Yeah, don't think so about the Am made... instructions are even printed in China + the shipping box they come from are all in Chinese (customs/forms). It's not in front of me right now, but pretty sure they even say made in china on them. The hype is better sourced components however...?

Have had a few running for about a month now... par measurements are pretty close to my c&c's (not cheapo's for the comparison). Don't really see that much difference, if at all, as the meter is pretty sensitive to even a few degrees difference in how you tilt/orient it to the light. Overall, pretty comparable.

Hottest points on the ballasts are also comparable... 140F +/-. The also burn the bulbs differently... more on the orange hue vs c&c's appear more "balanced". This is for both new Ushio & Hortilux bulbs. We'll see how the overall lumen maintenance is after a few more months.

Never bought into any of the bs advertising associated w digi's, but thought the time might be good enough w the Quantums. Thus far, no issues & seems to be quality. Peace.

Yeah, I noticed that as well on the Hortilux... definitely isolated it to the bulb itself. It sometimes (not always) has a very high pitch humming that is not coming from my c&c powered bulb. Forgot to mention this. I'm also waiting to see how the actual bulb life & lumen maintenance goes in comparison. I feel they are driving the bulb "harder", but that is not backed by any data/measurements. Peace.

that high pitch could be from running a neutral wire

How do you mean md? I'm thinking you're referring to using a 14/3 cord vs a 14/2 where one wire is not utilized...? peace.

I think we're using the wrong lamps (60hz?) with our e-ballasts. Mine is an Eiko and it was very inexpensive.

I have been reading a lot and it seems a neutral wire can be a problem with 240v and e-ballasts, harmonics or whatever with the extra wire getting in the way... corona or some shit. :icon_dizzy:

Just wanted to thank all you farmers on the info about the quantum's. Been thinking of giving them a try and this thread helps out a bunch. Do most of you have the 6oo's ? Didnt see to many with the 1000's and how loud are we talking with that fan noise?

I`ve got a 1000 iconoclast and IMO it`s very quiet.
Best of luck
Eggman

Agreed... not very loud. You hear it no doubt, but if your running a scrubber in the same room, very hard to hear the ballast. Or if your running any other fans, they drown out the ballast.

imho, the best of digi's available. peace.

ive been waiting for 6 months to see some info from other growers on this issue, i too have a quantum 1000, i loved it up untill the point the cable company knocked on my door to tell me there was interference coming from my apartment( ohhshit!!) offcoarse i panicked, returned to seller whom exchanged with no problems. after doing this for 2 more exchanges he tested all the 1s in his shop to find that they all did thie same thing( turned am radio on to here if there was any squeeling, interference)then returned to ,manufacturing. after 3 months of waiting to here bacl from local shop finally i was told that it was due to the cord that runs from ballast to bulb, sooo, he then switched with another 1 that is wrapped internally with a thin metal to stop interference. so now here i am with a new 1000watt quantum and a hortilux bulb that ive waited for along time now for, that is suppose to block all ifr signals. but waddya know still causing interference!!! i am so bumed about this, i dont know what else to do? other than return to store and stick with magnetic. any help would be great guys.

Thanks for the help Eggman and GroHi. I think Ill be going with the Quantum if I find where they sell them around by area. OG4UMe wish I could help, but I thought the so called interference was a thing of the past with digi ballasts ? If not, good thing Im in a house and the neighbours are far enough away.

Great post OG... they tag the ballasts as FCC compliant, which would mean no RF interference per code. Great. It seems that they are referring to the ballast housing only. If the issue is actually within the cord set, does it transfer to the socket and/or bulb...? I see that you can shield a cord set, but what about the rest? I ask this out of ignorance because I still don't get the harmonics off my cord set & how that causes my bulbs to hum.

Several other threads on RF blocking OG... but that seems to be shielding the room proper, not the electronics itself. Unless you need to the dial down function and are really tied to convenience factor, then why not just run the c&c's? I can't escape this conclusion. Peace.

How did they find out its coming from your house.? Mine will be out side about 50 feet from my house and other peoples houses do you think I will have a problem messing with say my modem etc etc.? I dont need the cable company coming to my house telling me something is doing it from my house.. So...50...75 feet will it mess with modems.?

I use Quantum 1k ballasts and the have performed excellent.. About to buy a few more...

KBK

anybody know where i can find a quantum 1k for cheap.thnx

anyone know where I can get a quantum for free, garden of dreams, get at me.:)

Just kiddiding, GOD,
:D

all joking aside though,Quantum makes the best products on the market(IMHO).

While out of town over Christmas heater crapped out, water pipe froze quite the disaster:D

Only thing that still works are my quantum products/
lumatek, gallaxy and hidhut all fried.
