Whew, been running all say since I took the day off yesterday. Taking fresh cuts...into the dome, moving from veg to flower, feeding and giving tea. Gotta run for medium and perlite and go to golden to meet up with a member on here. Haven't even been outside yet, looks hot. Seems like I never get a chance to fish anymore. This chicken shit job don't pay enough.

Road trip over for a visit with Sky high, got some deliveries to make, beautiful drive heading that way, will set cruise control, stop and puff every hhour or so and bring him some farm goodness Fun day ahead...

Was good seein ya. MANY thanks for the bounty of goodness!!

Hey, quick question for cat-people. I have one kitty who really likes to try and nurse from me, anywhere she can. I just keep moving her head away until she stops, but it's become a bit of a ritual. Any suggestions? It's creepy.

one of my cats / kittens is about 1.5 yrs old and still likes to suck on shirts or blankets actually she has finally just seemed to stop but she is very small for her size and i believe it was from being removed from its mother to soon. My other cat is a beast about 30 lbs with a huge body and is afraid of its own shadow the only time he comes out is to eat and at night to roll around the floor - I have the strangest 2 cats in the world

Chill a little today cause tomorrows a big day, will be getting new hens 500 for egg production, got to make room for the new girls on the block...Slept in till 730, got strong ass coffee that will make me run in circles getting this and that done, wife's back is out, must take care of her, naptime around 2pm or so or may hit river for a few casts,,, one thing I do know for sure will be a great day, hope you all enjoy this and everyday....
If I aint farming I should be fishing... wow what a life........Even though we barley make ends meet working our asses off on this small farm, somehow everything always works out....just meant to be....life is good....

I cannot tell you, cm, really how I marvel at your energy level. 500 hens? Tell me you've still got those young folks helping you! Sorry about your wife's back, I did mine a few days ago too, been using my TENS unit for all it's worth!

I've begun letting the hens out to free-range. I have zero roosters, despite my hopes, I'm fairly certain every one is now a laying hen. So, I said, "Fuck it! I let 'em range!" I hope that we don't have too many casualties, but I am expecting to lose a hen or three over time, just hoping that it's not one of the Rhode Island Reds. CM, I know you don't care for this breed, but I am *so* happy I bought this pair. They let you pick them up, they want to be around people, very curious, don't peck hard, and lay an egg each every day. Sure, the Ameracaunas lay pretty blue eggs, but they're mean fucking birds and don't want anything to do with people unless it's to peck you somewhere tender, or to get something to eat from you. It's funny when the kittens start stalking the hens, there's always this Mexican stand-off between them, then the tails twitch as the kitties realize they ain't gettin' any of those juicy chickenbirds. Plus, neither one of the kitties really has the balls.

Today it's much smokier than it's been so far. We've made a dent in the manzanita and Dave's got the chipper hooked up and working pretty well. There is NO WAY I'm going to try and use that thing, I'll hurt myself, I can just tell. But! He did teach me how to use the backhoe and I dug up my first stump! It was fun. :D

Today is more cleaning. Hit two rooms a day and I should have the place done by the end of the week, assuming my fucking back holds out. Fucking back. I hate it, but I need it or I'd be totally spineless.

RI reds are great. Traditional breed. For us we kinda need hens that are feed effeciant, were getting hy breeds that consume half of what RI reds. do have a helper, we must band each hen on leg to ID them as the new girls, green, blue and brown layers. Not Ameracaunas, but a mix of genes for eggs production....Customers demanding lots of eggs thuis tyime of year, some have been discontinued till more production is happening production really suffering due to heat......

what part of the goat do you smoke ? or some how the whole thing ?
never had smoked goat !
i do smoked pork , beef , chicken , turkey and duck .

Got a fella in town who retired from his BBQ rest., I let him know and he come's and smoke's our goats at his rest., that daughter took over.. young milk/grass fed buckling 6 months or so old, usually dress out at 30 to 40 lbs. He know's how to do, must cut up whole goat smoke according to size and piece, he's done thousands back in the day.
Got a guy who comes and kills on farm, can't do it myself and I really have a problem with the kill thing, but it's part of farming at least they lived a good life while here, not much else to do with bucklings...
Not getting rich either, 100 bucks for goat, 50 to kill, got to deliver, feed, lots of work. The smoked goat is awesome.
We once attended a high dollar dinner, 150. per person fancy, wines, local foods. our goat was the main course and folks were squeamish until they tasted and after all that wine, and other 5 courses our goat was the high lite of the feast.
We also milk does daily. 5 tp 10 gallons, guzzle as much as possible, make cheese or freeze . The milk is awesome. Folks tell me goat milk yuk, then they taste ours and say WOW. Had a kid stay on farm, drank a gallon easy daily hes went back home and is in withdrawal.
Better get my ass out there and get to work, see ya.....

$50 to kill a young goat, seriously? I'll do it for you. Can I just shoot 'em, or does it have to be Kosher?

Never shoot an animal IMO. Kosher, slit throat and its over and done quickly every time. Hate it like hell, now a chicken, killed thousands same way, not as bad for me......
Shooting requires a precise shot not always done proper...

We only ever shot the pigs we slaughtered. Can you imagine trying to get a knife through their gullets when it's a 300lb animal? We never missed a shot, either. .45 is what we used.

I've chopped plenty of birds' heads off. It's a lot easier than something as big as a cat, or a goat even.

So I saw on the news last night, the Rim Fire is up to 160,000 acres, and only 20% contained. Wow- puts the fire we had here in perspective at 'only' 88,000 acres.

Run that tractor! The way you describe your land, fire will come sooner or later...

Well i'm planning to get off this computer and get some work done .... broken air cond in a house i just bought so its 87 out and i need to spend like 6-8k for a new one ..... but things could always be worse ..... off to clean the car , cut the grass all while puffing a little grass ....lol...

Again I hope all my farm fam is out of harms way from the fire .... stay safe
be back tonight
blessings SoSer
