Thanks Aqua Man- I try to give back because life has been So great- I’m a lucky guy.

Mahavishnu is getting the pH pen, sorry to the others but I wanted it to go to a regular viewer who contributes to my threads. Mah- there might be an extra present in there so check the box thoroughly.

So, regarding these............

AgroMax Pure UV T5 Bulb – 4 Foot
$27.95

The AgroMax Pure UV T5 provides your garden with a concentrated blast of UV-A and UV-B spectrum light. Indoor plants, by virtue of being grown under artificial light, have little to no exposure to UV in traditional setups. In many plant species, exposure to UV-B light will significantly boost and cause changes in phenolic compounds, flavonoid pigments, resins, oils, etc.
– Fits all 4 ft. High Output T5 Fixtures, F54T5HO Lamp Type
– 75% UV-B, 25% UV-A output
– 1 year warranty

1. How long do the bulbs last?
2. What's their coverage area?
3. At what height are they placed?
4. Is one light fixture recommended over another?
5. Are there other, "safer" options?
5. Anything else should I be asking?

I can maybe provide a little perspective from the reptile world.
Uv output is best from mercury vapour bulbs (but a lot of heat output) Fluorescent t8 or t5 bulbs put off the second highest amount but without the above negatives, then compact fluorescent.

but studies or reptile grade bulbs have show uv from Fluorescents drops off significantly after 12-18 inches. Uv output also drops significantly after 6 months of use (this would be 12-16 hours a day. Finally the age of the bulb matters as older (like years after production unlit bulbs produce less uv then newer bulbs.... some reptile companies even started printing bb dates on them and I believe still do... sorry it’s been a few years since I have kept a species that requires uv)

Yeah I use em for my dragons... some do come with a BB date. After checking some info these 4 footers are pretty dam hefty. If I use 2 at 4 feet I figure they will be about 1.3 times the amount of UV at peak on a clear sunny day. I will be using these at 2 feet. And that will be around 4x that. So at that rate I will prob run them around 5-10min max per hr for about 3 maybe 4 hrs in the middle of the photoperiod.

I'm kind of scared of these bulbs at this point. I'm fair skinned, blond (when I was younger) with blue eyes. I could put these on a digital timer to come on a few minutes 3X a day, but I kind of pop in the room 50X a day to check on temps and humidity, etc., etc. I'd have to be more careful with my room visits.

Bulbs would be around $27 each and high output T5 fixtures range from $32 to almost $50+, so lets say $80 a piece, not including shipping which could be another $30-$40. Average $120 each I guess, so $240 total for my room. For 28% more resin, it's something to consider if that's true.

Lastly, under these bulbs- resin is produced as a defense mechanism against the UV-B, this probably adds stress to the plant and could bring on some late term hermies or other health issues I'm guessing.

Tomorrow I'll start searching out documented grows diaries with these, and maybe post a few links to the better (or worse) ones.

Yeah I can see the possibility of a stress induced herm. I'm gonna start low and work up. I'm sure its gonna take me a couple runs to dial in as I will only be using it for 2-3weeks.

If anyone knows of somewhere that sells the bulb and fixture together, post it please............might as well make it easy to order.
I think HTG supply is the distributor. I dont believe anyone else sells a fixture. That really does kinda suck and they don't ship to Canada so @AnselAdams was kind enough to ship wm up here for me.

Guys if you are going to take up the UVA/UVB bulbs ditch the t5's and start looking at the t12's. I have some POS T5 in my veg, it only has like 5 of the UVA/UVB leds onboard. I hit up the sales rep at the hydro store that turned it on to me and he was like that is not going to do much. He goes on to tell me he was working in a grow with T12 bulbs and got his scalp so sunburned in like 45 minutes he thought he was going to loose his hair.

? I'm not sure what ya mean? T5 don't have diodes... T5's are far more efficient and put out more light per watt than t12's.

Are you talking about the led tubes? Those are not t5 florescent but will fit a t5 fixture.

45 min exposure to the aggromax... idk I think your likely to mutate yourself lol
