so watching your thought have me wondering one thing bro,how the hell do you isolate the npk values in hydro,i just recently tested my water with a npk kit off amazon ,all i had use it for my soil, but tried anyway, that water had so much N that the color wasnt even on the gauge,p was adequte,no sign of k at all,so later that night got to reading some shit that explain another problem ,windy conditions snap the vines of the watermelon plant was one, aphid are atracted to plants with very high N count,so im thinking thats been my problem all along, the feed is the 8-16-36,then the magnesium sulfate, calcium nitrate, the calcium nitrate were the N comes from right?i need something i can isolate what each are doing, swinging from 5.8 to 6.3 over night and shit, sky rocket ppm from 12 to 1600,so i said screw it and added a scoop of cha-ching from fox farms,0-50-10,expecting a burning bush come morning ,my ph was 5.9 ppm 1245,it dropped all the crazy, dont have a clue why, stayed stable for 3 days, put a smit of potassium sulfate in to raise the ph to 6.0 and added 60 mil hydroguard, been stable ,so today raining and 50 degrees ,35 by sat morning hahahah what can i say hahahah aint even liking the cool weather

In the car but potassium nitrate may help.. when I get home I can help ya. I used to mix all my own ferts using dry salts and hydro buddy. I have calcium nitrate, potassium nitrate even a small amount of ammonium nitrate lol.... Try to get that nowadays. You can buy tons of different dry ferts cheap as fuck. Then I just use hydrobuddy and plug in the ppm I want for each and hit calculate and it spits out exactly how much of each I need to get the desired ppm then I can easily adjust based on uptake. I did this for my planted tanks for years but it's been years since I have bothered to mix my own now I just use all my extra dry ferts to amend my solution if needed or if I feel like tinkering

Switch to salts. I have 4 - 55 gals for flower and 2 -40 gal for veg and my nutes end up costing me less then a penny a gal. PH doesn't even budge.

This would be ideal if you can. It's really cheap and gives a lot of flexibility.

I do thing different I only change max 50% of my res a week and usually 25%. So unless I fuck something up nope.

You can make part a and b concentratea with hydrobuddy. Really @cemchris is the go to on this... Like I say it's been years. It's really easy to mix your own ferts and better quality than you can usually buy plus you can adjust them. If you get a chance take a look at hydrobuddy. It takes all the brain work out. The more sources you have of each nutrient the easier it is to fine tune your nutrient recipe.

I mean I use mega crop in my hydro system. Start to finish just adjust the ppm. Love it but dry ferts are cheaper and I'm just to lazy to mix my own anymore.

Yeah just go with something Like Oasis, Jacks, Peters Professional (5-11/12-26 somewhere around there). They are all pretty much the same. You need Cal nitrate (A) and Mag Sulfate (epsom salt from walgreen's/cvs if you dont want bulk) (Base + Mag Sul is B) . 3 things to mix and you are done. Cut your nute cost by about 400-800%. Honestly dont even need to make concentrates unless you are dosing. Only reason I was suggesting this is with 110 gals for flower and 80 for veg you will start blowing through 3 part. The 6 gals of 3 part wouldnt last to long for me. Bought more then a couple a year. Not to mention if you expand off the 2 - 55 gals. I take it a 55 gal lasts a week for flower? 3 part also works if you would rather just rock that out. Nothing wrong with that. Just don't use GH schedule. I just wish 3 part didn't have dye in it.

You can basically get 2 - 25 lb bags of base for around 100 bucks. Cal Nitrate you can source locally usually from AG suppliers for 0.50-$1 a lb or get it from the base people. Mag sulfate cost around 20-30 bucks for a 50 lb bag or buy it when you need it from grocery or drug store. For around $180 you can basically have nutes that will last you a year or more. Same chems that are in 3 part and can adjust it to what you want just like 3 part. You just aren't paying for 90% of the bottle that's water which equates into the price because of shipping those to a shop.

Found it.... It even has ammonium. Another no go for hydro imo. I know I was thinking the grow big had none until I looked it up.

Hey Aquaman, one last thing I’d like to throw in the mix here. When the issue first showed up during veg, my first thought was that it could be the Hydroguard in combination with something in the FoxFarm. I honestly don’t know enough about nutrients yet to even have supportive facts for that. More of a gut feeling

ChemChris, I got a question regarding this whole FoxFarm thing. Do you think that the Hydroguard could be reacting poorly with something in the FoxFarm lineup? I already made my decision to change, but I can’t put the puzzle down. Originally my gut told me that was a possibility. I don’t know enough about the chemistry to say, but I found this

No hydrogaurd is bacillus amyloliquefaciens. Nothing in it will react with your nutes. I'm guess you were seeing sludge and all that crap from the organics in the fox farms.

Also that particular strain does not reproduce well in water so even if it was a bacteria bloom from organics it wasn't the hydrogaurd.

Naw you will kill your plant before you kill the bacteria.

Are you using reg Grow Big or Grow big Hydro? Reg Grow Big is Trash. Specially for hydro. Will cause all sorts of problems including fucking with the PH hardcore.

Definitely using the Hydro version. The sediment seemed to be coming from the Big Bloom. That info that I posted had a parameter of Amonia Nitrate that was acceptable. Was just thinking maybe it was the ratios. The Hydroguard was the only thing added that was not in the line up.

Phosphorus deficiency?

Time to unpack this a little -First and foremost always use the Grow Big Hydro since it has calcium in it and reg Grow Big does not -When you say you are mixing at that ratio are you mixing that ratio per gallon or for all 3 gallons? Did you maybe mean tsp not ml? -At the ratios you are...

Explanation of the above of Reg Grow Big vs Grow Big Hydro

Naw you solid. I would drop the Big Bloom. Tiger Bloom and Grow Big Hydro do fine in Rez's unless you want to switch which is also ok. You can use Big Bloom to foliar in veg. Only thing I every really used to it for after trying to put it in a rez.

[/QUO ive used jack in coco before good stuff nothing fancy but does the job, guess what im trying to figure out is not changing res water but topping off, some how i went way over board on nitrogen just buy topping off,way over,my water melon plant is just about burned up,but im not giving up on the hydro just still tweeking the ins and out, wondered if there was a test kit for this in hydro,im not sure if the reg 20 dollar job off amazon is the same ,i do all my sol testing with the tablets

@oldskol4evr Honestly with the high N most of these mixes run I wouldnt be topping off past like 20%. I would just drain and fill. You can afford to with salts :D. I think the big thing you are running into is the NH4 building up which will throw a plant south quickly.
