I stopped withholding nutes during ripening. Just feed less now.

I want to harvest a healthy medium green plant when possible. My trials showed flushed and faded plants to have less yield and potency.

Its really up to the plants and the grow at hand as I usually grow new seed plants and we all know the challange that can bring.

But as a range with pure blend pro grow, .2ec well water and say ocean forest and perlite (im using a new soil called mother earth groundswell right now) I start with 5 ml / gallon and work up as needed each watering (2-3 days when mature) up to 20ml but usually a full dose of 20 needs backing down to 17.5 as soon as buds fully set. Then ideally stepped right back down the same 2.5ml increments. Some plants like to hover at 15ml and some seem to be better at 10.

I checked the runoff ec of the plant we harvested tonight at last watering which was water only and it was .3ec. The well water is .2. That was 3 days ago. She was still drinking.

The last feeding which was 6 or 7 days ago she got 5 ml pure blend pro grow. And if i look 3 days before i bet it was 7.5 These amounts are subject to problems and plant health of course. Picky plants are what they are.

To convert all this babble to a usable ec for my garden environment a max ec with Botanicare kind trio was 1.4 safely and minumim was .6 or .8 if during transition the ocean forest wears out.

These numbers stepped up slowly and down at each or most waterings were under 2 600 hortilux super hps and had to be stepped up some when i added a phillips 315. During stretch and transition they needed more i think.

Hows that. Man i am really high on Mrs mmg’s carrot cake muffin. And some nice bong tokes. Took me a while to write this. :-)

It's really hard to tell ripeness from uploaded pics. I think MIMed and I are seeing the same thing, the calyces seem a little underdeveloped. It could be the lighting blurring the pic but it looks to me like it's just beginning the swell.

When I went back to look at that C99 to see why I thought it looked early, I noticed some sort of issue you got going on with your girl to the right, in the back. Lots of chlorosis and a puffy droop to the leaves. Have you identified what's causing that? If it was just the droop I'd say water logged but the chlorosis makes me think it's a nute issue. Mine were (might still be) having issues from a potassium deficiency and even when watering the right amount they'd droop like they were water logged. I'm not saying yours are/aren't potassium deficient but am using it as an example due to similarities. (Think I'm going to check soil potassium levels on mine tomorrow.)

Like you mentioned it depends and it’s not like I can take your example and follow that exactly with my setup and medium and strains, but it’s a good reference for anybody. It’s so very hard for this old gold miner to not stick to the old ways man. I still believe your better off with less than with more near the end, but I got to get braver. I’m trying to find that perfect balance of depletion and health at harvest I suppose.

I tested 3 known cuttings 3 times each to test this and each time the medium green healthier looking plant had better yield, flavor and potency. Fed lightly to the end.

Like i said the ppm’s have gone down with the lighter feedings. My soil is cleaner than an over fed plant that was water only a couple weeks.

That said its better to end up a little yellow than dark green and burning. Lol.

The other two major improvements to me were not adjusting ph of my relatively soft .2 e. Well water in limed soil and ditching the bloom ratio bottle in favor of the grow bottle all the way through.

The funny part of this is the great pot i could get in the 90’s was grown like a normal garden.

They used jacks classic and a peat lite mix was all. And a garden hose attached to the faucet. Lol.

They were growing AK and Trainwreck and it would rip our heads off. ;-)

All it is up here is rotted trees. Toxic amount of nitrogen for young plants lol. But if I cut it with the peat, it should work good. Might not have to fertilize much. Going to use lake water

I wash my kayak so the lake water doesnt mingle with the river and visa versa. Lol.

I can drink my lake water it’s so clean. Would be cool to test it and see what minerals and such are in there. (Maybe a hint o gold;)

Oh, I have that. Covered my septic system with it last summer. I almost cried, haha. Thought you had the the ancient tundra peat+evergreen in layers. Black like charcoal, basically the early stages of charcoal.

I thought he was sitting on black humus because of his location, but it sounds more like super fresh wood litter that the microbes have barely started on.

But yes, I was referring to the black soil you hear about. The smell is so rich. It's like perfume to a grower.

Mix that with Fox Farm Ocean Forest, Roots Organic soil, and expanded clay pellets for super soil.

You can use the recipe I gave as an amendment to used garden soil as well. It will super charge the soil and all you need is biologicals like what's in Primordial Solutions Sea Green to keep it producing through harvest. You shouldn't even need flower nutes if the previous garden soil is any good and only depleted.

Compost turns black over time but that doesn't necessarily make it the correct soil for growing cannabis. Weed loves evergreen compost for its high acid content. I'd take a test kit to it to measure NPK and pH and see if it needs to be amended. You also need to mix for proper water retention and drainage. Peat holds water and pearlite or sand drains it. Expanded clay pellets do both but should be used in addition.

(*note* A lot of this is my opinion and there may be better ways. I'm still learning but I do my best to provide correct information.)
