I appreciate the info very much, definitely things that you don't hear much about on forums. Unfortuneately, i culled that male, my most vigorous plant out of the bunch. Sounds like i made a mistake not seeing him through/giving him enough time.
That is very frosty for 2 weeks in.The Cube week 2. Ive never had frostier at this point. The smell is just nuts too. Im diggin this gal big time. And yup thanks smurf. Good info man.View attachment 666683
Yeah, most of what i have read agrees with what you said, and makes perfect sense. I just will always wonder "what if" since i didn't give him an honest run. I know i probably made the right move, but he looked so good early on!Maybe not. I know I read somewhere by a reputable breeder that he never chose males that revealed themselves quickly. He gave plausible reasoning behind it.
Imo a lot in picking a male is luck or a lot of testing because most of the traits/genes will be recessive and youll never know when theyll reveal themselves during a cross.
Your x female maybe short and a slow grower.. so you wanna add some vigor from your y male. Yet a couple of his recessive genes is he stretches and doesn't stack well. Yet that male showed no signs of either. Crapshoot

The theory behind choosing males that show sex later is because "hemp" or "fiber" type (low in thc) varieties mature faster than "drug" type (high in thc) varieties.... so choosing a male that takes longer to show sex is suppose to give a better chance of passing along high thc traits.... supposedly the only reason to choose a male that shows sex early is to shorten flowering time of the offspring.... so depending on what traits you're looking for your male to pass along to offspring, depends on what you want to keep......hemp is tall (6'-15'), limbless and fiberous with poor floral clusters has, it flowers quickly, has high cbd and low thc and is often monoceious.... ruderalis or autoflower is short (6"-24") and has high cbd and low thc flowering is triggered by age rather than photoperiod, with life cycle of about *10 wks (*pure ruderalis not hybrid)..... indica is short (3'-6'), has high thc, and low to moderate cbd, short branches with dense, round floral clusters, 6-8 wk flower time....sativa is tall (up to 20'), has high thc and little to no cbd, long branches with sparse, elongated floral clusters, 12-24 wk flower time..........then hybrids of any and every thing in between........... if the theory that sex showing early indicates hemp varitey, then it may not be the best candidate for passing along high thc traits to the offspring but it could be a good choice to reduce flowering time of offspring and could also pass along high cbd and strong fiber traits as well......

I saved a couple malesCould have saved the male and made a 5th backcross.
Anyone else have males from the cube auto flower on them? I have had two males out of 5 seeds popped so far, and both auto flowered. The first was the most vigorous of the bunch ,and at about 35-40 days of 18/6 he started flowering. I pinched them all off, hoping it was stress or something, but more came back in a week. I finally killed him off when i found one about to explode, and yep it was full of pollen. The second one just started showing male clusters now, about 3 weeks later, but this one has been under some stress. Anyway i have seen another report from someone with the same issue. With all the packs shown on this site, someone else must be growing them? Any issues?
I guess what Im Getting at is that exotic is cool, but I would rather have the stock from the originator, but to each his own meh.
Alien was the originator. Anyways, these cubes are looking like theyre gonna be some sweet ladies. Does anyone know if starfighter is mold/mildew resistant? Im trying to figure out my outdoor.
