Try cheese cloth or panty hose. The panty hose was what one cat said he was using to keep the flyers contained to the infected pots. So the method could work to keep the met52 rice/grain in your net pot.

Fuuuck I got them. They are on clones that are barely rooted and some clones that were just recently planted in solo cups. They came from my boy who I think got them from FoxFarm dirt. We are in NY and I have never seen them except once at a dudes in Ithaca, NY who brought them from Colorado (lol I showered and threw my clothes away). I have purchased Merit and Exciter today. The roots do not look bad at all. Still pearly white. How much time do you guys think I have? Any chance of being able to score some of this Met 25?

I need some hope here. Im dealing with over a 200 clones that I am trying to plant asap. These are my prized genetics that I really really dont wanna let go. Is this it for me with these genetics and this location? ECO-if in NY, you'll have to hunt for it. i see no east coast reps for Novozymes, just a lot in the midwest (farmbelt), 1 in CA and 2 in ID. it's not cheap, but it's done the job for me (along with other standard controls as mentioned).

if you want to preserve the genetics, as a precaution, i'd take cuts of each and transport those cleanly to a new location and then re-cut/clone. this way if something goes haywire in the main grow, you are still viable.

LoL so what I thought were root aphids turned out to be predatory insects in the new bags of blackgold dirt I purchased. Hypoaspis Miles is what they are called. Here's a youtube video of what I saw yesterday afternoon coming outta some freshly transplanted solo cups. I thought for sure they were root aphids...

Anyone ever seen these guys before. Apparently theres been alot of issues with soil getting contaminated during shipping so blackgold is adding this beneficial insect to their soils as a preventative. Just thought I would pass on what I learned. I would have nuked my plants had I not stumbled upon this.

i have to agree with you bro. im setting up second location to start from seed. i am able to run cycles without too many probs with benificials fungal and keeping everything really dry but no way ill be able to eradicate fully untill i can break everything down and do a complete fumigation or 10! nematodes def help.

Eco - good to hear, I had the same predatory soil mites show in my Roots Soil bags as well ..... i'm guessing for the same reason (as mentioned before, several of us seemed to have gotten infested from their soil ... but can't say for sure. odd on the timing of each new arrival of soil vs timing of infestations exploding though). good on them for being pro-active in adding them in, saves us from having to do it ;)

How are things going with you and the Met 52? I'm seeing good results with zero sign's of deficiencies 2 weeks in on a bunch of three gallon coco containers on flood tables (actually had RA's in a few of the containers prior to the run). FG's flying around still but I think I'm gonna cap the tops with sand. Just thought I'd ask how your stuff is doing...

going real good here. between the Met52 mixed into the soil, soil drenches with 5% Pyrethrin, Neem, Azamax, Azatrol and Imadoclaprin (Bayer Complete. for the moms only) -- switched up between these for several weeks. also covered each top layer with DE and @2" perlite .... it's been keeping the fliers down and out. so far the only thing left to deal with are a few FGnats that seem to find a home somewhere and spider mites (under control mostly, but the heat/humidity levels this time of year make them a bitch to deal with)

You might try that sand trick for the FG's. It worked real well in another warehouse a guy showed me. He just threw an inch of sand on top of his soil containers. That's it. I saw the before and after and I was impressed. Seamaiden had some info up on different types of sand and what not to use in this application, if you're interested. The fliers can't get in and out as easily to lay those eggs. Curse the larvae. Yeah, I just had a spider mite outbreak, too. I knew it was coming. All I can add at this point is I use Bayer complete from clone to first transplant, then maybe once more. Kinda want to see if the Met handles things this time on its own (risky?). Maybe I better throw in a mid-term liquid P soak:sweating. Anyway EC- Good luck on the rest of your hot summer. Thanks for getting back and glad to hear things are going well for you man.

What happened? Shit works right? Does the Met52 colonize the whole container? What do the root masses look like after harvest? Could/can you take a chunk of Met 52 inoculated medium that s from a past grow and pot it up and inoculate new pot?

Is it dangerous to breath when cleaning pots, removing old root mass that have been inoculated?

opinions so far, and some bookmarks

I had a bad infestation of a destructive root pest I believe to be from the root aphid family>>> http://youtu.be/2x3NSMVPqIc.

It's hard for me to give a complete opinion cause this is my first round with Met 52 and have yet to harvest anything inoculated with met 52. So far I am experimenting with it in straight perlite, straight coco, and have top dressed and watered it into dynarok/hydroton.

Also, my infested plants were destroyed, and heavy sanitation was done to the infected areas, and remaining vegging plants were treated with kontos (spirotetramat), and examined under magnification and no root aphids could be found anywhere, so for the most part, for me, Met 52 is being trialled as a preventative and I hope I never see that pest again ever.

Right now Met 52 is rated for the black vine weevil, and strawberry root weevil, and mentions "other soil pests".

some things about Met 52 I've noticed so far,

1) Met 52 does not work against fungus gnat larvae, or springtails (non targeted pests that were found in Met treated coco).

2) Inoculation in coco (using Altimood's method); In coco I dissected 1 plant that had the medium infused with met 52 and thoroughly examined it throughout with magnification and none of the "white fuzz" sporing was noticed in wet coco, but there was some on top in dryer areas exposed to air. The roots where dental white and healthy, with no root aphids.

3) Inoculation in 100% perlite (6grams/gallon of media and uniformily mixied); Grows like an algae, clinging to the perlite. leaving a brown haze much like algae growth in spots throughout the perlite. No root aphids have been found in perlite so far.

4) Inoculation in dynarok/hydroton (by top dressing and watering in). Some "white fuzz" sporulation on top. No root aphids have been found in dynarok/hydroton so far.

5) I noticed none spreading airborne, it seems to stay in the medium only. None on plants or anywhere else seen, (though not tested).

6) No adverse reactions from experiment so far.

7) No root aphids found so far.<<

In these added bookmarks I've read it's rated for soft fruit and other food crops up to zero days of harvest. No chemical pesticides are being used other than the initial dose of spirotetramat (on vegging starter plants in smaller pots), but BTI and cedar oil were added to control fungus gnats and springtails that were found in the coco.
