'part of the chardonnay haul this year. sweet and juicy.

i love my ri reds. you're so right, sm. when handled regularly, they remain very comfortable and friendly around folks (and i'm only talking hens here, i don't keep roosters). my ameraucanas are not too bad socially, but my easter eggers are the most skittish breed i've had. i've never had a mean one, they'll just put their heads down and run away when you get close to them. it's like they think they're playing a never ending game of tag and you're it. 'incredibly beautiful however, when you can get close to them. some of the coloring is stunning. btw, they all love grape leaves.

Great day hit river for a couple of hours after deliveries, water a little clearer. Finally fish are chasing streamer. Netted a few nice browns that fought good and swam off with vigor. Love the action of streamer fishing, they hit it hard and are on or off. Also lots of chases. Today a huge dark rainbow chased my green beaded wooly bugger on 3 different casts. Again had river to myself 2 other fisherman kept our distance tons of water all to myself.
Water was stained last 6 weeks due to almost daily monsoon rains. This is a good thing IMO in that no ones fishing during the hot summer due to off color, fish are not getting hammered, water is stained but way cooler than usual summer. So I know fall is just going to be awesome. less fisherman, streamer, large nymphs, fish like to gorge before winter...

I'm getting a chicken coop for my backyard. Fresh eggs, they eat lots of greens and such, city ordinance allows them, why not?

There is nothing better in this world for breakfast than fresh eggs from healthy chickens!

The only reason I can see for not doing it is because you don't want the hassle. (that'd be me) We're gonna have the land to do it...but we're already known as the folks who bought the place that had the SMELLY peacocks, chickens, goats, dogs and God knows what else roamin around. We made em tear the coop down and haul the fucker off before we'd close and we tried to get them to remove all of the pens/barbed wire.....but they refused. Fuckin Billys!

4 dogs/a cat/some fish and a snake are enough responsibility/tie us down/keep us from goin and doin' enough as it is. Can't even imagine having the daily responsibility for additional critters! I have a hard enough time feeding myself/remembering to eat....LOL. Poor chickens could starve...

I think we're gonna focus on things that grow....but hey...good luck with the chicks!

Today's plans .... kid to doc for school physical , still scared to death to get a needle at 16 but not piercings ? then some supplies for the weekend . Big weekend the end of the year labor day horseshoe tournament 76 people 3 kegs food and horseshoes all day my kind of fun ...... the best or close to best day of the year this Sunday - 12 yr running only made championship once but still a blast and we pick teams out of a hat .... last year 1st place was 440 a person (2 to a team) 220 a person second and 110 third but win or most likely lose still great to have all good people in one spot having a great time that you organized .... feeling really upbeat today after a few depressing day......

hope everyone is fine and safe
blessings

baba, is that purple stuff red Cale or beet leaves. I get assorted nuts, a smoothie and toast for breakfast today. Veggies will come for dinner. Today will pull what is left of the beans, clean up around the squash and finally am getting overrun with tomatoes. Time for tomato juice, soup and slice and eat as many as I can stand. Sorry for the graphic image but I shit like a pigeon...anybody that lives on veggies knows exactly what I mean.

For those of you who like eggs, but perhaps suffer GERD (I do), try this one: poached egg (yolk's gotta be runny!) on top of Puerto Rican-style beans and rice. Oh my fucking GOD.

I've run out of beans and rice, gotta make more!

I've been experimenting with having a couple of eggs and either toast or rice & beans for my breakfast, vs having my usual small seed cereal (chia, hemp hearts, two types of flax, quinoa, some chopped nuts such as cashew, pecan and almond), and I have found that I don't get hungry for several hours after having the eggs. However, within an hour I'm quite hungry after having the cereal.

So, I called my mom (the registered dietitian), "Mom! What's up with this? I could eat a horse!"
She then proceeds to inform me that, because the proteins take longer to break down, they will allow me to feel full longer. Conversely, I am still getting higher blood sugar levels even though I'm not eating as much grain when I have the small seed cereal, and when the blood sugar drops I get hungry.

If I then put my girls on an Omega-3 diet, their eggs will be even healthier for me. But I know I've still gotta eat my green veggies. How about a poached egg on top of kale? The Union Inn had a kale salad, very tart vinaigrette dressing, some lardon bits, and topped with a beautiful poached egg. I would have that for dinner, as it was plenty filling.
