so I think you are right on track with the air gap

you def can drownd your plants in hydro
there has to be a gap in order for the roots to get oxygen
even though you oxygenate the water
the real oxygen comes from the gap left inbetween
in coco or better yet rockwool
there are small air gaps in the media that allows oxygen
in things like soil it is easy to kill plants by
by drowning because the airgaps are easily filled with water
but coco and rockwool hold about 20-30% oxygen at full saturation
but if your roots are sitting in water with no oxygen hitting the roots the plant will go byby fast

Just got my meningitis shot yesterday. And cripples are more capable of mind blowing positions than regular limbed folk. I mean what. Wait. What are we talking about.

Btw... now that I pulled the plants out of the system and I don't have to worry about eating my words I can now share something. I never used hydrogaurd, uc roots or anything from sterilization. No bleach and no pool shock. Absolutely nothing... roots were amazingly white when I pulled them tonight!
Always had Temps under 70 till this last week... one of the reasons I decided to harvest tonight. .. was worried my luck was running out :)
