As for the airpump the bubbles explode under the roots soo it doesnt really matter what temp the water is.yes colder will have more o2 but colder will stunt the plant i think anything under 24c will have a negative impact on her.and 30c will be a nice place for pathogens to live in but you add shit to prevent that soo that should not be a problem.

you prefer just buying the ali express ones for a grow, than rinse and repeat? Or do you use something somewhere in-between the 2?

I started by using hydro. It was a lot to learn and implement, and buy but it really helped me to learn to help the plant, in the long run. I have since switched to organic soil, for about 6 years now, but I don't regret starting the hydro way. It definitely was expensive and I learned a ton and even grew food in the same manner, along with the Kratky Method. I didn't care for the food grown hydro and very much prefer the flavor and terpes that come from soil more. Plus I learned that I didn't need ec meters and ph meters and ph up or down or any of that with organics. All of the things you need for hydro are only because the soil web is missing and you need to use other methods to recreate what the plant needs. But once you do, you can grow some amazing stuff. However the trade off of shedding all the extras and just letting the plant and soil do their thing, is priceless. After a while you realize what the plant really wants, is the soil web and rhizosphere. But being a mad scientist creating good weed, was fun for a while :)

I've been growing for a long time and have grown in almost every different way you can and I still came back to soil. Probably, much like everyone else, I had heard that hydro was the best, cleanest way to grow weed so I dove in on my first grow running wool blocks. Learned a lot but was in way over my head. Limped it to the finish and got a bunch of airy small buds.

Is soil slower? Yes. It has the slowest oxygen exchange rate of all the other methods. Aquaponics has the highest.

Is hydro more complicated and can more shit go wrong fast? Absolutely.

Is there a taste and quality difference? IMO, yes but that is subjective to me. Some may taste no difference.

If you have the time and inclination then water culture may be for you but in all hydro disciplines you are responsible for every aspect of your plants health. Soil eliminates a lot of that.

So the ggt hydro setup i was looking at is a 6-5gal bucket, 35gal reservoir. I noticed there's a DIY kit from pa hydroponics follponics that has 4-13gal buckets and a 13gal res. the pa system has a 400 gph pump compared to the 250gph gorilla. pa is also $300 cheaper, much assembly acquired lol. Any thoughts?
I am also a first time grower (1st grow in over 40 years) and first time hydro grower. I purchased the 4-13 gallon bucket kit from PA Hydroponics and love it. So glad I jumped into the pool head first off the bat.
Any questions ask.

Pumps are not too loud, but chiller is. Need to have a chiller to keep the temps down in the water. too warm and roots will rot.

109 days after turning on the lights on day #1. The foxtailing is my bad. Lights and tent temp too high. But growth in RDWC is not a joke. Hope you don't mind the pics. Had to show you what the PA Hydro kit is capable of despite my ignorance.

Nice! I was initially looking at the gorilla 5x5 hydro kit, and have since decided against it. Wasn't really feeling the 6-site or the kind in that kit. I'm extremely interested on how ur experience of doing the DIY version was. Just have to get ur own pvc and drill the holes, and save like $275 i believe? I was looking at the 13gal , 4-site version. I plan on getting the gorilla 5x5, gorilla clone/seedling tent, AC 6" inline w filter, 2 AC S6 circulation fans( maybe more?) AC controller 69, and a mammoth mint 8 led. Oh, and of course ph, ppm, nutes, and medium. I'm still debating on which way to go w on the nutes. There's the tomato one I haven't searched yet, HWGrow recipe, and Jacks that I have been considering.

The community support/knowledge here has been invaluable! Lots of ppl coming forth with good information! Thanks for chiming in! Any info or opinions r appreciated :) Pics r always nice as well!
Yeah the diy version I had to get the PVC as well as drill the holes. I work with hand tools in my 9-5 so it wasn't something I wasn't comfortable with. Also it let me put the res where I wanted.

I've been piecing my shit together for almost a year. I did a soil grow after I had my environment up so I could save and get my hydro kit. I'm just starting my first hydro run and I'm not gonna lie I'm sorta nervous about fucking up ALL my plants which I didn't have to worry about in soil....well I was in coco actually.

Yeah my chiller is loud AF.

Yes. Way too annoying imo.
I agree 100% with @AZreefer. The chiller, fans, etc. in my opinion are way too loud for someone who is wanting to sleep in the same room. Too loud by far, along with too humid. Soil might be a better option with a small 2X4 tent?

I definitely would not be sleeping in my lung room, I think you're trying to over do the size for the space you have available, you're gonna have a hot and humid room. A smaller tent and set up would be much more manageable. The minimum footprint of a 5x5 tent and the PA fallponics is 83"x60" and that is giving you access to only the front of your tent. I think you'd be doing yourself a favor doing a 2x4 tent and a 2 site system. The pictures are of my set up, if you want room to access your plants and be a little comfy, there's no way you could do this in your bedroom unless it's absolutely massive.

Thats a sick setup, really wish i had a room like that lol im just using a spare bedroom and a 2x2x4 tent 😅 and youre completely right about the heat and humidity in the room. My lung room is definitely too warm and uncomfortable to sleep in now with everything i have in there

I decided to roll the dice. Bedroom is 125"x200" Decided to "partition" it w a 90% non-light permitting dark, ceiling to floor curtain w a 80"x100" area. Said curtain also is %25 heat block, %25 noise reduction. Exhaust the tent directly out a window. My biggest drawback, not having a water source directly into that area. I actually prefer white noise like fans, water flowing... hot... most definitely not lol I can always just get a futon for the living room if need be. Best wishes to me lol. I'll make sure to update w progress of setup along w the ultimate failure or success!

Temp differential won't be that big a deal. You should be comfortable as far as temp and humidity. It's the noise of fans and water that may be a problem but you said you like white noise so think of it as a new aquarium you put in your bedroom!🦑

If you can configure it in your bedroom, setup an area where you can get water on the floor without issue. Not a flood but if some sloshes out of a bucket it won't be a big deal. I used a 30 gal bin I bought at Wal Mart for a reservoir. Maybe you can use something like that to keep your nute mix until you need to use it. Put some 6 mil plastic under it so that any spills will be contained?

This is why I come to these forums. I've heard ppl using 55gl drums for such, that luxury I don't think is in my cards. I do plan on keeping on a res w/ nutes for my res. Haven't figured that out yet.
Thanks boss for all ur help and insight

If you're going with the PA fallponics system you will need about 46 gallons of nute solution to fill your system. I wouldn't recommend mixing in the system either so you're going to want something larger than 46 to mix in.
