wtf are those spike things lol
wtf are those spike things lol
I swing more than that in summer….I figured, that whole, don’t swing temp more than 10° is probably BS because we can grow outdoors here in San Diego and temp swings are way more than 10° so…my only concern is high temps because I think it makes fluffier flowers, but then I’ve had my tent go to 93° one grow…no AC, I only run a dehumidifier for flower and sometimes a humidifier during veg.I will want to as well. Since I still don’t really know what I’m doing, and still getting a hold of what the conditions are in the house and tent, I can hold out. I wouldn’t know what I’m controlling. Haha. I am getting it down though. It’s winter in NY and I’m not going to get ideal temps inside the tent as I may in another climate. The room it’s in only gets so warm. I’m not putting a heater in the tent, but do have a small one running in the room just to keep a moderate temp. I’m within 10° lights up and down, so I think I’m ok. If my thinking and knowledge so far is correct, I’ll just have a bit slower growth and longer veg. (I think) haha. Soon, I’ll know.
I hope everyone had a great weekend. I am days behind my own set schedule, but have been told I should hold off a bit on transplant so I’m not overly worried. They’re going sooner than some think, but they got a few extra days. I was up again until 4 watching build a soil episodes, just fast forwarding to all the earth box stuff. I’ve seen them all, but am glad I decided to do it. Feeling good this morning as I get ready to start 4 (last one should be here tomorrow).I swing more than that in summer….I figured, that whole, don’t swing temp more than 10° is probably BS because we can grow outdoors here in San Diego and temp swings are way more than 10° so…my only concern is high temps because I think it makes fluffier flowers, but then I’ve had my tent go to 93° one grow…no AC, I only run a dehumidifier for flower and sometimes a humidifier during veg.
I just got an earth box junior for Christmas it holds 7 gallons of soil so I should be alright for one Plant. So you’re starting 4 more eartboxes? I can’t believe you got 2 in one box!!! They seem to be doing the job I’m excited to see how this plays out! I just got her in but barely! I had to tilt her to get most of the root ball inside. Is this your first experience with earhboxes? I watch Jeremy on buildasoil every week. He is the best at explaining so I can easily understand. Good luckI am not sure if it’s “advised” but I pulled the tallest tops over and some of the bungee is on the flower…guess I’ll find out.
Jumping in to say nice job. I am starting 4 boxes now (behind schedule but I’m ok, I am a bit worried about the transplant because of where they’re coming from. I never wanted them in them but here we are hoping for the best. I have one more that’s coming but is late. I actually up here now starting them. Now that I am up here, and realizing the true size. I don’t know if it’s going to work. I can’t put it on the exact bottom, on the tray!! Ugh! I just blazed a joint brotha I’m not following so you have some separate potted plants that need transplanting? Where did they come from? I’ve been on your thread before but don’t remember exactly.Jumping in to say nice job. I need them out of these pots though. So, I’m moving forward. If I lose them, I lose them and start again. Wish me luck!
I rewatched a bunch of episodes last night and just FF to the parts on the boxes. In a regular sized earth box he used one of their bags, which is 30Qt so 7.5gals. He did keep saying 8-10 throughout other vids but when he loaded it, he used one bag. My soil is a different mix and company, it’s in 60qt bags. I just planned on using half in each but may need more now because of this transplant thing. I really don’t know enough. I’m just dangerous.
I don’t want to hijack here but yea, they’re in 3gals. I THINK I know what I can do but probably shouldn’t be messing with it. I also think I saw it on a build a soil episode. I can knock out some of the soil, and lay it in there. Of course leaving a bunch of it intact. I also know it can come above the soil bed a little, but not over the pot. I’m just too new and inexperienced. Flying by the seat of my pants but holding up. Thanks to this forum.I just blazed a joint brotha I’m not following so you have some separate potted plants that need transplanting? Where did they come from? Ohhh alright I see now. Ya the pot mine was in was bigger than what the earth box cold handle so I tilted her in and then filled in the soil. Yes you could absolutely knock off the soil and then plant. I was able to make it work and plus I’m laying down a scrog net. You got this man if you have any other questions fire away! Use some mycorrhiza fungi i the roots if possible too.I don’t want to hijack here but yea, they’re in 3gals. I THINK I know what I can do but probably shouldn’t be messing with it. I got worms at garden stores here. First batch was about 30 but not red wiggglers. European night crawlers and then i found a bag at our smaller nursery in the counter, red wigglers. I forget how many but probably too many. My soil is rich and there’s worms jumping ship all the time committing suicide. I heard you only need 20 or 30 per box. I probably have 200. Could get too nitrogen rich with too many worms…or they just Jill themselves to a colony size they can deal with, I don’t know much unless you want to catch fish with them. Trust me one plant per box…roots fill the bottom and your water capacity goes down to where you have to water everyday or buy the auto water system if you can make that work (need hose Bibb). As for transplanting, you dig a hole and put them in. These boxes are shallow, so I made sure to leave a little soil at the bottom and not plant them on top of the plastic grate. Mound up over the edges, not too high first because you want one more top dress full of good PK and food for the worms. I grew a cover crop and always grow one between grows to keep things alive.I hope everyone had a great weekend. Are you using red wigglers? Are they the same I can get at like a bait shop? Even a Stewart’s store? Haha. I see I can order some but it’s winter here and I’ve read some stories of bad experiences. I can ship to store at Home Depot which maybe would avoid that but it’s still winter out . And, how many in a box? I was falling asleep. I think he says later on and I’ll go back but, I do have a top dress on, and some of their stuff to give them as food. Can they go right in? The soil has food for them now, and we (I’ll) add more?
Thanks for any advice. Jeremy talked about 2 plants in a box but I’m going to go by your experience especially since I have none with the plants, or soil. Maybe when I get it down, in a year or two, I’ll experiment. Watching the vids again, I realize I may still eventually end up in bigger pots. Just not with the tent up the flight of stairs. Who needs a dresser?
Edit on the worms. The smallest I can order is 100. I’m not using 20 in a brand new box, right? I mean, right? Hah
2nd edit. I still haven’t started. It’s a self trust issue I think. I’m so weird.
Thats big, you need to get plants into these boxes from seed to maybe 4” pots max…ideally.I don’t want to hijack here but yea, they’re in 3gals. Just my opinion but JR’s are too small…I just got an earth box junior for Christmas it holds 7 gallons of soil so I should be alright for one Plant. So you’re starting 4 more eartboxes? I’ve been doing living soil for almost a year now and I’m slowly moving up in pot size each time it seems. I may upgrade for the bigger version next. 7 gallons of soil is pretty good tho how much does the bigger one hold?Just my opinion but JR’s are too small…
I used one of his bags and there’s room for my special top dress made with local organic compost, castings, frass, gnarly barley, gro-kashi, craft blend, build a bloom….haha.Jumping in to say nice job. oh yea, for living soil youll want bigger pot size in general, microbial activity gets boomin, and obv bigger root mass.I’ve been doing living soil for almost a year now and I’m slowly moving up in pot size each time it seems. Yea, I never wanted them in it. Was never the plan. It just unfolded that way. Maybe it’s just best for me to cut my losses and flip in these and just power through it with top dressing and overloading it. I don’t know!! haha. I think I’m going to try to knock some of it out. There are some who think I’m coming out of them too soon. Maybe that’s going to be to my advantage and it will fall awayThats big, you need to get plants into these boxes from seed to maybe 4” pots max…ideally.
Here are the differences. Bigger pots bigger plants…and the watering will become and issue when mine went from 3 gallons to taking only a gallon in the middle of flower…where will that leave your water volume if you start with a gallon volume only? That’s long periods of dry res…not ideal at all.I’ve been doing living soil for almost a year now and I’m slowly moving up in pot size each time it seems. Plants are hearty, I transplanted one that was really dry and all the soil fell off, roots broke, and it turned out fine still, maybe dig out a big trench and lay it longways then turn it to level and backfill…Yea, I never wanted them in it. Transplant earlier and you are good to go. Yeah, two in one box, topped once, and the entire 4x4 tent is squished full…yes, my first grow after watching Jeremy grow in them, I had a small fungus gnat thing in fox farms soil in fabric pots last grow, so I figured these pots with plastic over the soil would probably eliminate those type of soil pests, right? They sounded so low maintenance, just for that reason alone. It even said to use plain water, so I was like, “Wow, these sound super easy”. I will NEVER do 2 in one box again though.I just got an earth box junior for Christmas it holds 7 gallons of soil so I should be alright for one Plant. So you’re starting 4 more eartboxes? Thank you!! I’m just at the point where I’m willing to just risk it. I didn’t think I could germ a seed. They were soaking in water and I was still texting a stranger 100 miles away for clones. They popped, I knew the soil I wanted to use, and had the larger containers. Haha. It still changed a bunch but I’m here. 8 weeks and a day later.Pla
