Completely agree. Cost analysis-wise, it's kinda silly to get the latest, greatest.
There's plenty to work with in old gen stuff with a little tweaking of technique.

Such as NOT growing giant bushes in an aero system... 🤦‍♂️

Led gardener is pretty great resource you said? They have the diy diagrams and reviews?

Viparspectra is still running 40% off all pieces. If you are on the fence, this is ending soon.

I got excited for a new veg lamp for my 3x3.

Just looked. Its “up to 40%”

the good ones are 10% off. The green ones mostly 15% off. Etc.

This is the email I got -
Black Friday week 40%off with code VIP40.
  • Click the main picture to our website.
  • Type in the code VIP40 to get a 40%off discount when purchasing.

"Up to".... I hate the bait and switch, but worth a shot.

For sure.
Here's the blog post with a bunch of different configurations and a good overview, etc. Good info in the comments, too.

Then there's the forums with lots of other user-submitted builds and a few great dudes who can guide you really well.
Strips, COBs, QBs... basically everything you need to know there.

Not in Canada
And the VIP40 thing is for the xs or p4000, you only get 15% off the 1500 and 20% off the 2000

I just looked at their instagram and they reduce the price of the xs and p1500 u=in the us but not in Canada

Most of the new budget lamps use 3000 or 3500k diodes and 5000k. They say its for a “sunlight” spectrum but i think the 5k diodes are just cheaper
Thought you might be interested in this...

I was. Enough to go and buy some of those 4000K ones at 1AM. And flub my order. And then pepper in some of that 5000K to complete my order.
The measures on the red wavelengths for those high-mid CCTs are unlike what I've seen before. Admittedly, haven't looked too much.
Figure I'll just pepper in some far red if they happen to not suffice... but I have a hunch...

"Cost analys.. .blah. blah.b l.ah. Blah!" - some stupid smiling whale.

Anyway. I'll be testing them soon enough... I'm sure you'll see what I have to report.

I have been watching grows and builds since the beginning. I even stuck with the hlg and timber thread on riu from when they worked together on new tech.

What i see with led’s in general was way too leafy flowers even with 3k cobs and boards. But a good 2700-3k spectrum with the red and ir seems to improve the flowers bud/calyx ratio.

Same problem with my 315 cmh when run alone. Run with hps alongside much better results imo

other that that and the lower heat for my cold room and higher temps needed for growing they sure grow a lot more flowers per watt than my se hps.

Makes sense, for sure.

I'm just figuring and hoping with the even spectral range on these, I might see something a little more akin to what 2700/3000Ks produce while also achieving that squat structure from the blue end. And maybe the added penetration from the green... which is also nice and high on these.
IR's certainly a monkey on my back... would have done that first, but I want to fill out my footprint a little more first... only using 1/4 of my space right now.

Anyway, just an offbeat 5000K from what I've seen. Thought it was a neat little addendum here.

seems even higher k’s grow squat plants with led. Like t-5 flourescents the “white” light is actually a blue phosphor.

This is some pretty shitty testing but according to this, at 12 inches with the 135w hlg it is 1400 ppfd in the center and only around 350 in the corners which really isn't too good.

Any fixture with that design is going to perform in a similar manner. That is why you will see strip style lights. They have a better spread.

This can't be right. no way that tiny thing is 275 ppf. It's $70 so if that is right then i'm getting it but I am extremely skeptical.

hey don't overthink too much.
just remember the power of white led is power per dollar and high eficiency about 80%
then of pure blue red leds they are most times way more expensive to buy but use light 10% more efficiently.
so if you go budget go for 50% very cold white and 50% ov very warm white high power cob + 10% extra in 700-740nm range for Emerson effect and own timer for photo periodic manipulation keeping far red 30min after "sunset down" running and leave short day plants sleep faster and utilize like 14h of light and 10h of sleep while the plants circadian rhythm is boosted and it flowers like in 12h darkness.
and if you go for preflower and flower get a UVB +UVA lamp to enrich resinglands
THC is basicly some very interesting plant sunscreen and anti dry out moisturizing cream😁
expect some reaction of the plant UVR8 response.
bleaching of close leafes - -plant concentrates on flower sites for highest survival chances and drives up melanin and other things up.
my hindu Kush turned all deep purple then black leafes after light intensity upgrade.
PS don't overdo it, I am just curious how good Durban poison can handle radiation and so far and it's whoa.
cannabis really loves that power sun.
happy growing friends and just know you buy good product to price and you won't be disappointed.
or diy, do we have some diy electrical stuff on Here?
