@tags420 I wasn't actually taking that out of context...your personality type is that of you only divulge information when your ego is inflamed as when you are calm you tend to think you are better then others....I am researching what type LED to get as I am going that route for my indoor as my outdoor 1billion watt sun does a phenomenal job of light production...but the way to pick your brain is to get you frustrated and only then do you come forward with healthy information....sorry to get you flustered....

In any case...what is your opinion on the Spectrum King...say as apposed to the other consumer/commercial grade LEDs

im curious to what you guys have spent building your own panels.im talking to those last few posts with pics where it looks like the panel is 4x4 maybe and the plants are 2-3feet tall.

I've followed Realstyles, Supra, Seaslug, Toaster & some of the other lighting guys, so I have an idea of how I can answer you.

Toaster, iirc, spent $700 on a 6 or 7 light panel? This did not include labor, or small parts like solder, heat shrink, hangers for the finished product etc.

However, the output of the thing is incredible. Plants grow like they are under HPS. I like the Spectrum King, I genuinely do. But after learning what is inside it. If you are a diy-er, you can build one for much less.

$700 for an LED that will kill a 4x4 is a smash deal. You just gotta be willing to put in the work.

For what it's worth, I've asked Realstyles questions in private conversations & he has been very helpful. Maybe the best way to get information from him is to as him privately, instead of piss him off publicly. (I don't know, I haven't tried the latter yet ;)

why ,do you think my last question was to piss these guys off? its an honest question because im trying to see how big these panels are and what kind of space they cover vs how big there plants are.my plants are almost always 5 x 5 x 5 and the mars 2 i just picked up was 700.00 and from what i see it seems to cover a 5x5 real well.it just looks like some or most of the plants posted so far are about 24 inches tall so i asked lol. but i thought one of the major benefits of led was the wider mixed spectrum to mimic more like a sun spectrum.but i see these guys building single or dual spectrum panels.why not just use a gavita then ?

I was confused, & I realized I replied to the wrong post. You'll see a couple posts up there was someone who was saying they were intentionally being antagonistic to get an answer.

My apologies, what I said was not intended towards you.

I can talk about a couple things, being a Mars 1200 owner in a 4x4 tent.

Did you get the Mars 1600. It will cover a 5x5 but the outsides are not going to do too well. What I notice with the Mars is that in order to get intense growth, it wants to be close to the source. But then, when you do that, you are only hitting like an 18"2 area. The 12o0 is supposed to cover 54"2 area at 24" away. I figure, my tent is only 48"2, so I can lower the light to 18." But no matter how I position it the sides & corners just aren't getting hit with enough light. It may be sending light there, but it's not very strong. For flowering, I supplement light in the corners. It just won't fill out a scrog without it. I don't know the 1600 coverage area (if that is what you got).

I'm not a spectrum expert, but these lights that Toaster, Realstyles, Seaslug, Supra are making are intense. (I'm copying their design and building one) I mean, it's more intense than HID, with several point sources, coverage area, penetration & numbers. It's insanely powerful lighting, that just happens to be very efficient. But it is intense.

The spectrum thing I think is based on the plant achieving maximum photosynthesis at 3k, no matter what stage of life they are in. People often change the spectrums from like 6500 for veg to 2700 for flower, but people who have run single spectrum in the 3k area, are achieving amazing results. But some of the diy ones (toasters iirc) he added blues & reds in whatever spectrum he wanted.

In short, being a Mars 2 user, & having seen some of these new LED lights using the 3590's, which is what I believe is what is in the SK400 (someone will correct me if I'm wrong)

The Mars 1600 (again, an assumption) is just not in the same league. I wish it was brother, I paid quite a bit for it. Once I finish my new light, I will relegate the other one to veg duty. In my opinion it does that just fine.

After talking with a couple of the people who are "in the know," don't buy the SK400. It's impressive, I can tell you that first hand. I've actually never seen plants grow that vigorously. But you could build it for less. Or pay someone else to build it, hell I'm building mine, I could just do two while I'm at it.

well if i built my own i would have to account for another 200-300 for my time spent doing it plus i would want it all incased in steel like production lights are so i can sleep at night knowing it wont burn my shit to the ground lol.that is why i went ahead i paid for one,i been following alot of led topics around the net i just dont see that much better from the diy panels so far although some of @tags420 pics do look impressive its hard to tell the size of an individual plant the way these guys are posting pics so i figured i should just ask.if i lay on my back and take pics of my plants looking up they appear to be about 10 feet tall lmao.
yeah @Junk bro,i run my 600 and 750 hps at less than 20 in from my tops so i have no problem running this led at 12 to 18 in,and it does seem to light up a decent size space at 65 inches off the ground so we shall see here in another 3 to 4 weeks i guess.but so far im diggin it for the money and no hasle plug n play.peace

The steel in my opinion is a bad idea. I don't want to encase my leds in heat. So long as you build the panel properly (not terribly hard) you don't have to worry about it burning up. I trust my build quality over Mars. & I'm not bashing Mars. I use their light & am satisfied that I got what I paid for. It does a pretty good job. I pulled close to a lb off a White Widow I grew with it, (eh, 13oz, so I guess rounding up to a lb is a little much lol) but it was the only plant in the tent. I didn't have to worry about getting light to other areas.

If you run that light 12"-18" from the tops you won't be covering the 5x5 area (if we are talking about the 1600) You will get really good growth in about a 30" circle. I'm estimating these numbers on the fly because I have the smaller light, & smaller tent. But like I said, if you want your edges to keep up in flower in a scrog, you will have to run supplemental lighting. I use 4 125w cfls. With that, the Mars will certainly get the job done. But we just added 500w of light.

You would have to account for the extra time. Time = Money.

I understand paying for one. I'd like to see more people buy retail LED's so we can get some more anecdotal evidence. Do your thing. All I'm saying is you can't compare it to the ones the aforementioned guys are building. It's a whole different level. Especially in a scrog.

But plug & play has serious appeal too.

@sixstring. Light is light once it's created. So if a led is actually supplying equal light, then penetration will be equal too. Even if spread out a bit

Some tops over 6ft. Most of canopy chin to eye level. Soil plants to the left are small. Less than 12" clearance and over 700µmols on the outskirts.

They are great. The only commercial panel I recommend. Expensive...but they work like they are supposed to.

So maybe you should pull out that hps and put the apache in there ,do us a lil side by side with yours vs their's type gig?

How big was the hps lamp I n the side by side?

Oh i was just thinking you could do a side by side with your diy led vs the apache led.i pretty much just blurt out my thoughts when im high,which is mostly only when my eyes are open haha.

The same influences that impact taste in leafy greens are not consistent with cannabinoids and terpenes in cannabis. I have done multiple side by sides of led and hps, using both monos, whites, white/red variations. All white combinations increase cannabinoids by 2-4% over hps, while and some red/blues combos were under hps.

You act like they are crushing anything else, or even clearly superior in anyway. HPS, MH, and CMH all have done amazing jobs at near maximizing production, potency, and bag appeal.
While every "industrial" light is producing well below the efficiency of HPS. People think sodiums are inefficient for some reason... 1.8-2+µmols/w stomps 99% of led's in the world period as well as all other tech...and no matter what they will not replace an hps with less wattage if they aren't e to equal in efficiency yet. It's just physics and plant physiology. So until they can keep up on a photon count and prove(in anyway) that they are needed to maximize potency and phenotypical expression of cannabis...I will always be going for the empirical results.

And again...my garden is pure led...and beating HID and other led's. And I paid a premium for it and always have. I don't cut any corners or downgrade my meds. Thanks
