I'm feelin' the Swedish. Last week we got a used Volvo sedan, and the more I drive this well-cared-for, well-loved car, the more *I* love it. Who knew you could get a luxury sport sedan for such a good price? I won't say what we paid, but it was extremely reasonable. I don't think I have ever loved a car quite like I love this car!
1999 Volvo S80 T6. I. Fucking. Love. This. Car!
Where would I start, though? It was the body and styling that always catches my eye. I won't tell tales, I've always liked Volvos, especially these later models. I had an uncle in Puerto Rico who always had Volvos and I always enjoyed the ride, they felt secure, not bumpy, quiet cabin, roomy and very comfortable. On these mountain roads, though? The handling is.. it's unreal, it is so superb, I have never experienced anything like it. Even needing new tires, the car magically sticks to the road, even when I feel I'm pushing the boundaries. I hit 90mph on the freeway! I never do that! I scared myself.
Someone put this car up for sale alongside the main highway in our little town. When I saw it, I pointed and told Dave, "Oh! You would totally see your wife driving that car."
He sniffed, "I don't like Volvos. I test drove a Volvo once."
"Yes, I know, and you ended up with a Taurus. I like Volvos. That's a nice car, and I would happily drive it."
Couple days later, similar conversation. "I really like that car."

"Yes, I know. You ended up with a Taurus. I had an uncle in Puerto Rico who always had Volvos and I like them, a lot. I would totally drive that car <pointing at the Volvo>."
Couple days later, I get a call from Dave.
"Wanna go test drive that Volvo?"
<silence....> "What? Seriously??"
Conversation ensued, the price was nothing like what either of us expected, so I started researching it. Found horrible reviews on the car, but after reading a lot on it, I learned that there are those golden nuggets that just go and go and go. I met Dave and the seller at the car fully prepared to hate it.
Let's just say that after test driving it... I couldn't resist it and asked if we could do it. As a replacement for the fucking Jeep, which I hate and have hated for a LONG time? This just completely RAWKS! Funny thing is, Blue book on the Jeep is pretty much the same as for this Volvo. Insurance is going to cost us $12/yr more than the Jeep, fuel will cost us about a quarter less even though it uses premium or mid-grade (for keeping the motor, I'll stick with premium), and the repairs will be well worth Dave's time, unlike with the Jeep.
I don't understand the demand for Jeeps, but there ya go. Me? I'm feelin' the Swedish. :D
