Just wondering if any of you went down the path of making your own Nutes, very easy to adjust to the needs of the plant, cycle or medium your using.

Making my own nutes is the next logical step for me, but I'm just that much too small scale to be fucked buying big bags of salts.. lol.
That said I'll probably start at some point because I'm like that.

I didnt just get into homebrewing either, I ended up breeding brewers yeast varieties and cryogenically storing them lol. That's how I do lol.

Wonder if more often with less may be beneficial. I very curious to get an answer on this. I mean it makes sense as enzymes will loosen bonds in a round about way but I need to sit down a few days and do some reading. Dammit... I can't not know the answer... This sucks. Would be huge if this is the case and save a lot of coco ppl a lot of trouble.

What brand of enzymes if ya don't mind sharing?

As an engineer, i have come to both love and hate that trait in myself. Once asked, I can't "not know", even if i never use it. Friends (the few that i have) and family tell me that i am an endless pit of knowledge, and that i spend my life looking for ways to apply it. My wife just calls it F'n nuts...

Yep. As of late Ive still been using Chem-gro as a base. They are local so I don't have to pay shipping. Since im away quite a bit now and having my grows look after sometimes it ends up being easier then explaining out how to mix 7 things and the orders ect. Tried that. Didn't go so hot.

If I was ordering nutes I would prob just go the Jacks/Oasis route now or make it from scratch since I have most of everything sitting on a shelf at this point. I still say always try and source it local. Specially if you are around real farmers. Saves you a good chunk of change sometimes. Cal nitrate locally for me is $0.41 a lb for Yara greenhouse grade. Also use hydro buddy and check cheap mades. You would be surprised what kind of combos you can come up with for off the shelf stuff with a little MKP or epsom thrown in.

Lol, holy fuk boys... this could well be in the running for the nicest looking plants I've ever sent into flower. Picture doesnt do it justice.

Also gotta say now that my runoff ppm is normal again I'm sold on the enzymes lol. I was feeding 1.4-1.5 and getting runoff around 1.3 or so when I flipped, then I added enzymes to one irrigation cycle, and the next day runoff was 1.7-1.8, that's when I flushed with nutrient solution, about a double feeding worth and brought it back to 1.5 runoff.
Today, the next day its feeding at 1.5 and coming out at 1.3 again. Tells me that those enzymes loosened up some excess nutrients from the bank to be flushed away.

Never, ever seen my plants look this vigorous and healthy.

Don't know why people shy away from enzymes, I've been growing with them for about six years now, and never looked back, keeps my medium and water water on target too.

I'll give it a couple days, if no improvement I'm pulling the chute. I'll need to salvage some cuttings from these to save the genetics and try again...

Now though, I've got some serious thinking to do. The guy who's been feeding me the tips and tricks that led to this grow gave me a few more tips last night. Tips that I'd heard of before and am/was skeptical of, even though I've seen it work for him, but now I'm tempted to do some experimenting myself since so much of what hes recommended has been paying off.
Sadly its too late to implement one of the tricks but not too late for the others. Unfortunately I cant say too much because he made me promise I wouldnt share a few of the things with anyone. This is his legal business and a lot of it is his closely guarded trade secrets, and he's helped me a lot so I plan to honor that, but I'll just say this grow is gonna get interesting in the next few weeks!.. So far, it is somewhat going against the grain and challenging some things I thought I knew. And I'm in a great position to do a side by side to test a couple of his theories... If you're paying attention you might pick up what I'm up to lol.

This is gonna be fun!

Lol I hate being this vague, but at the same time I'm too excited about it not to share something...

The tip I can share, which I'll let out of the bag... I'm almost ashamed to admit that I'm going to experiment with lol... And its defoliation.

At the end of the stretch phase I'm going to strip a ton of leaves off 2 of my platinum cookie plants. I have 9 nearly identical PC plants in the room so I think doing it to 2 should give me an idea of its merits. One on an inside row and one on an outside row.

I've been harshly skeptical of defoliation forever because it literally seems to defy the most basic principles of botany. I tried it once, but differently and it was a massive failure, though I was a lot younger at the time and not nearly as experienced. But he seems to produce absolutely enormous tight buds that dont have that extra leafy structure i associate with using the technique, and claims his yields went up when he started. But it also requires correct timing and tweaking of a few things to do properly apparently. So while I'm still very skeptical, I think it's time to put this one to bed for myself. Dirtbags doing a defol side by side comparison lol.

I can tell you this, most of the tips were environmental tweaks to encourage crop steering. And not just increased dry outs periodically in flower.

The other tip I can share, which I'll let out of the bag... I'm almost ashamed to admit that I'm going to experiment with lol... And its defoliation.

At the end of the stretch phase I'm going to strip a ton of leaves off 2 of my platinum cookie plants. I have 9 nearly identical PC plants in the room so I think doing it to 2 should give me an idea of its merits. One on an inside row and one on an outside row.

Of course its defoliation. The whole grow is pretty much what the nute companies and forums are showing today.

My question is did the tip giving grower do a real side by side before saying any of it increased yield or quality?

I'm going to guess a higher humidity will be one environmental factor with a few more minor changes that will be needed to make sure pathogens are not an issue.... but you have my attention on this lol.

I hate cutting leaves off as well but at 2-3-4 weeks into flower I'll trim off anything overhanging a bud site or large top leaves that shade too much below it.I'll also try not to take 2 leaves off the same node, I like to leave at least one leaf on.

I'm not going for sea of green and I like the light penetrating to lower buds. I spin my plants daily to allow light through different parts of the plant. I'm also not going for only top buds I'll take the lower buds too. It just adds volume.

So I'm for selective trimming if there's a vote somewhere.

Selective trimming makes more sense than mindlessly stripping plants.

Everything is not an either/ or proposition. No technique should be. These are all just tools to help particular situations. Even the additives are not meant to be used like fertilizer. They do a particular job when and if needed. Well maybe the companies that produce them would like that.

Of course, they did a lot of testing. And honestly it adds work, they wouldnt do it if it didnt work I dont think. This guy is in charge of a very large and advanced operation, hes not some flatbill dude in his basement.

But again honestly like you I'm skeptical, VERY skeptical about defoliation, that's why I'm only doing 2 plants and not the whole crop. I've been skeptical about a lot of the things I'm trying, but I cant argue if it works. I'm going into this to see for myself one way or another. Otherwise, to be fair, I really dont feel entitled to an opinion as to whether it works or not.

One thing I can promise is that for this guy, it works. Never could understand how or why, but it does. I've seen him do it, now I want to see what happens If I do it the way he says. If only to prove it to myself one way or another.

If there is a fact, it's that I have no dog in the fight as to whether or not it is beneficial or disastrous. I just want to run an experiment and settle the debate in my own flower room. I'll hang dry 2 defol and 2 not and weigh the final product and compare them for differences.

Its my way or the hiway bud! if you don't agree I'll hit the highway. lol Of course its optional no laws yet on how Mr.G( the guy in the sky) want his plants trimmed. There will be some professing to know what Mr.G wants and they may want to lay laws down on how to trim according to their dreams... but I digress I've let plants go without cutting a leaf off but that left me with lots of yellow under done lower buds not fit to smoke.

Maybe not the best pics but this is some pot he produced, we traded a few oz last night. His bags are always comprised of nice compact and well developed nuggets. Not the flarf you would expect from a defoliated crop is it. And the burn and flavour is off the charts.
I'm a results oriented guy, and his results are impressive.
