Update 6-15

It's Saturday and time for the weekly measurables.

I can't believe no change.
20190615 183203

But the tape don't lie.

If I thought that was weird this one is a head scratcher. -2"?
20190615 183141

Very strange, although I've never measured them weekly before I find it hard to believe it shrunk 2".

Pollinated and in the sun, +2".
20190615 183059

Even though that one with the 15" cola is looking good this one is the most important to me being full of seeds.

Little sativa male in the ground +4.
20190615 183249

I expect at least 4-5" per week.

Female Indica in the ground +5".
20190615 183241

Helping me forget about her sister's run in with the gopher.

Cilantro flowering.
20190615 183425

Oregano flowering.
20190615 183435

Thyme flowering.
20190615 183520

Flowers everywhere.

Tomorrow we try the chicken manure tea. Happy Growing!

Couple weeks later, healthy but no huge growth. Lighter green (N?). Some tip curl but seems to handle all the rain we’ve had.
Growing very well. Yeah, that yellowing is a bit surprising. Maybe add a little blood meal? I haven't given mine anything but water but it's still very young. I'll be watching for it.

I really like it as a soil. Easy to wet and holds it well. And as an additive 50/50 with soil and composted table scraps it's really producing.
20190615 230927

I didn't plant that pumpkin or those tomatoes. Pretty amazing results.

Update 6-16

Chicken manure tea.
20190616 154147

This shit is hot. Looks hot, smells hot. I used 12 oz with rain water to make a gallon.

The Sunflowers.
20190616 160644

I chose the tall thin one on the right. While it's taller it's much thinner. I hope to beef it up before the flower opens.

Tomatoes.
20190616 160203

Cherries. The little one.

The cannabis.
20190616 155917

Male sativa leaner. I don't have a comparable plant as a control. I really don't need this male. After 4" growth last week we'll see if we can get 5+.

The horse manure baby.
20190616 094749

I'll be transplanting into a 5 gal pot this week of again, nothing but composted horse manure. Just been getting tap and rain water and sprayed with aspirin water. I doubt I'll have to feed it much and haven't had to water it as much.

Frostiness, day 40.
20190616 094830

Another 35 +/- days to go. It's time to start putting her in the garage at night and bring her out about 8am. That will give her a 12/12 and I'll change it to 9am in a couple of weeks. I WANT SUMMER BUD!

Sunflower.
20190616 094725

Pumpkin flower.
20190616 094413

Onion flowers.
20190615 183536

If you think I like flowers you'd be correct.

I'll update the chicken manure tea test if there are any changes or once a week, whichever comes first.

Until next time, Happy Growing!

Yep chicken shit is incredibly hot stuff but the combo of it mixed with the used cedar shavings I used to use as bedding made for some of the best compost I’ve ever made. I was fighting off marauding blackberry shrubs to lay claim to my compost bin regularly lol

I love blackberries and would love to have that problem. My soil and water are too alkaline for berries. While I can amend the soil I'm not buying water or an RO filter and I'm down to my last 8 gal of rain water.

Had a opossum early one morning on the patio and a ground squirrel a few days ago which reminded me I have to cage the plants. I'll add another layer of chicken wire to protect this one and hope I replaced the chicken wire underneath this past spring. A few needed it but I didn't do them all and lost 2 plants in 2 weeks. So far she's still standing and would hate to lose her.

Update 6-19

Horse manure seedling got a new pot.
20190619 093713

I haven't watered her since last weekend and she was still pretty WET.
20190619 092112

Day 43 of flower.
20190619 093747

Another 4-5 weeks. It's been overcast all week so I haven't had to move her into the garage at night.

All 9 clones from the gopher plant are doing well and will find permanent homes this weekend.
20190619 111322

These 3 were iffy but looking good the past few days.
20190619 111330

These are a pain to remove the covers and put them back on due to the tight fit but I can see all are doing well.

The new little ones are diggin' their new digs.
20190619 111211

They got their first watering yesterday with dirty goldfish water.

Chicken manure tea plant looks fine and is growing.
20190619 111240

I'll feed all the test plants again on Sunday.

Pollinated outside girl is showing a little yellowing on a few leaves.
20190619 111204

I haven't been feeding just a handful of wood ash and tap water. Gave her some tea yesterday. Not to worried as I could take her down anytime and collect seeds but more is better and I'd like some good smoke to go with.

Caged like an animal.
20190619 111232

I catch that gopher and I'm gonna skin it and make a hat band.

The top on my little greenhouse is splitting.
20190619 113322

Time to move the big one into the backyard.

I'm planning on growing giant pumpkins again this year for sale in Oct.
20190618 112536

This little one in a compost box reminds me I have to start the seeds this week. Last time I grew them there were 5' a round. Can't find any pics but know I've got some somewhere.

Time to harvest my first sunflower of the year.
20190618 100708

Wish I had dill growing so I could soak them. Such is life.

All for now. Until next time, Happy Growing!

Bates Nut Farm, about 10 miles away sell them this size between $125-200 each. I get $50, easy. I'll be planting 2 dozen seeds and grow them in the front yard. Should be interesting. Wonder if we'll make the cover of Good Housekeeping?

Jeeez they look crazy
These were grown in my hard clay soil with no protection. Gophers own the front yard so this is going to be a challenge. Maybe in a bale of straw with chicken wire underneath. Still thinking about it. Seeds should pop within a week so I gotta figure it out by the weekend so it's ready.

I have to fight aphids on corn and didn't plant any this year. Folks had a garden and granny grew roses. I started by 10 at home and had a garden in 5th grade at school. Always came easy. Grew 25lb watermelons a few years ago. They take lots of water, pumpkins too. California charges us an arm and a leg for water these days so I have to space them out to every few years.

Paid a visit to clients who give us the horse manure.
20190620 130624

Cool place. This is several hundred yards down a hill from the main house.

They even have an arena.
20190620 130612

They have 7 horses. I have to install a 2" pressure regulator tomorrow so I'll get some picks of the horses. Beautiful animals.

You know I got a few bags.
20190620 204136

I'll get more tomorrow with more room as it will be an all day job so I won't have to carry everything.

Gotta share this.
20190620 193638

Velvet Queen sunflowers. There's a flower stock at every leaf stem. 2 dozen flowers per plant.
20190620 193633

I've got 3 of them so 70+ flowers. I'm sure some will be small but who cares.
