I’ve been aggressively topping the Photos to maintain an even canopy, I feel like they’re growing too tall too fast , encouraging them to bulk while the others catch up. I have a trellis net, but I’m hesitant to lay it across due to watering/management difficulties as well as not really knowing wtf I’m doing.

How far out am I from making the switch do you guys think? It’s an 8 ft tent.

The autos are popping pistils ; they are 36 days from seed and I’m wondering when they will flower. I’m hoping soon.

Overall I’m pretty impressed with how it’s going , I just hope I’m setting them up for a successful flower. What do you guys think?
Well, you can always stack a second trellis if they get taller than you project I’ve seen @GNick55 do that, those autos are right around the corner if they are that old. How tall are your plants including the pot? 2 ft? If you Lolypop watering will be way easier. I’ve even slipped a piece of tubing and popped it on the spout of my watering can to reach pesky plants. They look real good man.

You're over full. You need to pick the best ones. Flip em.
this does not compute to me. But to everyone else, I guess so.

Once your cover 33% of the surface area with canopy you're ready. Also you need ⅔ of your room for headroom. So in a tent a plant should be flipped before its 16" tall. It's fine. Just flip the strongest ones. Keep them from getting too tall.

Why did they grow so fast? 35 days from seed is such a short veg, isn’t it?

Looking good! A good rule of thumb is to flip when they are halfway to the light, minus the minimum distance from the light to the canopy. If you're growing stretchers like crazy sativas, it's 1/3 of the way.

Depending on your lights and the plant structure of course, your top-shelf bud is the bud that's higher up on the plant and well-lighted. If your colas aren't at least 6-8" tall at flip time they might not give you much yield. Basically, you want to prepare the plant for flower by giving it plenty of space for bud sites. I frequently flip too soon (about where you're at, I think), and get disappointed when a plant doesn't stretch as much as I hoped.

This time I flipped most of the plants early but waited for the largest to get the height I wanted and I'm expecting a great yield!

Here's an example:
20230622 111037

These plants aren't the same age, but they were flipped on the same day. I knew the one on the left wasn't going to give me a huge yield because it hadn't gained enough height. But I was short on product so I flipped anyway. It ended up growing much less than I expected, so now I have regrets. The one on the right was halfway to the light minus about 4" because I was trying to get it to grow into the light as an experiment. They're different strains, so maybe this isn't a perfect example, but you get the picture.

It's just a size issue. Good conditions are great. Tents will quickly become fungus filled if the ratio of vegetation to air space is too great. I've had clones I've been able to flip 14 days after planting. Too much is a problem. As are buds that are too large.

My problem now is six of them are autos. I would just flip and get what I get as far as yield but the autos haven’t even begun to flower. My intention was to build another tent but I didn’t anticipate this for another month or so, and I can’t afford a whole other setup right now.

@Captspaulding I know you tend to go wall to wall, what’s your opinion on timing? Roll out that trellis, even the canopy and keep vegging u think?

Sure, just gonna have to do a lot of lst to keep it where you want it, some selective pruning here and there. But I will say, I kinda try to break the rules all the time, I’m a dick like that. The best advice I could give is do what you feel most confident in, but you know how I roll, @Ponky aint wrong here, it’s just what you are willing to put up with and do. I just know what I’ve done in the past, really the amount of vegetation in your tent depends on indica or sativa dominance and airflow. Both methods are sound.

How old are your autos?

30 days from seed.
Man that’s a tough one. Are they fast flowering? Or just standard autos? My guess is standard, can you keep your tent open? Is that possibility??? Are you in a house or apartment?

I know this doesn’t solve you possible height issues, but your tent is 8ft right? Maybe you can let your tent spill out, if you have the space.

Yeah I’m looking at this again, he’ll be fine. IMHO. all these constraints folks place. That’s a big ass tent. I’ve grown 6 5 gallon in a 2x4 plenty of times with no issues. I respectfully disagree.

That's exactly why I grow autos, because you can stick to them in any tent, regardless of the lighting cycle. They'll do just fine on 12s, though yeah... Reduced yield is never a good thing.

I'm gonna veg it some more, i'll run the trellis , I'm topping like a mfkr. It's my first grow so if a top touches the light it'll be a lesson learned. I'll manage, I'm confident. I can manage at least another month till i can build a flowering tent.

Me too man, I have 8 that got forced into a 12/12 on week 4 of flower, just gonna finish them on that. Sure smaller, but they are still a good size.
