So, human grew weeds for thousand years and we have to keep it the same way? Humans evolve, gather new information, new techniques. Why invent LED, we should keep that good old filament bulb... Forget those tractors, use the horses! Stop looking in the past, people were dying from cold before... They still do but well, you understand what I mean. People are trying techniques that comes from different species because that's how human work, he reproduces...

I did the comparison, defoil half of my plants, same grow, same lights, same rdwc, different spot to create an even comparison and 10-15% more yield on the defoil, I didn't go nut on defoil but it worked. Test it out for yourself, and not only 4 plants each side of the lamp, you have to mix things up to get a more scientific approach.

Funny how this debate will never end, worst part is, a lot of people are not even testing it, they just repeat what they believe... As you explicitly wrote...

Here's a pic of my current flowers. No defoil but I do trim out lower LAF at flip thats it. This is organic grown weed, nothing but WATER that's it the whole grow start to finish.

I get consistently 1.3ish gm/watt every grow. The length of flower is 40-50 days with the exception of the big landrace sativa in the right corner but her yields will be significantly larger than 1.3 gm/watt but over much longer time than 40-50 days the hybrids flower for.

All you guys keep banging on me, I'll be doing something other than fucking with my plants. Actually went on vacation for 9 days and left them all on their own. OMG I didn't pull off not even 1 fan leaf and they are fine.
You people that like to fiddle with your plants, defoil is just your excuse to want to futz around in the flower room and its not necessary. Yeah plants been growing for 10s of thousands of years without chemical fertilizers and cal-mag and all that non-sense. Have at it. There are easier ways to grow, a lot easier ways.

Eventually you won't be able to compete due to your high costs and muddling about with the flowers.

My cost for this grow is about $200 dollars for electricity and water. Turn over 8 plants every 40-60 days @ 1.3 gm/watt. Do the math.

Just my opinion worth price paid.

Im not saying dont do it if you like it... Im just pointing out that defoliating is the flat earth of pot growing lol

This ^^^^ I agree 420%

Just because someone defoils and gets a decent crop does that mean that his crop wood be shit if he DIDN'T defoil. Of course it doesn't and that's because the person that started defoil lernt it in stoner science class.

Just sayin.

Which horticulture industry uses defoliation to increase yields??

So you dont care so you just come in and drop "you're not worth it" and now you're out. Very adult of you. What are you 15 years old now?

Pruning and defoliation are NOT the same thing. The OP was talking taking ALL the fan leaves off to increase yields. You should actually READ the thread before you drop in and put your foot in your mouth ffs.

People are 50/50, and even for the defoliation "side", there's a certain degree as how much leaves are removed. As shown on your picture, yeah sure, no need to remove leaves with your actual setup/strain, there's plenty of air flow and light is able to reach barely everything, good for you, so yeah, from YOUR point of view, defoil is useless and a waste of time but when you see water spot because the space is too much crowded and leaves are gangbanging each others, yes, removing leaves is kinda mandatory.

As for which horticulture, even cotton is using this technique, a google search would give you a lot of species that defoil actually helps.

Fuck, that sativa is a giant! :D

Well a huge one was stated already cotton. But there are a great many more. Soybeans, Grains, and one not many people even know tomatoes. This process is a proven fact in many agriculture fields that deal with leafy green foliage. These are only a few.
with your setup a heavy defoliation wouldn’t be needed that’s obvious to anybody who knows plants. As far as dropping in and dipping. I have better things to do than argue on a forum. Ill get to comments when I have time.
Would you care to share your 40 day strain with us? I personally have not come across one yet. Even on strains that say 50 +\-it’s usually 60 or more for a finish I prefer(mostly cloudy a bit amber very few clear) trics. So I should ask if they are mature flowers at 40 days. I know you said 40-50. So I’m assuming with your given info you’ve pulled one before 41 days before.
Either way Mr Brown I really don’t like arguing over a topic someone seems bitterly attached to one side of.

Lol again it's the opinion thing. You are right for your setup. You are just as wrong as everyone you are calling wrong. At the same time you are just as right as everyone saying the opposite.

Aw shit I fucked my grows up. Look at all those leaves on the ground.

Lol I'm hanging with my buddy again tomorrow, I'll have to ask if they've done any R&D on defoliation. I know for a fact they currently prune pretty much exactly how you and I do, but I'm curious to see if they've invested much research into it.

It would be cool to see what he says. I have a feeling I already know the answer.

I only wish that first statement were true.

Everyone has different goals and grows a different way to suit their style. My goals are to produce the highest yield of the best quality in the shortest amount of time without sacrificing any of those things. Electricity costs and gpw are long off secondary concerns for me.

If I don't selectively defoliate with my crowded canopy my yields and quality decline, I get a bunch of nice tops and under developed buds below them. It's just a different growing style, You are letting the plants grow way more naturally than I am at the moment. Neither of us is wrong in how we are doing it. Except your way is wrong for the way I grow, and my way is wrong for you. It's all good.
