I have to agree with you. I have found over the last year or so every bag my buddy has bought there is some sort of infestation in all of their bagged soil. Typically both species. No one I know will use it anymore until something changes.
Thats weird bc I kinda agree with @Tnelz ...Although I havn't been growing very long I have purchased over 10 bags of FF this year with the bulk of it being Ocean forrest but also Light Warrior and Happy Frog...All the soil minus 2 bags were bought on Amazon and all the soil was broughgt directly in my basement for mixing. I never had one issue with ANY bug untill early ythis summer I noticed a few gnats outdoors but thats outdoors and with soil that had been left in old pots for years,...IDK just throwing out my experience

which brings up a question in my mind... how would a soil that has not had roots in it come infested with a root pest like aphids? the only way I can see is if the soil sat near an infected area for a time... ordering from amazon, its likely to come straight from some warehouse its been sittin in and you taking it inside right away doesnt allow much time for pests to get in there. On the other hand, if your bag came from a hydro store, hundreds of growers have likely been leaning over it to grab their bottle of avid.....

End of the day @SeaF0ur is right on as usual. Root aphids don't just hang in a bag of soil for the hell of it. Lol. Quite the contrary. They act different from other bugs. They don't bother with weak or sick plants. They go for the best plants with they biggest root system first. They know what they like and they like big juicy white roots. They are root aphids. No roots no root aphids. So they def ain't chillin in an empty bag of soil. However if a bag did happen to have one or two in it it's they stores fault. Not fox farms.

Since your intentions are to breed I have a question.

Why did you let the plants get so tall & thin? As opposed to topping to make a bushier plant? Is there a breeding purpose behind that?

Or was it just a busy time & some plants were just left to "be." (We've all done it, I'm just curious if it was intentional for breeding somehow?)
The thin ones r my clones I've had sitting in solo cup size pots . Until I got a male . Don't need allot of bud sites to get enough seeds to work with . Up potted 7 days ago . No particular breeding purpose . Other than it allows me to run the 5 females I want to breed with . Otherwise I'd be down to 3 to fit in the space available . Cheers

Just wondering if anyone can help me out... In pretty sure i got leaf miners on a couple of my outdoor citrus plants...grapefruit and lemon trees, still young not trees yet.

Anyhow i think i also got something else going on, underside of the leaf. If anyone is down to hit me with any ideas about the underside of the leaf, and possibly confirm the leaf miners on the top. And a possible solution thatd be cool. Thanks guys.

Oh and.....What uuuuuup!? positive vibes to the thread and its occupants. Ha.

Anyone rocking any TopDawg gear still? I know yall were talking bout JJ a few pages back... I need some Stardawg, Tres Sis/Dawg, in my life like asap lol. If anyone has a pack or cuts laying round, pm me... Shits been scarce for the past 2 years haha

For the record nine times out of ten I use fox farms happy frog. If u got a bad bag it's ur hydro store not fox farms. Just my two cents. I've never had an issue in over ten years.

I'd like to agree with you, but I've researched it pretty well. I've never purchased FF for cannabis. I stopped a long time ago. But every single grower I know, who are all independent (they don't know each other) has said the same thing. That & my experience is beyond coincidence.

I have had the problem from the local gardening supply place. Not a hydro store. They had been getting similar complaints, but said there was not much they can do because that was the franchise product.

I think you are just one of the lucky ones not to have experienced it yet.

I'm sure if you do, you would say it, so, it's all good. We'll see if you can save their reputation. It's a legit problem that just hasn't hit you yet...& maybe never will....

A supply store would be worse than a hydro store. More people around more plants. But it's def not something I worry about. First cuz I've already demolished root aphids and second I've been using the stuff for 10 plus years. But it's cool. To each his own. U def don't have to like ff. Lol

yes, leafminers...

http://www.planetnatural.com/pest-problem-solver/houseplant-pests/leafminer-control/

Adult citrus leaf miners are active during the day, but spend the evening resting on the underside of leaves. The female miner lays her eggs on the underside of leaves.

however its difficult to see the undersides so check them against citrus mealybugs and citrus thrips

dont they sterilize before packing?? Maybe some damn stoner left out a step lol

I don't know, but I've had a problem, & literally EVERYONE else I know (growers in person) has also had the problem. Hydro store, regular store, Maine to Mass, people have had it. Many reports on the internet.

It may seem like I'm reading stuff on the internet & taking it here. I try not to do that. After all, what is the internet if not a large gossip forum. That isn't the basis of my opinion. I'm just saying it backs my opinion up.

Hand to god, the local hydro store, without any prompting or mention of past experience...when I went to purchase my first soil batch & requested FF, they told me they wouldn't use it because they have had complaints of mites/aphids being IN the packaging before even planting. As @Tnelz said, to each his own. If he hasn't had a problem in 10 years...that's a formidable argument for the other side.

But I figured since a bug issue was being brought up, or better yet, someone asked how to prevent it...I thought mentioning the FF issue might be helpful.

However you do it, may you all be bug free lol.

The entire cannabis community has experienced exponential growth. FF is trying to crank that shit out to keep up with demand
is there any wonder there is problems with shit cranked out?
if you use it on your prize beauties sterilize the hell out of it yourself, but its a bitch to pay top dollar and get a inferior product, not so much unlike
hacks trying to crank out beans genetically predisposed to herm to make a quick buck, that end up contaminating gardens. such is life these days.

Good post, it'll help me get back on balance.

I was intentionally hyperbolic in my "Don't use FF lol" post. But really, I just want people to know about the problem so they can be aware.

Like the second thing you mentioned about cranking out seeds. I did not know about that until I came here. For well over a year I was trying to figure out what I was doing wrong. Most plants were great, but 1 out of 6 (approx) was somehow weird. Slow growth, mutations, extremely long finish time... until some of the more knowledgable people on here saw pics etc & said it's the seeds.

Just to make one last run at it, I cloned one of the problem plants, to see what would happen again if I could keep temps even lower...make growing conditions even better.

Same plant (clone) now in Hydro, still grows painfully slow. I've grown enough of these to know the difference between "slow", & "something's wrong," & in a last ditch effort to test the theories I had, I grew what I thought to be a flawed plant, one more time, just to see if it's me...same problem.

I wasn't aware of the genetics being compromised so companies could pump out seeds. But I'm very thankful I know it now.

Take the Fox Farm comment as an observation from several people in the North East part of the country, & just keep an eye out. A lot of people are very happy with them.

yeah i know sterilization will also kill the good stuff to... just dont use FF.
With the skill that most guys have that are in this thread, why not just make your own, and have the quality control u need.
Guys are turning out genetically superior strains.....put that same effort in on your soil building and damn what a match!
