Yeah the soil pen you can do both. Check the soil directly and any liquid. I find the best readings are when the soil is wet so it’s basicslly like doing a slurry test without the hassle.

Since that happened to you I’m doing that as well. The odd thing is my pen no longer calibrates to 4 using the solution. It’ll calibrate to 7 just fine but when it stores the calibration for 4 it says “err”. Seems to work fine otherwise though and when I test the 4.01 solution it comes down to 4.0 just fine. It just won’t store the calibration for it.

I haven't had mine long, but after reading some horror stories, I have been periodically testing the 4.0 solution to make sure it's calibrated correctly. I didn't have the bluelab storage solution, so I have been using general hydroponics. It is storage solution and 4.0 calibration. So I put it in my little cap sponge. I will leave the pen on when I put the cap on and watch it drop to 4.0. It lets me know it's working correctly, and that the little sponge in there is still moist.

A little bit but not bad. Logic actually sold me on it originally. It was $130 vs $79 so it was a little more but not bad. I was thinking of another soil ph meter and he told me it was junk and had me buy this one. I bought a used one off amazon originally and he made me cancel it and reorder a new one. I’m glad I did tho.

Thanks, yea it's really fucking good, but still got a little grass smell to it. I chopped a branch a few days ago. This plant doesn't have a strong smell. The other one is very strong tho. It smells like burnt rubber and fruit, or something like that lol. This one is just a little fruity right now.

Yeah it’ll do that until it’s fully dried out. Once it’s dried the natural scent and flavor will come out. It’s like wet socks. They stink when wet but don’t smell when dry.
