does anyone know what hormones are used in regular rooting gel? ive read some may be harmful but don't know if they are the ones commonly used or not.

2,4D and 2,4,5T are stable analogs of IAA but are used a herbicides.
An interesting aside, any single PGR can not only elicit different responses interspecially and intraspecially but also elicit different responses between different cultivars and even between different lines of the same cultivar.
yep as a general rule of thumb, cytokinins generate shoots and auxins generate roots. see pic at bottom of page
