What kind of support are you using for your UC?

Hey Amber, in a UC system since it is on the floor you don't need more ceiling, as much as you need more square footage to spread them out. Lose the horizontal reflectors and drop verts. That will give you an extra few feet of vertical canopy.

Then you can add a wire grid ceiling and start dropping yo yos! You can also hang the cages from the ceiling and then you can peek the roots if you need to.

Those plants came out tits, but you could get them a lot bigger still and double your yield I bet with another week or two of veg. If it were me in a horizontal grow (keeping your exising setup) I would find a really strong stemmed upright strain that can almost hold it's own. Then let them grow in to each other, and remove all the lowers. That would give you a big blanket of flowers and increase your yield probably 25-30%. If all the big buds are close to each other they have a tendency to support each other as well. You could even lower your existing cages 6" or so (break out the grinder!) and zip tie a flat 4'x4' wire mesh to the top (horizontal plane), anticipating that the flowers will stretch through that and then you have all the support you would need. It would look like a giant scrog, but with 9 big plants.


I have been thinking about dropping 3 plants from my room so I can get some more space in between. With the right strain, you can easily hit 3lbrs on 5 ft centers.

I would only have 6 plants then, but if I averaged 3/ I wouldn't complain.

I call em good support, but Current Culture calls them module cages. They actually came up with that brilliant name. They sell them for a whopping $18.95 MSRP. I went ahead and forked it out for em because I liked the concept of a perfect fit. I do however have to admit they bear a striking resemblance to the cages I get at home depot for my tomatoes for a bit less.

:writing:OK you for sure have my attention. I like the bye bye horizontals, wire grid ceiling I have actually considered before because I have my whole room lined with 4 inch thick insulfoam on the inside of walls and ceiling so it makes it pretty difficult to put anything on the walls or celing unless you have a real good idea of where the stud is and have a six inch minimum screw. Because of that I have built some rafters and have 2x6 rafters on the room side of the foam so that I can put up lights. It would be super easy for me to tack up some fence which I do believe I have some around here somewhere. I'm not sure that the grinder would be necessary but I am all about the horizontal plane grid idea. That shit is absolutely fabulous I am a long time scroger and all about it. I see now why UCMETOO is going for the short strain. I originally was thinking that the sativa dominant would be the way to go with this system but now I am seeing things in a whole new light. I am all about it and the time is right. What type of total wattage and lighting configuration do you think would work best. I was thinking about maybe mixing in some medal halide blue up in the mix also. Any thoughts on that?

Also Cap 6" lower on the cage. What are you thinking the top trelis height should be 4ft? 4 1/2 maybe? I know the cages are 5ft but I just went out to measure and visualize this and they are actually only 4ft so do you think that is good or still take em down 6". Any thoughts on the strain? I have some Ewok and I hear that they are pretty strong stalked but I have not finished flowering it yet and I like to know what I'm flowering in the UC is gonna make me happy. Although that last run I did not, them purple bitches were not the 1st round drafts they were the substitutes. I scrogged Master Kush for a long good while happily and Bubba kush also. I wonder if I could get those genetics back for the occasion.

Those are pretty cool I was checking out some other thread yesterday on here and they had the same type looking concept only with bamboo stakes looked like just stuck in the soil. Maybe not though. I think it could have been Scotts OG thread but not sure. I wonder if they would work with the UC basket though. I will have to check it out more but I'm totally into them for the dirtier projects or moms even.

They fit perfectly in the CC buckets! I met one of the inventors recently and they are going to be looking for testers soon.

I was just trying to guess based on the picture. That is why I said you would need the hand grinder (with metal cutoff wheel). What is your ceiling height? how tall are the 13xlbuckets?

Buckets are 19" and the ceiling is 8' from the top of the platform the system sits on.

You wanna grow bigger don't ya? ..like way bigger than the cages eh?..I can't see any bulbs..do those get any vert? Can definitely see you buying like a thousand or so yo yo's if ya do.

So great to see you and B killing it. The girls look fiiire!

I just wanted to point out that single ties of any kind are the most expensive and labor intensive means of plant support. From a commercial perspective the goal is to eliminate any breaks in footprint as well as any possible labor. In a few years we will see 10 and 20 acre greenhouses that have no people inside them.

Agreed. Among other reasons, people are the biggest disease vector in the whole place.

Great job, very nice work. I have tried many different ways of keeping the ladies from hitting the floor and found most had some major drawback. What has worked well for me is sheep fencing, it is similar to page wire fencing you see on all the farms. The whole size goes from small to large and gives me room to move them around for great spacing and support. When I harvest I just cut and tip over the cage and grab in the middle and carry out. Hook the plant on the celling and open the cage, all done and no messing around. I set the cages on top of the UC and after 10 days the plants are growing into it and this helps support the cages also. IMHO
