I have been fighting with root riot headaches myself since last summer. I have tried everything, dome, no dome; tap water, RO water, regular nute water, sterile with chlorox, or zone, or with bennies.
In the end, the wilt pattern seems to be this: soft stemmed cuts for some reason shrivel up and die first at the bottom (cut part), then that prevents water from being absorbed up the stem to keep it alive.
This never seems to happen with highly woody stiff cuts, only soft gummy stemmed varieties.
I notices that it NEVER happens with any cuts if you fill a keg party cup with coco then put a cut in there and water like a regular plant. Invariably, it will root as long as you dont let it COMPLETELY dry out.
Therefore I began to believe that the hole in the rapid rooter is too tight and in forcing down the fragile stem it is somehow damaged so the tip cannot absorb water.
My solution 2 nights ago was to get a kabob stick/skewer and rout out the hole in the rapid rooter, creating a pocket inside. The actual visible hole is not made bigger on the surface, I just tear up the inside so its
zero force to sink the soft stem tip into the pouch so to speak. 100% of the ones I did like this 48 hours ago are still up.
