"Free" is what I am after. I am really trying to be free in every sense of the word. And I can survive and be happy while I am disconnected from a large portion of this modern world (which I despise).

you and me both mate, you and me both... it's the thing i want most in life, to be free. but i often question what that even means? free from what? is death the ultimate freedom? ya know, it's not just society and all the traps of modern living a wanna be free from, it's freedom from suffering and pain too, but that's an intrinsic part of life, or at least mine. freedom from a broken heart, but what's the alternative - never to love in case ya get hurt? fuck that. anyway, i'm rambling.

I have a good friend who lived comfortably in a tipi in oregon for five years kolah,he regretted coming back to the ratrace.Do you have power or are you off grid completely?Love to know a little more about your setup.I have plans for a strawbale home someday,eco friendly construction is something that ive been studying for years,doesnt get more friendly than a tipi!

My 6 Bubba Shines were kicking ass, I had transplanted them in 5 gallon plastic pots filled with HF and OF and they all have pooped out. The transplants went well, no damage to roots, etc but they just stalled out on me, bigtime. Temps have been way too high in the GH ((high 90's) but my other plants are doing fine. Rh is about 25-35 in day and 60-70 at night with night temps around 40-45 F. I haven;t even topped them yet. No signs of deficiencies or bugs that I can tell. Son0fagun. Hopefully they will kick into gear. Most of my other plants are showing their sex but BubbaShine is way behind. Any thoughts?

edit: shit i looked last my above post where I re-potted them on June 1. Today is the 13th. Thats pretty long for them to be still shocky from the transplant.

I am 100% off grid on limited power. I don't need much cash to live though. I am running only about 400 watts of solar array going to two 6 volt Trojan batteries with a sweet top-of- the- line Outback controller. I run on 12volts and use a small inverter to run my laptop and radio. My lights are wired for DC. I hooked the entire system up myself (not hard at all, BUT volts will fry you if you are not careful). It's not as forgiving as AC. DC voltage contract your muscles and you can't let go if it zaps you.

Straw bale homes are sweet...R-50 insulation factor! My tipi cost about 3k and its 22 foot round and 25 foot high. Very roomy IMO. Some time I will have to start up a thread on this stuff. My cost of living is super cheap. No electric bill., no water bill, 40 bucks per month for propane in summer, about 60 in winter. 40 bucks a month for internet ( my dish is mounted on a tree) and I have good cell service (free, but I can't explain how that is, haha).I heat mostly by wood off my land. I also lucked out and got an agriculture status discount and pay about 8 bucks a year in property taxes. The tipi is fully loaded, stove, oven, fridge (all from an old camper), double sink, wood stove, small propane heater, tub and a cozy bunk. I haul in my water with a 200 gallon tank mounted on a small trailer. There is a artesian spring 4 miles from my property. It's a bit of a challenge in winter but no biggy. I plan to break my horses to pull the water tank if need be. My next big goal is to rid myself from the use of an automobile. Take a walk on the wild side!

I would definitely be subbed for a thread like that kolah,even if you dont choose to go completely off grid there are many ways to cut back,still live comfortably and be in harmony with nature.

Yeah FW, shit, you can still live in a city apartment and make changes. Take little bites and chomp away at it. Mother Earth News magazine is chock full of good stuff.

I'd like to do a separate thread on my tipi life/freedom scenario but I am sure it would piss some folks off and give them another reason to piss and moan. Many people (online and offline) have asked me to do some type of online blog and keep a running date of how I started, where I am now and the road I took in detail. The problem is I don't have enough time to become committed to it. This Freedom thing is hard work. But worth every fuckin' ounce of sweat. lol.

btw, what am I doing is nothing special. Anyone could do it and there are hundreds of books loaded with "simple living" info. It's nice to see more and more folks showing an interest, catching on and climbing on-board.

40 degree nights will slow growth down on young plants, plus the big temp swing doesn't help, the strain in question could be sensitive to the swings while other strains thrive.

Yeah Mogrow, thanks. I think the night temps should be getting a bit warmer now. I put a manual roof vent in the greenhouse yesterday to try and get daytime temps down as well. It was going in the high 90's. That's a 50 degree temp change every 12 hours or so. I plan to take some pictures of the six plants tomorrow and post them here.

Thanks for the reminder. I'll take some pics and give an update asap. I've had a few issues with my Bubba Shine. I am nursing two of them back to health (more on that later) and trying to get some good growth out of the rest. I think they could probably have used a lot more nitrogen than I fed them. I have 3 healthy (but small) females out of their 5 gallon buckets and directly planted in the GH beds. Hopefully they'll kick in before flower-time.

First off I'd like to make it clear I condsider myself a novice grower and I am still learning the ropes. Also growing outdoors at high elevation with 90-100 degree temps in the day at 50 at night could also be playing havoc with this strain. But most likely it's my noobieness that is the main factor and my inability to read the plants and make the proper adjustments. .These seeds are topnotch and I doubt I have the proper skills to give them the justice they deserve. I struggled with these a bit as I could not get them to really gain any good growth. I think on the next run I will really push the nitrogen levels up. Anyway, here's what's going on. Thats one Bubbashine in the small blue bucket. I do not transplant them in the ground until they show their sex so I am still waiting on that one to show it's "colors." It is nothing much to brag about but it is healthy, very tight internodes and should turn out OK. I waited to top these plants because the growth was so slow. But as of last week I decided to do one topping on all of them. In that white bucket (and behind it) is DJ Shorts Vanilla Moon (note the black/purple stems) and to the right is SuperSkunk that was grown form a single seed I found in a sensimilla bud. It has become my Golden Child and will easily pump out a pound.

In the middle and to the right are two Bubba Shine females in the ground. They are short and squatty and healthy. I hope the transplant will jump start these gals before they start to flower.
I am quite confident that they will produce some good buddage and they still have a long way to go. To the far left and far right are my Sensi Seeds Afghani #1. I am tieing down some branches so they fill out. I find that supercropping by tieing them down seems to be less of a shock that topping them and it really is advantageous in spreading out the plant and using up the available space. I also like giving the stems and leaves more breathing room which will allow more sunlight in and reduce moisture issues which can cause PM. I don't like leaves touching leaves...esp in my environment and I have no way to power up fans to keep things dry. I am off grid and have no power at my GH location so I rely on the wind for circulation. I do what I can with what I got. :)

In the left corner is BubbaShine and on the far right is another one. In the middle is a Afghani 1 which has been tied down and stretched. Out of six beans of Bubbashine I have 3 females and am awaiting to see the sex of the other 3 (more on that later) I make my planters appealing for me and the plants. I have some veggies mixed in as you can see corn and some squashes. I gift it with rocks, worms, little statues (geckos, etc) and try to create an environment that resembles the outdoors. I also have a few small tins of water for my beneficial bugs, (spiders and ladybugs) Again, the pics are nothing to brag about...but still nice nonetheless. Often I sit it here, sip a beer, smoke my pipe and enjoy the company and the connection with the pleasant vibes that radiate from it all. Only us growers would understand the passion of just being around these amazing plants, watching them grow day by day, caring for them like good parents and then enjoying the harvest.
