I was working day shift at Brigham & Women’s Hospital the day of the bombing. Yup, definitely some damage to be done when filled metal small projectiles. You can purchase replacement gasket material at an automotive or hardware store, they make different thickness and materials also. I think some of the older North American units are very cheap to acquire, and well constructed, certainly the way to go on a budget.
Chances are, some of those units you could modify, if you wanted, because there made from good solid materials in most cases. It's nice to have some of the bigger units for this kind of endeavor, I suspect.
One of these old pressure cookers was used for the Boston Marathon Bombing, actually. These things can be dangerous, if the valves are not properly functioning, keep that in mind people.
I was a bomb guy in the military (which sparked my lifelong interest in Chemistry, and Science) and I've worked around lot's of dangerous things over the years, and this is one of them. Especially while making Whiskey or ETOH, can be inherently dangerous. Any super heated vapors are not a joke.
But, what if.............the safety valve...........fails?Im trying not to get too freaked out by the bomb in my kitchen here guys... lol, come on!
Lol, seriously though im not too worried about my PC. The big one especially has several safety features built in and is UL certified. And its not like the boston marathon bomber set down a hotplate and boiled the PC until it blew up. There was some actual explosives involved there. PC was just the pressure vessel. Like a big pipe bomb.
Shoeboxes are my jam unless I get into a situation where I have so many colonized jars I start to think they're gonna overthrow the regime....This is awesome stuff. I actually have a dupont painters suit here somewhere lol.. Funny, i already have almost everything i need and didnt even know it. There is probably even a still air box here somewhere if i go looking
What i think im going to do, is rather than bulking all the jars of spawn into a single mono tub, is ill do a few shoebox totes with a different spawn grain in each to see the differences. Maybe a slightly larger tote with oats since i have a lot of it. A pound of rye in one shoebox, and a pound of millet in the other. And bulk them all to coir with a dash of vermiculite.
Yeah.. those were modified and had explosives and shrapnel in them.Im trying not to get too freaked out by the bomb in my kitchen here guys... lol, come on!

In that case the gasket is desined to blow out between the locking lugs. But, what if.............the safety valve...........fails?

That, and just kinda stay away from it unless you need to mess with the heat. Wear oven mitts and heavy long sleeve clothing near it. If you wanna get real safety conscious a face shield even. Some simple precautionary measures should protect you from the worst they would do.Yup. Worse thing I've ever heard of was scalding from a gasket failing.
Still awful. But not the kitchen pipe bombs of urban legend.
Keep them shits oiled.
Me neither.i honestly dont think its a big deal.
Bingo.just run it as its designed
You will be absolutely fine because you’re diligent and aren’t trying to create a bomb. They were.Im trying not to get too freaked out by the bomb in my kitchen here guys... lol, come on!
