Tahoe Alien

Just got done pulling the Bubba. Man, I love taking it out in the sun to take a good look for the first time......the colors that this plant produces is amazing. It just never gets old.... Nice work on the Bubba, BirdDog.

I'm afraid I have to interupt the Alien stud male conversation temporarily, and instead show some bud porn! The Green Crack is coming down, I snapped a couple pics while the sun was still out. I'll post more after the harvest is done....

Hmmm.....I'd say it's earthy, rich and balanced. It has a flavor that needs a name, very hard to explain, just like OG. Def on of my favorites. There is nothing like it, it has a smell and favor all it's own. I highly respect the breeders. If a nice OG is a 10, a nice Bubba is a 9.9. I would take this Bubba over a lot of good OG cuts, and I know some growers that would pick Bubba over OG period. It's one of those strains that is an endless hunt for a better version, i'm very interested in the Sledgehammer Bubba, damn...I wan't that one bad. I learned my lesson on the last auction and i'll be digging deeper in the future.

It is just a very balanced kush, I can always taste it if Bubba is in there. Very unique. I grew a new cut along side my keeper this round. There are def some straight garbage Bubba attempts out there. I picked up a couple clones in Sacramento and they sucked. If you find a nice Bubba you keep it, which is not true for all strains.

I'm going to start dusting pollen today. I rigged up some cardboard like you have and have been collecting. I'm going to use a paintbrush. How much pollen would you recommend I use per budsite?

You really don't need much on a bud site.. Just a little pinch dusted/tapped gently on the pistils will give you more than enough to play with. I just pollinates 6 girls in my tent all with clusters from 1 node.

Thanks Wbwindow! How would you suggest I collect the pollen? Any secrets to collecting the most with the least work?

Much respect for the breeders! My measly two male breeding project threw a wrench in my routine bigtime, I'm looking forward to being done with males. It's not a whole lot of work physically, but it really puts your organization and timing skills to the test. It seems hard to feel like everything is done lately, even though it is.....

Well widow is on point, but ill reiterate what I do and how i collect . First you wanna get a small glass jar and scrap the pollen with a clean razor into the jar, be sure to put the lid on as you don't want any to blow on your girls by mistake. Then take the plant or plants you wanna pollinate out of grow area (usually about three weeks into flowering) is a good time to pollinate to get viable seeds on a 56-63 day strain. Now get a qtip and isolate a limb that you wanna pollinate. Mark it with something (I use a twist tie , some use bags to cover the limb but its not really nec as long as you are careful. Then you wanna dip the qtip in the pollen and dab the limb with the pollen just a little is fine act like your painting the limb(make sure your not near any fans and shut the fans down in your grow) after the limb is pollinated spray it down with a water bottle let it dry put back in room and make sure it is dry before turning the fans back on. The last limb i did - I got 77 nice tiger stripped seeds , they say you should wait at least three months to germ them but i germed 15 a month later and all germinated. Hope that helps .... thanks for the info on the bubba guess i got get a good cut and see what the fuss is about .....peace soser

One more thing after your done make sure to shower and change clothes before entering the room again.... really not that hard is a little routine breaking but you will get great satisfaction when you collect your seeds from the limb knowing you just made a strain , then the fun begin's to see if its a good strain .... I only dream about the day I can do this freely without having to worry about my door's getting kicked in .....

I can only imagine, even in Cali it's pretty sketch. The entire issue is political and there are very few "set in stone" rules to follow. I dream of growing in Colorado lol. Thanks for the details on pollen, that makes it pretty clear.

Another thing that I wrote down in my grow journal that I wanted to share with yall is that the quick drop in temperature outside stunted my Bubbas. I know some of you looked at those pics and thought they looked green. Obviously it was the lights off room temps because the room is sealed. We had a mega-swing and it went from 80 to 55 at night within 2 weeks. I didn't think it would be a big deal but looking back I should have set a heater to stabilize the swing. I let it go 4 days longer than normal and it still looked a bit green. Just FYI

What up BD! Super cool thread brother!! Really diggin your style and strain selections... Green Crack is staple of mine as well. i think you nailed it at 60/40, best of both worlds grows sativa buds on an indica structured plant that stacks and finishes QUICK. That bubba looks amazing too dude! I Have some TA beans on ice but you are inspiring me to pop them. Check out my BirdDog Floyd on point for a Trout! Take care brother, keep up the good work!

I cut the tops off the males (like you're taking extra long clones) and put 'em in a glass of water and place it on top of wax paper. After they sit in the water for a couple/few days I take 'em out of the water and give 'em a couple taps over the collection area. It's easy to collect the pollen off the wax paper or to just keep it on the paper and fold it up for storage. When I store it I'll fold up the wax paper, put it in a labeled plastic bag with a little rice in it, throw that in tupperware and into the freezer. I've stored pollen this way for 6 months to a year without any issues. Also I prefer using a little paint brush over the q tip method. Seems like too much pollen gets tangled up in the cotton and they get gummed up quick.

What up Ken! I just dusted the first of the girls today. I have a batch of Girlscout cookies that is 3 weeks out and the males just started dropping polen so I dusted some. I'm collecting a bunch of pollen and going to hit the main room in a couple days. Thanks for dropping by!

Big update with new pics tomorrow! The Aliens are looking real nice. They have that angry, aggressive stance with leaves reaching out as far as they can towards the light.

See yall then,

BD

Perfect! Are both those cups full of branches from the same male? I'm assuming they are.

One cup is Tahoe Alien, one is ARC. The table is in a room with little air movement but now you mentioned it, I'll separate them in different rooms.. The males are still alive outside, those are just some of the tops so I have plenty more to play with. About how long will a male live and keep producing pollen? I'm assuming until all of the pods have dropped off?

Thanks for the help Delae, very much appreciated!
