.il will definitely watch more vids and check out how he makes his medium and what is added etc,tbh i have not really done much research just wanted to get some quick info but much appreciated, helped my understanding on this topic.Il do more research and hopefully next grow il give one or 2 of my plants this technique and see how it works for me.Mr Canucks has my respect man, never thought he was bullshitting, just was surprised at how well ammendments work in inert coco

If you show a deficiency then personally I would just supplement with inorganic or add some more 4-4-4 slow release at the first sign and scratch in it the surface... Not an organic grow so while I very much understand the workings, it would really depend on the deficiency how I would go about it.

Safe bet at the first sign of hungry plants scratch in some slow release ferts. Then you could use an enzyme like komplete or hygrowzyme to speed up the availability and should be good

This is the guy I watch the most. If you watch all the seed to harvest vids you can piece together his “recipe “. You’re right though it isn’t just amendments...he mixes in other things when he builds the coco into soil. Adding in worm castings is his biggest tip for building that soil so that all you have to do is amend and water with ph between 6 and 6.5

I grew a qp Tahoe using nothing but cocoloco and happy frog dry amendments. It works.

I love Mr Canucks Grows videos, it's one of the main sources of learning some of the basics for me when I started :) glad to see I'm not the only one on here who's watched his vids

Oh man I have tried to watch others, can’t do it. Unless I just haven’t dug deep enough yet to find someone who, despite several people whining about not knowing how he grows in coco....if you pay attention you hear what he’s doing, is as good as he is with the videos. I want to insulate his grow as close as I can...it is proving very difficult to get some of the same amendments because of shipping costs. So I have had to do some digging...I can’t wait to get my first grow in and share with y’all!

Dr. Autoflower is decent also, and From Seed to Stoned is alright too, there's a few I've followed and kinda just built my own style of growing off the cumulative info I've learnt from everywhere... I decided immitating someone else's grow wasn't as simple as it sounds and just decided to wing it and make it work my own way and it's worked out so far for me :)

Just be warned you prob want a handle on growing in coco itself and amending it before you head down this path. Pot size and watering ect. Too small of a pot and amending it will cause you to water a bunch and not play nice with amendments. You will deal with PH and nute problems. There is a happy medium to reach with all of that pot size vs watering vs hotness.

Not saying you cant do it just be warned if you a newer you have a curve that might give you a rough start in the beginning.

I have been only doing dry for about two months now, since transition because my air pump went out. Clakamus Coot switched to only scratch in and has great success. Worked just fine, of course i have some true living soil thats been dosed with tons of compost tea early on, and mixed with my old dirt that has been loaded from years past. I use a combination of SST's and malted barley for their enzyme content, to make it really pop off. I do a new top dressing weekly and up the volume every time. Plants currently receiving a full bowl(reg soup bowl) plus one handful. Now what i have been told is that most guanos and meals break down rather rapidly, takes a day or two to really get rocking, it bangs really hard for 4 to seven days and then half lives after that and slowed down. Now obvisouly some amendments like rock phos or green sand will take much longer than that to become avail. But doing only small rather fast indoor grows you can probably just make a rather hot coco mix and pop em in with a layer of not amended dirt around the transplant and be almost fine for your whole grow if the soil is large enough. And getting nitrogen from organic imputs is rather easy, some fish, kelp and falfa should cover that.

I'm a little late on this, but I just finished my first grow following his method. I only used Dr. Earth's dry amendments and some earthworm castings and did pretty well. I only used molasses with water a few times during veg. Other than that I just watered it with Ph'd water. I had a Jack in a 5 gallon pot and a Big Blue Cheese in a 3 gallon pot. 3 oz off the jack and 2 oz of the blue cheese. I believe my LED is 220 - 240 W. And I had a pretty good spider mite problem that definitely slowed the plants down.
