That rosin bomb for 1,800 sounds right up my alley. Is that all I would have to purchase?

What about that little 6 ton on the ads to the right for $469? It looks like a nice little unit. 1800 for something so simple seems excessive. I built mine for 250 with a 99 dollar harbor frieght 12 ton press and it works great.

You could probably add a 25 percent off coupon and get it even cheaper which is what I did with the 12 ton I got. I wonder if a regular clothes iron on a granite counter top with all your weight on it would work. You'd have to find the right heat setting.

What plates did you use?Heard you have to change the bolts out to grade 8s on those harbor freight presses to make them safe, weak link?
250$ is impressive,good job!You should do a build tutorial.

Thanks Freshone. Those were my original plates, I ended up selling to a friend. I made myself some round ones that work the same but I thought looked cool lol. I also got a custom made insulator plate cheap from a guy on ebay that sells them. I talked him into cutting them to size for me. (I have extras if needed 4 in round and 3x4 rectangle) I bought the aluminum already cut from stoner raw materials on ebay. I know the guy still sells cause I get emails from him still. I have a nice drill press, but any drill press would work. Maybe even a hand drill and a vise if you got skills. You can also buy pre-made blocks for around 0.

The PID

I found a pretty good easy to follow wiring diagram at this link.
http://www.kegkits.com/
If you look at the blue links on the left there's one called wiring diagrams. Click that and it's the first one at the top that says basic 120v PID SSR controller. There's also a youtube vid.

The Heater Cartridges are 1/4" x 2" and I got 200 watters, but 100 will work but slower to heat.
https://www.ebay.com/p/IMS-Cartridg...iid=201979579518&_trksid=p2047675.m4096.l9055
They are made slightly undersized so you can drill a 1/4" hole and they will fit nicely. I drilled the holes for the heater rods 2 1/2 inches apart with the thermocouple hole centered between. Make sure your screws for the floor flange don't line up with the holes for the heater rods or your rods may get blocked from sliding in.

The thermocouple threads are made with M6x1.0 tap (cheap on amazon), and the hole was .430 deep.

The floor flange, and pipe nipple (flange and nipple are 1" NPT) were from home depot but you can get them anywhere. I used an ammo box I got from harbor freight as my electrical box.

As far as the bolts, my buddy has the exact same press and we both max them out all the time and have never had a bolt snap. At first I was a little scared but I'm used to it now and max it out on the second press routinely.

Any more questions let me know.

You can also fudge the thermocouple threads with a 1/4 20 tap if you have to. And if you buy a tap make sure and get a bottom tap. (flat on the end for blind holes)
