Flocculation is when the suspension or emulsion clumps together and comes out of suspension. :)

just my two cents here: I've always had good luck with soap sprays....combined either with hot peppers and/or garlic. Lots of recipes out there too. I don't think too many creatures like garlic. To eliminate any possibilities of plant damage from the solution I spray it on super-heavy, let it sit and soak about an hour or so and rinse it off. Repeat a few times a day and watch. OTOH I have never had to battle russet mites.

Diatamaceous Earth may be an option as well...although I'd do more research before using it in this situation. (Amorphous silica in DE is considered to be low toxicity, but prolonged inhalation causes changes to the lungs.[24] Diatomaceous earth is mostly amorphous silica, but contains some crystalline silica, especially in the saltwater forms.[25] In a study of workers, those exposed to natural DE for over 5 years had no significant lung changes, while 40% of those exposed to the calcined form had developedpneumoconiosis.[26] Today's common D.E. formulations are safer to use as they are predominantly made up of amorphous silica and contain little or no crystalline silica.[27]) from Wiki, for what it's worth.

other farmers will have some idea how I did it.

I have been researching this subject in depth for a few days now and doing more study of my plants. I am not convinced that I have both russets and broads but now think I have the russets and what I saw previously and might have misidentified were actually predator mites on the russets. My garden is organic. I grow my own veggies organically as well as the fruit orchards, herbs, cannabis, and have in this homestead for over 20 years. I make my own teas and fertilizers from our farm raised redworms and livestock/poultry. I have an ecosystem developed that works really well most of the time. Sometimes I have to intervene but it is with balancing the system in mind when I do so. In my canna garden I have observed numerous minute pirate bugs, lacewings, ladybugs, and birds. Minute Pirates are all over the infested plants now. The beneficials usually do all the work for me unless there is an outbreak of proportions they can't handle, as is the case now. I also supply some people with compromised immune systems who are battling cancer and other afflictions. Therefore, using chems is not an option for me. Because of this ecosystem I think/hope I will survive this infestation. (Fingers crossed and on my knees asking the Universe to spare me!)

So, my plan of attack is still as stated before, I will use the Nuke Em and Biowar as soon as they arrive, hopefully today. Already started brewing some EWC tea for the Biowar. I will probably lose a good many beneficials but am not certain if that stuff will kill them too or not. I also do not plan to remove the most infested plant YET. This could be a mistake but I am going on my experience with trap crops in the veggie garden. I will often leave an infested plant because bad bugs flock to weak plants. This helps keep the evils off the healthier plants and makes it easier to do battle and the predators can handle what's on the healthy plants. As I said, this may or may not be a mistake in this situation. I have never gone to war with russets before. I still plan to use the Nuke and Biowar on the healthy plants though. Everything will get hit. Take no prisoners! LOL!

After the initial assault with those products, I plan to use the predators Amblyseius andersoni and Amblyseius swirskii. I first have to find out if these two are compatible so may end up using just the swirskii if they are not. I read an abstract that showed swirskii eats all stages of russets including eggs - they also eat broads.

My question to the OP, cgken, and the mods: Would it be appropriate for me to post my pics and experiences on this war here on this thread? Seems silly to start my own since we are battling the same beast but I will respectfully defer to the op and mods on this. I don't want to hijack someone else's thread if not appropriate. What say ye?

Oh, and I too highly recommend Evergreen Growers Supply. I have done business with them in the past and they are excellent! I got rid of an indoor fungus gnat problem with predator insects I purchased from them. Will use them again for this issue.

As soon as I saw these russet mites (in the usb scope) I went to lowes and bought an airless paint sprayer
Early the next morning july 29th,(day 1) I sprayed Aspirin (325mg per gal.) and SM90(couple cap fulls per 4gal bucket)
Then, that evening I sprayed Azamax (1.2ml per gal) and soil drenched with it and 325mg per gal aspirin too.
The plants looked better the next day! :)
Then, I waited till aug.1st (day 4) and I sprayed azamax and sm90 eraly in the morning.(it was cloudy)
On aug. 2nd, I sprayed with Caps Biowar foliar and seagreen.
On the 3rd, I suited up in tyvek, wore goggles, gloves and a respirator, Then,
I sprayed Avid and SM90
On the 4th (Day 7) I sprayed Biowar foliar and Seagreen again because they seem to like that..and they were all growing new leaves! :)
I rested on the 5th :)
Then, on aug. 6th, day 9
I sprayed Both, Avid(1.2ml per gal) and Forbidf4((1.2ml per gal) and a few caps of sm90 all at the same time
Im done with the avid now and plan to spray Forbid one more time.(with PHed water )
Then I switch to Met 52 ec , Flying Skull Nuke Em and Lavender and peppermint oils :)


the plants are improving everyday :)

Ken, don't know if I mentioned my spreader, but it is this one

"Spreader N-90:

California EPA approved spray adjuvant for fungicides, pesticides or herbicides. Economical 90% actives concentrate."

Grow more has a lot of great products though

fyi, N-90 contains iso alcohol @ 400ppm. Not good for any predator insects/ beneficials "bennies" /met52/mycotrol/ogbiowar/aact foliar as a few examples.
ez wet is grow more's alcohol free sticker spreader wetter.

Saponins are the active chemical compounds in many sticker spreader wetting agents.
Aloe Vera and Yucca Chidigera are two sources.

Aloe vera contains 75 potentially active constituents: vitamins, enzymes, minerals, sugars, lignin, saponins, salicylic acids and amino acids

Although aloe vera contains saponins at lower levels than yucca it DOES have the added benefits of salicylic acid (i.e. element of the aspirin water)

Note to all: Just do NOT ever add Yucca extract or aloe vera to the siica & neem mix as it will turn into a gel that you cannot break apart. Add whatever organic surfactant you're using after you've completed the initial mixing.

Thank you much @leadsled , I was not aware. I use this product mostly because many years ago I bought a few cases of it and still have some on hand. I will look into the rest of what you said.

but I read SM90 was one :confused:
I like the idea of adding some silica to make the plants strong.
So I will get that..to use with the essential oils :)
Do I need a spreader with Flying skull nuke em?

I could have sworn i read Met52ec had a spreader already in it..but I cant find that [email protected] know you added a spreader..
Will silica help spread the Met52?

I honestly do not know, But I will look into it for you. I use grow more potassium silicate as a regular regimen, and it is most cost effective to spray it.

yeah, I was too, but at the amount in the aloe, plus the dilution you will use it at, it comes out to something like .00001 % by volume probably.

I am really happy for your dago and you! She loos happy !
