Underneath is how I do it, but if he can make it work that way, I KNOW it works. I call mine the Electric Blanket Sandwich (my homage to Kesey and the Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test). It's more difficult setting pots on top of the blanket, absolute truth there, because they tend to wobble on the wires & softness.

I'm going to try Sea's Biochar 101 again. First lesson: DON'T SMOTHER THE FIRE SO SOON! Let's hope my back & knees hold up. The area where I'm doing it is where I'd can see us squeezing in something kind of like a GH.

Dont have those kind of christmas lights sea..and
Cheese, my wife would kill me if i took a elec. blanket out there :facepalm:
Wonder if thrift shops have those?

.I think Im Prbably just gonna put the heater back out there and Fix the ceiling

Low wattage, my brother. That's why the blanket or lights--LOW WATTAGE. The lights would probably be safer, except for flowering.... damn... forgot about that. Electric blankets are relative cheap and a LOT cheaper to run than lights. Your wife'll get over it, even if you have to buy new. $30 or so @Walmart, IIRC.

I think, as long as I can keep them alive and flowering.. they will be ok after it get warmer out..
(next week is mid 70's!!!!)

You guys have me Talked into it...;)
we used to have Bearded dragon lizards...I think we might still have the little tank heater things that warn the bottom of the tanks...those might work for a potted plant too.
and my wife raised Coakroaches to feed the lizards..I think they had heaters too..o_O
I gotta find that stuff !

Things were going pretty good though, untill I made the mistake of peeling back the ceiling plastic.:facepalm:
It was holding in some heat...and I was planing on pushing back in place each evening..but Im a lazy mo fo...Gotta snap outta that soon for the Light deps that I told myself I wasnt gonna do anymore:confused:

So My Shit is stalled out ...I just hope to get lucky like every other time :wacky:

The heating blankets are are great idea...as long as they dont get the plants too hot


The forecast says night time lows in 40's for the next ten days :)
So dont think I need to heat anymore..although collecting Heat during the warm days that are forecasted would be a good Idea......

I have been thinking of adding these to my beds for Better airaition and drainage

I wonder if I put them on top of the soil(for now) if they would collect and hold heat? o_O

Do ya think its ok to mix those with my soil?

Another great idea Kolah. Your right, hardley any sun comes in those sides
and, since it looks like I am going to need to light dep this whole emmer effin GH
I am going to Black out the North and east walls with a couple layers of 6ml plastic
maybe the North faceing roof too...
That will be that much less to cover every night :rolleyes: and it will keep it a little warmer
That black plastic will warm up good in the sun :)

If you access to rocks on your land just gather some up and set them on top of your soil beds. It looks nice too.

I not only set rocks on top of my soil but I mix pea sized pebbles in with my soil...but up here there are plenty of free rocks..all sizes and shapes. It aerates AND holds thermal mass.

my buddy is using these as a stand alone medium and he has nothing but good things to say about them

Seedling heat mats under each pot are a cheap and easy way to keep your roots from getting too cold and reducing nutrient/water uptake.

I may need to get myself a resale number, because the cheapest seedling mats I've found are in the range of $20-$30 apiece, which is a LOT considering the small footprint.

I did. 100-300W is what a typical electric blanket uses. That's a fraction of a space heater, which are usually in the range of 1200W-1800W.

Nice SM, that's good to know. IMO I'd rather keep the roots warm .....and then some of the heat will rise up to warm the plants.

btw congrats on your moderator job. Did they give you the big hammer or the new-fangled electroshock device?
