forgot to add about the elantra, I fully dynamatted the entire car. I removed all seats, headliner, floor carpet, all door panels, trunk liner, hatch panel, everything got gutted. put 2+ rolls of material, spent 5 days working and 4 days nursing a pulled out back. lol

I barely heard and outside noise, and while I had my radio bumping, barely NO noise outside my car and NO F'n rattle.

this is my big block pickup...full tube chassis and dyno'd at 900 at the flexplate...

How big of a shot are you flowing into that thing? I'm assuming it's a wet shot too, yes?

wet is an understatement...2 fuel systems keep him happy...my buddy is into nos and made me a multi bar set up...we got right at 400 hp with the fogger but had to run fuel to achieve those numbers...

off roading with the great lakes 4x4 club with the Dakota quad cab that out performs hummer h3t who got pulled out 25 times that day, and me only 3x. they had lockers and all the works, me, just plain ole dodge 4x4 and 31" nitto terra grappplers. :)

Those hummers are a joke. You ever see the inside of an original one? Leather seats, nice factory stereo/cd player...I forget exactly what other details, but I remember seeing it & thinking, "Wow, this is all business outside, but a cadillac inside!" Unless it's the original, they really don't appeal to me.

But those tires helped you a lot. I've only driven them once but they were absolutely amazing! I can't believe you got 65k out of them. Usually the better the tire in winter, the less miles you can expect. But those tires are no joke, aren't they like $350 each?

but had to run fuel to achieve those numbers...

I find that is usually the case ;)

Nice ride.
Alright, got a pic of my measly little sub lol. It's a (very outdated) Pioneer 12" TS-W33C. Can't find anything about it online now, but will eventually find the specs for it.

And the head unit. Don't know much about it either, was gifted to me by my brother. Works quite well, pretty sure it outputs 52W per channel, have it powering two 3 1/2" Kicker speakers in the dash, two 5" Infiniti woofers behind the seats and two small Boss speakers near the doors. I know that last part is bad from the Ohm's perspective but the Boss speakers can handle it fine.

Ain't nothing fancy like ya'll with your competition set ups, that's for damn sure lol.

Was reading about infinite baffles and Aperiodic Enclosures. Now to figure out how the hell to build one in this car. XD love me a thinker project!

I can't find the specs for it either.

I sent a text out to an installer who has been in the game, wow, 20+ years? He remembers everything. We were in the game when Rockford Fosgate was new & the best!

Anyway, I asked him about the sub, & he said, "It's one of those IMPP subs right?" I said I didn't know, but now that I see the pic, he was right.

He said you need at least 1.5 ft3 per sub after displacement. Meaning, the sub takes up a certain amount of space, usually between .15-.25 of a cubic foot. You need to account for that space. Being that you need as large a box as possible, you would need at least 1.75 cubic ft. for that sub to work properly. Right now, stiff suspension + undersized sealed box = a sub that mumbles instead of rumbles. Remember, it was designed to use an entire trunk as it's enclosure. So you can put it in a box, but it has to be much larger than a sealed box would be for a differently designed sub.

If you want a small sealed box sub, if you can find the old Diamond Audio M3 (or D3) Similar to this

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Diamond-Aud...s-BRAND-NEW-/181796450628?hash=item2a53e9b144

The cone must look exactly like that. After that generation they changed. But a 12" will go into that box you have there & pound with low wattage. You used to be able to find them on eBay all the time. New, old stock, for like $40 each. & they are impressive in a box that size & with power that low.

The JL Audio 12IB4's (as well as the 10IB4, the 8IB4) are infinite baffle as well, but they are some of the best sounding subs I've ever heard. I ran the 8's in my SQ car. Something about that paper cone just makes them so sweet. Light cone = fast transient response.

Scratch that idea, I guess some people finally realized how good these are. 15 years ago, if you could find them, you could get a pair for $100.

If my goal is SQ, & not SPL, I'll take a paper cone sub all day, every day. Were I to build another SQ vehicle, I would do the JL Audio 12IB4's as my main subs, & put 8"s or 10"s in the doors. They are that good. The biggest problem is they are 8 ohm, if i recall correctly. But they are very efficient. 100 watts a sub is enough.

I paid about 1100.00 otd from discount tire with certs :) I like my warranties. my plasma tv has (well had) a 5yr plus factory, tires have certs for free replacements, both my grow room a/c have 4 yr warranties. lol

we also used to sell hummers at the exotic car dealership. the H1 are for guys with little wee wee's for sure, h3 and h3t had the 5 cylinder that was worse than my old 4cyl car, cheap plastic interior.

That is a good deal for that rubber.

These are the hummers I'm talking about.

You'll see the older army style ones with the decked out interiors. I saw one of the maxed out ones back in 2003-ish. The outside is mean, but the inside is beautiful. Really classy & comfortable looking.

im not into track racing more so into road racing, check out some of the other vids. these guys have balls.

I wish I could "double" like something, that vid is awesome.

How fast do you guys suppose they are going when they come off that little hill?

we used to get all kinds of H1's in the dealership. even one that was super charged. did a HUGE rubber patch down the back of the dealership. I was never a fan of Hummers, unless its the un "other type". lol

junk, check out Isle of Man TT if you want intense road racing. dudes are super freaking nuts.

I'm very familiar with it. I'm pretty well versed in bikes & bike culture. But I don't own, I borrow. I have so many friends with bikes it's easier to "rent."

But the IOM races, or should I say racers, are out of their minds. 250 deaths out of 96 races I think. That does not count spectator deaths. & many more than that get injured during the race.

If you look at the numbers for the more recent years (the race is over 100 years old) roughly 3 racers die at every event. If there was 100 people racing, there is a 3% chance you are gonna die at that race.

I'm not a fan of those odds lol. Those guys are out of their minds. Have you ever seen the side car event? It's hilarious.

was not really into the side car, although its pretty crazy the couple races I did watch. you cant pay me enough money to hang off the side of a bike at those speeds.

I use ride at Mid Ohio concourse as well (AMA sanctioned track). my personal best on my old slow booty ass 02 gsxr 600 (tuned to 109 rwhp) was a damn good 141:xx. never did get a chance to ride my built gsxr there. :(

Thanks for looking into that for me @Junk! Way awesome! A couple years ago when I picked up the sub I could find some info but not a lot, in other words I couldn't locate any info on like Qts or anything. Anyways, I'm going to start designing a larger box for it. Would you mind if I shot you a pm once I have the drawings together to confirm I'm on track to getting that thing in a better enclosure? Thanks again man! You're a damn rockstar.

Np man. I don't have any connections with pioneer so we are on our own to find out the t/s parameters. Pm me anytime.

"You're a damn rockstar"

Almost actually, I'm a music producer. Hip hop and rnb mostly. If you have BET, TLC, Oxygen, Discover, or VH1, there is a chance you have heard my music. It's a small, fascinating world we live in these days, isnt it.

Now that's fuckin cool lol. One of my better friends is moving to the PNW to get into producing, she's been in school for a couple years for it but is having significant issues breaking into the industry down here in the southwest, so she's going where there's a much larger music scene.

How does one go about figuring out such things? I looked at the specs on the back of the speaker, doesn't indicate much other than stating needing an enclosure of 1.5 ft. Is there some type of measurement I need to do or some way I can measure the electrical details? I'm very familiar with a digital multimeter and various measuring devices.

EDIT: Oh and it states it's a 4 ohm speaker.

I'm a sick man...I collect and restore lots of other stuff but Camaros have been my passion for decades...

69 & 70 were my favorite years for the Chevelle & Camaro.

Maybe it's because my mom drove a 69 camaro, & my Dad drove a 70 chevelle :)

Now that's fuckin cool lol.

I must admit it is cool. I have confidentiality agreements that don't let me say much, but the guy I work under was nominated for a Grammy. He (not me) has worked with Jadakiss, D-block, Styles P, Cassidy (Cassidy is a sick battle rapper, I didn't know that) Mya (or Ashanti, one of those genre girls). There is some stuff I can share, I'll put it at the bottom so people don't have to weed through the thread.

It's nearly impossible unless you know someone. We have had people volunteer to clean the studio for a year, coffee runs etc. Basically volunteering to be the studio's bitch for a year, with no pay, just to get their foot in the door. If your friend wants, I'll collaborate with her on a project. I've got, in my opinion, some of THE strongest unsigned rappers.

I'm not sure what her strengths or skill levels are, but I'm sure we could work around it. It would give her a professional sounding song to add to her repertoire. One of the few things that could actually help someone get into a studio is diversity. Most studios make money off all kinds of music. The place I'm at, the owner got nominated for a Grammy for a gospel song he produced. If someone is only able to write hip hop, or rock, they are more likely to be turned down. They want someone who can do it all.

You can measure the driver but we (meaning you or I) don't have the equipment for it. We don't really need to know if it tells you what size enclosure it needs. My friend Wayne is amazing isn't he? A sub that old, & he was able to tell me, off the top of his head, that it was an IMPP sub, & that it needed at least 1.5ft3 lol.

So 1.5 ft3 is a box that, internally, measures 18"x18"x18". However, you should account for sub displacement which is about .2 ft3

So, depending on how much space you have to work with in the car, & knowing how an IB sub behaves, I would make a box that is 22"x22"x22" or larger, or the equivalent...internally. It wants at least 1.5 ft3, but it will perform better if you go a little bigger than that, & account for sub displacement. I don't know if you have a workshop or whatever, but that is not a common box size. You probably aren't going to find one that size "on the shelf." So if it's a huge hassle to build it, your other option is just to get a sub that will work in a smaller box. I wish I still had some of my Image Dynamics drivers hanging around, I could send you one to see if you like it. Alas, I gave them to a friend.

Speaking extremely generally, a sub wants at least it's dimensions, cubed. So a 12" sub will usually need at least the equivalent of a 12"x12"x12" internally, & after speaker displacement. A 15" will need 15x15x15 etc. If it's a sub that is designed to be in a sealed enclosure, it will almost always perform better if you go a little larger.

So finding a sub that will work in a small box...you have to find a very specific sub. However, what you have there is not a small box. It's just too small for that sub. That sub is designed to be in a huge space. Very stiff suspension. If you don't give it that room, you are mechanically stopping the sub from being able to resonate at low frequencies. Ironically, that's the sole job of a sub lol.

So, just weigh your options. What is it gonna cost you in time & materials to build a bigger box, vs. getting a sub that will rock in that box? I have an entire garage full of almost every tool you can imagine. So often times, I will suggest something that people don't have the means to do...I'm trying to avoid that.

Music Stuff

Three people I can say I know (because I knew them decades ago) are Termanology, Tragic Knowledge, & Lyrical Wizdom. All of which are dope. If you are into this kind of music, the videos are not that great, & all the songs are 7-9 years old. In fact, Tragic & Wiz's aren't even video's, it's just a slide show I made so I could put some of their stuff on youtube.

Termanology worked with Dj Premier to make "Watch How it Go Down." It's on The Source Fat Tape Vol 1 (It's a CD, they just like the word "tape.") or Youtube here

Tragic & Wizdom, Wiz kills the second verse.

Tragic's amazing writing skills. Guy can't play a single instrument, yet he wrote this entire song. He had a beat, that's it. He wrote the song idea, the girls lyrics, the girls melody, the song idea, the hook. Basically everything but the basic beat he wrote. His flow on this song isn't the best I've heard him, but the song idea & the writing is amazing. You can tell I made this slide show lol
