Great cannabis can be grown with cheap leds, cfl, mh, hps etc. All the more dependent on genetics, soil or grow system/style. But at the end of the day as far as yield goes hid is still king of the hill, but leds are fast nipping hid at the buds, (no pun)
I see a day when everyone will be using leds as it would be a no brainer not to use em. When the ppfd and par and yield get there it would be ignorant not to use em. They run cooler and cheaper and when leds start generating the yields hid does, everyone will jump on board.
After watching my bros grow under the fluence spyderXplus and yes it is a pricey unit, but he is slaying it with this setup in a 6 x 6 tent. you arent going to get these specs from amazon or the chinese for sure.

I will post his harvest yields and strains in a few weeks harvest is close and should have some dried weights. My next purchase will be this light. I am hoping it comes down another 3-4 a pop tho............. Hard to spend that kind of cash when I got perfectly good digital ballasts and lamps already paid for :D
Just quick comparison. The top is a $150 led bottom $900 led. Top actually has same amount red as bottom has total leds. 3w leds on both and the bottom "better unit " doesn't even list the actual spectrum output. But bottom does actually draw less watts from wall by less than 10 watts.

Yeah I think 6 sq meters is bull too but at least the Walmart special actually lists the amount of red to other colors and the nm numbers of colors. The $900 kind just says " perfect spectrum". And nowhere does the kind say it wasn't made in china also. I have the top one in a 4x4 with t5 hos on outsides of it with 3000k bulbs staggered. Personally I wouldn't buy either one of them lights.

My past I've always seen halide for veg hps for bloom. That was standard. But the new wave is led. And maybe there is flaws especially at this stage. They are all rolling dice at this point until they actually get the technology mastered. I think I will eventually build a good setup. With stuff that is reliable and lasts. But I'm not going to pay crazy for a system that doesn't really prove its worth. Building one is the way. I'm pretty good hands on building things and designing.Oh without a doubt the kind light is better!!
The cheap one will run hotter, the diodes will burn out quicker. Repair and replacement will be non existent with the cheap one. But the kind light is over prices by 50% at min... There are much better choices.
I would rather spend a few dollars on 200 watt cob before 200 on a 600 watt cheap fixture.
It seems like it would be a really cool feature, but im not paying 400 more for it and there name... So I agree with you here!In reference to the comparison, with Kind you're paying for two things. The programmable feature, and the name. I don't think I'd ever buy a unit that was expensive that didn't use COB's. IMO, and I'm still new to this so maybe I'm wrong, but the programmable feature is kind of useless. I get in nature the sun power is going to gradually go up to a peak and go back down, but we're growing indoors.
Im with out a doubt that the kind light is of high caliber..It's no doubt a cool feature, but you can get chinese units with the same exact programming for 1/4 of the cost tbh. I get companies need to make money, that's a given. But damn. I've kicked around starting a LED company, just working on pricing and so on. If you want to be an honest company and charge a fair price while using the best internals, units won't be cheap. But, there's a big difference between a light that looks high end, and a light that is high end.

We just know that it would be 10x more intelligent to build our own cob array so we can place the cobs at what ever distance and spacing we feel like, therefore allowing the heat to be dissipated more evenly throught out the room as well as the light.
