New breeding project

Ive already started popping the beans so it shouldnt be too long, but thats in breeder talk, and with so much time between run that can be awhile. But Ive already started and for the record. The columbia x CDD. These sativas didnt come from amsterdam so no worries about them just being reworked the same ole shit.

The only current project with the Chemdog D is to cross her to Columbian Gold. We are however in the process of obtaining more old school genes to bring back into the gene pool, So there are definately going to be some work done with her on some old school genes, just haven't figured out what to do yet. We have alot of work on our plates and dont know if Ill get to working her with something other than the lumbo gold. Of course she will need to be worked a bit, I know what Im looking to do with that cross, so its just a matter of time.

I'm confident you'll be successful Loompa, and don't worry about the 18 weekers. I guess, it should be quite hard to avoid lenghty phenos in a f1 cross… unless the Vietnam male is highly recessive, but that's not the plan, right?

I know I'd like to see both Underdawg and Vietnamese phenos in the offspring. And the same goes for the Chemdog x Columbian Gold line. So a nice polyhybrid with good variation would be perfect for me!

Anyway, I'll take a sit and wait patiently for the day you'll be ready to release these sativa lines! Wishing you the best of luck for all your new projects.

All very good questions. And I agree about having good variation. I dont plan on IBLing anything, I like variety and I like to keep as much of the gene pool locked up in a seed line. Im tired of breeders losing/dropping genes in favor of commercial qualities. So I like to maintain some variation to maintain those genes that are locked up instead of breeding them all out and losing them forever. Just look at the current market and you can see all the breeders choosing for different traits than I breed for and then we as a collective lose them forever. Like the real deal old school piney ghani's, roadkill, bunk BB gum genes from amsterdam, anyone remember the real old school Kali mist that was super uber dank...well thats gone now also, And the list goes on. I dont want to lose all those traits so I try not to work a line too much. Id like to get things to a point where as a consumer you can still get great keepers out of one pack of beans, but still maintain some variety because everyone looks for different characteristics and I think it is healthier in the big picture to keep and maintain specific genes that so easily get lost when breeders breed for yield and quick finishing times and dropping those heavy hitters and aroma profiles. So you will not see me IBLing much, I will work to stabilize lines but I will never breed everything out of it.

If you are thinking about using the GSC cut with your Underdawg cut Loompa, I'd also seriously consider the Sherbert cut as well. Its just a terrific match and would pair well with the GSC and even the Cherry Pie (indica leaner) for that matter. The Sherbert cut is really promising, both on flavor complexity and potency.

Just finished running the OG2 and like them almost as much as the Moondawg F1 (which still to date is the most uber-dominant male I have ever grown.) I am looking for a similarly hyper-vigourous OG2 male and figured a population run was the best way to get a better sampling. (The females were terrific.)

I know you said you don't like the sweet tart/candy phenos in your underdawg offspring but what about a sister line that accentuates the candy phenos but retains the underdawg potency?

Depending on how BB the BB is, the BB x Underdawgs could throw tasty phenos too. Im just one of those personally that enjoys the earthy kushy OG notes and potency but sometimes could go for some more intense/different flavors. Sweet tart and candy OGs sound awesome in my book.

I would just like to see it myself after running some of Medics outcrosses that threw super pebble/skittle kush phenos with phenomenal potency. It was good change from the norm and was definitely loved by all. Easily blew away any FPOG. Oil was like skittles...not for all but potency was crushing.

My objective in those two lines was to try to create an OGK that will finish in a more northern climate. But themselves as elite clones, they suck to grow outdoors. Mainly they dont finish in time for our climate, second they are frail and weak, one rainfall before harvest and all your branches are in the dirt. But the objective was to get OGK into an acceptable seed line, I knew inside they'd do fine no matter what, andf many offspring were run inside to test the breeding for indoors, but outdoors was the big motivation. I can just frow the mother inside if I want UD, but outside you couldnt really get her to perform well. And OGK isn't sweet, and also, most folks following my work are all expecting to find OGK phenos, not sweet phenos. And also, I personally am not a sweet ganja man, I like the dank, the stink, the must/musk/, the petrol, amonia, pinesol and pinesol cleaner, definately the skunk and earth tones of stank, stuff that you cant hide no matter how many bags you put her in. The sours and gym locker, catpiss and all the stuff that just reeks and everyone in the room knows you just walked in.

That F2 if I remember correctly was the UD crossed to an OG male that Medic had found in a bud of what he clled some seriously dank OG. Supposedly was an s1 and was the only bean. Thats about all I know. I did that pollination and then grew out some of them to see what we had. There were some nice phenos in there and I know others that found nice plants, but I didnt like the structure and frailty of most the plants I saw. I knew I could find a better way to accomplish my goals, I knew Id have to outcross her just to help invigorate her, and then I knew it would be work to weed out all the sweet phenos, but I figured it would just naturally happen over time if I kept making large size selection choices and always choose the best of the OGK phenos.
